I'd say it was about average
by Meli331
I've been to the spa once, and it was your typical spa nothing out of this world unfortunately not enough to keep me coming back. Customers should definitely do some shopping around before investing their money on Area. A great website to do this is at thespaproject. I've used the site a countless number of times for a variety of events from my personal use, to mother's day gifts, and I even used it to organize a getaway for my sister's bridal party. The website is very useful for all types of spa lovers. It offers a range of spas that meet all relaxation needs.

SO AMAZING. Got the hot stone massage, which was by far the best deal I've seen on one in the city at $85/hour. It was unbelievably good, atmosphere was great. Definitely the best massage I've had in NYC. Evening hours are great too for an after-work massage.
wow...what a treat

I absolutely had the best deep tissue massage from Area Spa. The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable. The massage therapist was very friendly and knew exactly what to do. Every penny was worth it!

The Scene
You don't have to be a holistic enthusiast to unwind at this homey four-room spa nestled in a quaint brownstone. Everyone will appreciate Dr. Hauschka skin- and body-care treatments, performed using his signature techniques and organic products. At the upper-level yoga studio, ashtanga, jivamukti and vinyasa classes are offered. At the spa's shop down the street, buy herbal teas, homeopathic remedies, supplements, Weleda organic skin care, and Dr. Hauschka's line.
The Services
Book a soothing Rhythmical body treatment to renew balance, detoxify the immune and digestive systems, and strengthen hormone and metabolism functions. Or try a two-hour holistic facial, including full-body stretching. You'll start with a sage foot soak to get you out of stress mode and ready for relaxation. Mud and seaweed body treatments are on the menu, as well as 10 types of massage (including back walking), reflexology, waxing and nail services.

The Best Massage I Have Ever Had
by misscookiefleck
I treated myself to a last minute birthday massage by calling AREA at around 3pm in the middle of a snowstorm. They didn't have any appointments available, but he said he would try to get me a therapist to come in just for me.
Robert, the massage therapist, was friendly, kind, intuitive and most importantly the best massage therapist I have ever had the pleasure of having worked on me. And I've had TONS of massages in chi-chi spas around the country--nothing beats the casual, friendly vibe of AREA and the service was top notch. Not only that the accomodation of my last minute appointment is virtually unheard of in the spa industry. A MUST for anyone in need of relaxation--ask for Robert, he is THE BEST!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Free Yoga Class, Professional Staff
Warm and Welcoming Experience
by m1khaela
I went for a massage and had a wonderful experience. All massages at Area start with an aromatherapy foot soak and a conversation with the massage therapist about how you're feeling an what you're looking for in the massage. The massage therapist was really friendly and understanding and put me at ease, and was skilled with various kinds of massage techniques both Eastern and Western. The decor and music was soothing, the staff were friendly. In short, highly recommended.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere/decor, Friendly staff, Excellent massage
- Cons: Pricey
Down to Earth
by mrattien
There is no stuffiness at this neighborhood feeling spa. It is alway a welcoming place to go and unwind. I have had a number of massages from different therapists, but they have all been enjoyable.
- Pros: Comfortable, Friendly
