Disappointment
by livegreen
Sadly the service has been declining for a long while. I hung in there out of loyalty and convenience but this last haircut was really bad and the attiude that accompanied it was not appreciated. Simply put, they don't value their customers.
Was a long time customer...no longer. I am taking my business elsewhere.
- Cons: don't value customers, shoddy work
THE BEST I cannot believe the bad things people are saying

THE BEST
I cannot believe the bad things people are saying about Salon Gio. If you have never been there before give it a chance you won't regret it. The staff is very friendly and aim to please. You will love both the busy energy of the salon and the tranquility that the spa upstairs offers. As far as whoever wrote that they've been going for five years and never liked it. Who in their right mind spends their money for services they dont like for five years?
I disagree!
by CSMobileUser2
I totally disagree with any of these reviews,,,,You can't believe everything you read or hear, I believe only hateful jealous people would write such a thing,,,,,I've known them for 10 years , they couldn't be more friendlier, eager to please people. They're honest and don't perform services just to make money!
Don't get your hair blown out here!
by Saavy
Unless you can handle the smell of burning hair, a red scalp, and painful burns, don't get your hair blown out here! I have been a loyal customer for 5years and have spent thousands of dollars getting my hair cut and colored by the Master Colorist and Master Stylist - and they do a fantastic job, every time. However, when it comes time for a blowout by one of the other stylists, it's sloppy, rushed, ROUGH, painful and careless. I have had my hair blown out by all of them, hoping to find one who actually wants to do it right, and each time is the same result. They could care less about blowing my hair out if they aren't the one cutting it - they even complained and groaned about how long my hair is - TOO BAD! I will continue to get my hair done here, but I will walk out of there with a soaking wet head every time rather than have one of those girls touch my hair.
- Pros: The Master Stylist/Colorist are great
- Cons: Everyone else is awfull
High end salon prices - supercuts quality
by Frenchkick
I don't know what happened to this salon. My initial visit was wonderful - friendly service and a beautiful haircut. That was way back when they had a smaller location on 11th avenue. Subsequent visits have proven to decline a little more each time, down to the point where I actually hate the cut. It seems the stylists can't embrace the concept of "EVENLY distributed layers". Instead they always seem to opt for that lovely helmet-hair mullet-y look that looks good on NO ONE. It used to be a great place, I just think that the stylists need to brush up on their skills. No matter, I'm done with that place.
- Pros: Lovely looking salon
- Cons: Overpriced, underskilled stylists, unsatisfying results.
Over rated
by grace02
Reviews can't be trusted as many are written by the salon, family and friends.
That said, I've gone to other salons based on rave reviews only to be disappointed by the usual. Salon Gio is no different. It's fine. No better or worse than anywhere else. The spa is over rated.
- Cons: spa
Great spa!
by Spaaddict212
I had a facial and a massage here and I really enjoyed it. I had a massage with Mary lou and it was excellent, just the right amount of pressure, she def. customized the massage to my liking. I also had a collagen facial with Amelia who was also excellent, she didnt pressure me to buy products although she did have suggestions and you can tell she truly cares, my skin felt amazing and most importantly to me, her extractions are very gentle and I didnt walk out red. Other places I have been to I always walk out very red and irritated. The spa is like a different world from the salon. I have never gotton my hair done but will def be back to do so. I will def be back
- Pros: Atmosphere, staff, the massage and facial were excellent!
- Cons: That place would be perfect if it had a steam shower or a suana something like that
Thought I was being punked.
by chachamama
I'm pretty easy to please but my last cut and style with them was absolutely horrible by anyone's standards. To add insult to injury, the owner, clearly knowing he had created a mess, was trying to tell me it looked good. HE KNEW it didn't look good!! Anyone with eyes could see how absurd it looked. I wish I could attach a photo. My hair was sticking straight up and out ....no exaggeration...no style just a mess...which was not even remotely close to what I had asked for. I honestly felt like I was being punked. Mind you, I ASKED if this was something my hair could do before we got started. If no, fine if yes great. The question was met with an exuburant YES! If the owner couldn't do it, he should have said so. It's that simple.
It is unforgiveable and arrogant to try and sell a client on something you know full well is a mess. Take some pride in your work. Admit when you mess up and try to make good on it. It's unprofessional and not acceptable. The owner clearly has gotten to big for his britches.
I also do not recommend massages there. It was evident this person had no schooling/training. While I can appreciate hiring friends and family, it's more important to hire qualified people.
I've also been left waiting on more than one occassion at the desk patiently...nobody else there, nobody on the phone...this is again where the salon needs some customer service training.
For me results there have been sometimes good, sometimes bad, but this last incidient was so beyond ridiculous it tore it for me. I won't be returning.
- Cons: not consistent, customer service needs improvement
SUSAN IS THE BEST!
by nmoss1000
I actually found Susan at Salon Gio through spotting one of her clients in the street!! I have been going to Susan for years! She is a true Artist with the brush! I promise if you are going to one of the ritzy manhattan salons you are waiting your time and money - Susan is a true gem!
- Cons: ZERO NADA NONE
Great Salon
by MischaMischa
This salon has out done many of the other salons in the neighborhood! I was in a wedding and needed to have my hair in an updo..I called up and asked for their first appt. with whom ever they would give(can't be picky at this point)! I arrived and was greated by a very friendly staff. I met Rosa who listened to what I was looking for and I was nervous since I myself wasn't sure how I wanted my hair. I was so PLEASED with her talent and patience. When I arrived to meet up with all the other brides maids I was impressed that my hair stood out from the rest!! I immediately made a haircut appt for the following week. I just had my haircut yesterday and I absolutely LOVE IT AND LOVE ROSA!!! She has a new and dedicated client! It is very difficult to find someone you just "click"with and does exceptional work! I am terrible at making appts. but no need to worry here!! They call you and confirm the night B4. I am so grateful because I need someone to keep ontop of me f/ personal appts since I am soo busy with business appts. I scheduled my appt in 8 wks and I know they will call to remind me....The best part is..I know I will find excuses to go back in the next week to even have my hair blown out.. Way to go Salon Gio and Rosa...You stand out from the rest and the prices are extremely reasonable.....Hhhmm maybe I will schedule a facial next I'm already impressed!
- Pros: Price, friendly staff, ambience, great customer service
- Cons: have found any !
