new years day dinner disaster
1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

I have lived in Cobble Hill for 12 years and have had many nice dinners at Patois in the past. Unfortunately, we went there for a birthday dinner on New Years Day '08 - was able to make a booking for 8PM that night for 5 people. We arrived at 8 and were made to wait 20 minutes to a table that was empty of people but filled with dishes. Since there was only one server, who was also the bus boy, it was a bit slow. Once seated we placed our drink order and waited another 20 minutes for it to come. The waiter finally arrived for our order -one of us ordered from the regular menu and 4 of us ordered from the Prix Fix. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the starter except the salad - which when it came was a plate of lettuce with no extras - not even a nice dressing on it. Plain lettuce on a plate. This should have been a warning sign. BTW the salad took another 30 minutes to come and then another 30 minutes for it to be cleared by the bus boy/waiter who could be bothered at this point to put on a smile and not heave with a huge sigh at a request for another soda (please). We were tyring to be as pleasant as possible and not cause any trouble. Our mains were served to much dissapointment - (they had sold out of the chicken so we chose between steak, salmon, or pork) dry salmon and pork loin with very little sauce and flavor. The person who ordered from the main menu entre was fine. The deserts that came were mediocre - which they had also sod out of so our choice was 2 choc tart or 2 lemon tart - that was all that was left. Even the creme brule that was from the main menu was sub par. The bill came to close to $200 for the worst service and food that I have had in our neighborhood. It was as if the Chef and the staff had lost their pride in their business and cooking. I was embarrassed to have brought guest there after raving how good it was. With Grocery and Chestnut a few blocks away, Patois will not see my business again.

Pros: Warm with the fire place - nice lighting

Cons: Poor wait staff, food was not good at all
