Super Duper Transformation.

by akarusso

Congratulations Nick and Frank, for taking a greasy spoon and making it into a silver spoon.

These guys renovated and transformed this place into a great eatery.

Clean and I MEAN CLEAN!!! The food is very fresh, very well prepared. We finallyhave a great place to eat normal food. There even open late until 11pm and free delivery.

newownership

I was walking around the cobblehill area and decided to pop in for lunch one weekend. I saw alot of interesting changes a new owner who said to me he took over 2 months ago. While i was ordering i noticed that the service was quicker and i was able to eat and pay my bill without delay. It seems like the older staff is not there anymore which doesnt surprise me because they were very lazy and did not pay attention to the customers and took too long to get a table because they werent cleared must be very incompetant management and very useless. The new people are much better by far and hope they will keep the store open for many years to come and the food is better then what it was. Good luck Nick I know you can do it!

  • Pros: much better then the older staff and management

it felt like i recovered from the flu

by fashiond30

Two weeks ago i went to DonutHouse to eat lunch with a friend, took into account that a few of the workers there especially the guy who works in the kitchen who shaped like an elephant smelled like he hadnt showered in days and also had his pants falling down alot. the service is still slow, new manager i noticed is there hopefully he will fix things because it is a well made store and needs the right people to run it. Iam glad that young kid isnt there anymore because we wanted to sit at a certain table and he appeared like he didnt want to get up off the counter and wipe it down not that it matters much but we wanted to sit in the back not the front. He also took too long to get us the check if the new manager fired this guy then he must be a smart boss because he was lazy for a kid.

New ownership

by brooklynted

I had been to this place in the past. Not the best place before. My freind was visiting from out of town, and he wanted a quick breakfast. I advised him not to go the donut house, but we went any way. I don't normaly write reviews, but i had to for this place. I work in the meat packing district in Manhattan. There was a place on the corner of 14th street and Ninth ave, called Nicks City Diner. This place was great, 24 hours a day clean and well priced good food.

Unfortunalty they lost there lease in 2004. When I walked into the Donut House last week, I saw the owner of Nicks City Diner. I asked him what are you doing here, He said I just bought the place 3 weeks ago.

I have to say immedialty this became my favorite spot, just like his previous place. Food was 100 times better and service was great. He did advise me the place is closing for a renovation at the end of the month.

If he works the Donut House as well as he ran Nicks City Diner , we will all be lucky to have a great food joint in our town.

  • Pros: New Owners. Better food, Great prices
  • Cons: So far none with new owner

not a weekend place

by goodappetite32

DonutHouse unfortunately is not a place for the weekends. The waiting staff wasnt paying attention when you were trying to explain that the burger was overly done and felt a little pain in my stomach. I dont know who works in the kitchen but it smelled pretty bad when i was coming out of the mens room. The guy must really smell like yesterdays garbage himself. to be fair it was a well built store they just need a change in staff its really sad that people like that still work there.

  • Pros: the store looks well built
  • Cons: the people who work there dont seem to know how to work the place

Its like a restaurant breakdown

by RestaurantExpert3245789

I was eating a late lunch and it felt like the day my car broke down. It took over an hour by the time I ate and recieved the check. The tables didnt get cleared quick enough, by the time I sat and the order came through it took a while because the cook and the waiter had something going on. The service is really slow it felt like nobody wanted to work there. I finally got the check after twenty minutes when the guy was through with his smoke break. Sorry to say not my kind of place to be

Swimming in Grease

by spamwax

I usually like greasy spoons but this place was just greasy and nasty. Plus there was some weird conflict going on between the waiter and the short order cook. They were yelling at each other whenever an order was to be picked up etc... Stay away!

  • Pros: Four walls
  • Cons: Food bad, service bad, sticky floor
