Patois has moved

There's a sign in the old Smith St. location saying they've moved to Manhattan at 177 Mulberry St., New York, NY 10013.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED!!!
by raboulafia at Citysearch
I went on 2/13/09 and it was closed as of then. This was a big surprise, since I was actually looking forward to going there. I think they may re-open somewhere in that area. Luckily there was another really good French Restaurant on the same block called Provence en Boite.
Great service, great food...

We went to this restaurant after we were dismissed at Lucali's Pizza, as per one pedestrian reccomendation. And thank you very much, Mr. Pedestrian, because the restaurant is really great. From the first Hi, through the wines, appettizers, entrees, desserts... and a very helpful and kind service. 5 stars
- Pros: From A to Z, fine
- Cons: Invite to find one

Terrible Service
by mimishim at Citysearch
This was my second time eating here, and the first time was a very pleasant experience, so I decided to bring more friends to join me for brunch. However, the second time will be the last time I ever go to this restaurant. The waiter was so rude to us, and trying to get refills on water and coffee was like pulling teeth. The tables were reasonably full, but not too hectic. I would have been happy with a "I apologize for the delay, will be with you shortly," if in fact he was too busy. Instead, I received terribly rude service and attitude from the waiter.
- Pros: quaint environment
- Cons: rude staff
Delicious French Toast
by john11209 at Citysearch
The French Toast was just wonderful. I've never had anything like it. Steak and Eggs were cooked just right. Coffee was excellent. They don''t have half and half but the waitress brought us cream and we made our own with milk and cream. Service was prompt, friendly and courteous. This was our first visit to the restaurant and we'll definitely be returning. We arrived early for brunch, about 10:50 a.m. before the restaurant opened and by 11:30 they were completely full with even more people waiting outside. That's got to tell you something about the restaurant. All in all a very nice experience. John and Janet.
- Pros: Great Food, good service
- Cons: Looks to get crowded for brunch so arrive early
Bad service, decent brunch
by MinBrooklyn at Citysearch
Good brunch deal, with unlimited mimosas and coffee--but don't order tea. When I asked for it, the waiter didn't even reply, just went about his business. When I asked him again, he sourly replied that he was getting it. He also failed to mention that while coffee and alcohol was unlimited, a tea bag and some hot water was three dollars. Ridiculous. The waiter was surly and took about ten minutes to ask for our order and longer to give us our check. No one asked how our food was or if we needed anything else. The brunch itself was tasty, fluffy eggs and fresh ingredients, though the home fries could have been crunchier and better seasoned. The unlimited bread basket was delicious. But the lack of quality service may prevent me from going again.
Great brunch, mediocre service
by maddawg995 at Citysearch
My wife and I had brunch here last weekend and we both enjoyed it. The food was simply amazing and unlimited mimosas to boot (as well as other beverages). She had the Croque Madame which I found to be a little bit salty but she liked very much. I had the scrambled egg w/ chives and potato pancake but they ran out of the pancake and had to substitute with home fries. I didn't care much for either potato sides but the home fries were very tasty. The star was the eggs. It was perfectly seasoned and was light and fluffy. Definitely one of the best egg dishes I've ever had. It also came with two slices of smoked salmon which were the decent run of the mill supermarket type.
Now for the service which we both found lacking. We had to ask for coffee and mimosa refills twice on two separate occasions and still had to wait about 10 min before we go it. That's just unacceptable. I noticed other tables grumbling about the slowness as well.
We sat in the outdoor patio which was nice but needs a little work. The tables and chairs felt very cheap and flimsy. I understand the need for plastic furniture but perhaps getting the sturdier Rubbermaid like ones will work better. Also, since it was getting warm, there were some mosquitoes flying around. In fact, one of them flew into my coffee. I didn't mind that too much since I was working on my third mimosa.
- Pros: brunch, unlimited mimosas
- Cons: slow service, mosquitoes
Best French Bistro in Brooklyn

Patois never dissapoints with its food or its service. At this point I have tried everything on the menu and enjoyed everything, even some things that I never thought I would (the snails were exquisite). My favorites are the Duck Confit, Steak Frites, and the beet salad.
- Pros: Excellent Food in a romantic setting.
- Cons: Garden Seating is taken quickly during warmer periods.
new years day dinner disaster
by bumbleb73 at Citysearch
I have lived in Cobble Hill for 12 years and have had many nice dinners at Patois in the past. Unfortunately, we went there for a birthday dinner on New Years Day '08 - was able to make a booking for 8PM that night for 5 people.
We arrived at 8 and were made to wait 20 minutes to a table that was empty of people but filled with dishes. Since there was only one server, who was also the bus boy, it was a bit slow. Once seated we placed our drink order and waited another 20 minutes for it to come. The waiter finally arrived for our order -one of us ordered from the regular menu and 4 of us ordered from the Prix Fix.
Unfortunately, they were sold out of the starter except the salad - which when it came was a plate of lettuce with no extras - not even a nice dressing on it. Plain lettuce on a plate. This should have been a warning sign. BTW the salad took another 30 minutes to come and then another 30 minutes for it to be cleared by the bus boy/waiter who could be bothered at this point to put on a smile and not heave with a huge sigh at a request for another soda (please). We were tyring to be as pleasant as possible and not cause any trouble. Our mains were served to much dissapointment - (they had sold out of the chicken so we chose between steak, salmon, or pork) dry salmon and pork loin with very little sauce and flavor. The person who ordered from the main menu entre was fine. The deserts that came were mediocre - which they had also sod out of so our choice was 2 choc tart or 2 lemon tart - that was all that was left. Even the creme brule that was from the main menu was sub par.
The bill came to close to $200 for the worst service and food that I have had in our neighborhood. It was as if the Chef and the staff had lost their pride in their business and cooking. I was embarrassed to have brought guest there after raving how good it was. With Grocery and Chestnut a few blocks away, Patois will not see my business again.
- Pros: Warm with the fire place - nice lighting
- Cons: Poor wait staff, food was not good at all
