The Famous Nathans since 1869 I think...............
by magicloop2009
There is very little indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating, butr being outdoors in the winter could be a hassle. Once I got into the fight with one of the ladies who took my order. She told me my ten dollar bill I was trying to break for my meal was fake. the manager agreed. The shrimp breakfasts, fries, burgers, hot dogs, corn, and sada's are great along with the beers. There is an umbrella by the outdoor seating area
There are also bathrooms with a long line. They can be quite filthy with tiolet paper thrown on the floor. It does smell. This is the orgional nathans, and I live kinda close to here. Right near astroland. This particular Nathans is combined with anotehr fast food chain I fogot which one though, but I do think Nathans will make more money just by going solo.
- Pros: Lots of seating, very close to the beach, umbrellas at seats
- Cons: Very long lines, long wait, filthy restrooms
Best hot dog in NYC
by BigCity73
Get your hot dog with peppers & onions and definitely order the fries. A small size soda is enough to quench your thirst, a medium will drown you.
Hot dogs synonymous with Coney Island summers can be found in several communities across the country.

In Short
In 1916, Nathan Handwerker, a young Polish immigrant, borrowed $300 from friends Jimmy Durante and Eddie Cantor to open a hot dog stand on booming Coney Island. Using his fiacee's recipe, he sold these soon-to-be-famous dogs for only a nickel. Eventually, these restaurants spread to Yonkers and more points west, now showing up in malls, airports and neighborhoods throughout the U.S. The menu has expanded, too, and includes hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and French fries.
Nathan's is as good as ever

I've been going to Nathan's for over 50 years. The natural casing dogs are the absolute best for taste and quality. The fries (you can't get them anywhere else) are the best tasting. At the Coney Island location, you can get a BBQ sandwich which comes with onions and relish (pardon me if I'm drooling) This place is an experience. Follow the crowd which has been there forever...you will not be disatisfied!!!
- Pros: always fresh and clean
- Cons: some long waits
Not As Good As Gray's Papaya
by huskyduck
Nathan's dogs are good but like any business that gets too large, quality starts to suffer. Having a Nathan's dog while strolling Coney Island will always be a quintessential New York experience but the truth is the best hot dogs are in Manhattan at either Gray's or Papaya King. You get much more for your buck at Gray's or Papaya King as well. Nathan's now also serves fish and chips, fried chicken and even burgers. The Coney Island location is essentially 3 restaurants in one now. Service is of a fast food quality but tolerable. If you want kraut or onions, you have to request it upon ordering.
- Pros: Good Hot Dogs; Can't beat the location
- Cons: Doing more than hot dogs has hurt the hot dogs
Great Coney Island hot dog
by GRGeep
After all these years, I finally included a trip to Coney Island in my visit to New York City. It's nice to see it trying to come back. Everyone should get a Nathan's famous hot dog at the original location at Surf & Stillwell. It's a piece of history and a very good hot dog!
- Pros: great hot dogs
The Best

You can't say anything bad about Nathan's in Coney Island!!! Everyone must go once in there lives, its a BK landmarc, and the hot dogs are the best!
- Pros: Hot Dogs, Coney Isalnd
one word... yuck
by newyorkspark
I ordered the Chicken Caeser Salad which came with a gnat in the lettuce and a few croutons. I also bought a water which came out of the fridge warm... mind you this was on a weekday before the lunch rush. I would stick to a hotdog or eat before you go to the boardwalk.
- Pros: location
- Cons: chicken caeser salad
Simple the BEST
by aphrodite84
I grew up in Coney Island. I haven't had a Nathans hot dog in almost 6 years now. Just the thought of them makes me salivate. The crispy skin, the juicy bite, the smoldering fries. It's the best, the original, and the only place anyone should go for a great dog and fries. Nathans makes Coney Island.
- Pros: food, atmosphere, food
go to the original down the street

to have a hot dog in ny is a tradition. to have one at coney island, where the hot dog was invented, is the ultimate. for some reason the original location on stillwell and neptune isnt listed on city search. go the extra couple of blocks and get your hot dog, fries and lemon aid there! we went a week ago, off season, the place was empty and you can get a seat outside which was awesome.
