Staff Makes the Place

The staff makes the place. Lenae behind the bar is just terrific and Amanda on the floor is a total sweetie. The steak arugula salad is good as is the chicken pecan salad.

TERRIBLE and I do mean TERRIBLE SERVICE !!!

I have not been here in years because I went once and had a horrible experience. Silly me - I recently decided to give them another try - WRONG WRONG WRONG ! The wait staff is still utterly mindless. I asked for water like 3 times, finally got up and got my own silverwear from another table and the place wasn't even crowded at the time. I was there with my kids and they brought everyone's food but the youngest...we all sat there and waited for chicken fingers because the kitchen can't time its food any better than that. DO NOT GO !!

• Pros: steak salad was edible
• Cons: utterly negligent wait staff...sub par food

They have great wings -- very juicy, great sauce, tons of wings for $10. The burgers are pretty good as well.

You will be sorry

I've never written an online review of anything but felt compelled to do this. This place is horrible. The management does not care. The food is sometimes OK, but also bad. And, when it is bad, the managers will be rude to you if complain.

The saddest thing about this, is we just moved to the neighborhood and were hoping to find a local place. This seemed like it was it. Looks great, nice selection of beers, and the waitresses are very nice. However, the food is b a d, and the management does not care.

Stay away, you will be sorry.

Great burgers. Better than anywhere else in South Slope.

I never eat in at Johnny Mack's, so I can't vouch for the truth of the other reviews here that say the service is terrible, but I can tell you that for a take-out burger in South Slope, Johnny Mack's can't be beat. Well-cooked, great fries, just greasy enough. The price is right and the burgers are great--far FAR better than Flipsters on 7th or Dizzy's on 8th.

TERRIBLE, horrible owner, horrible manager, overpriced food

oh man where do i even start...so my girlfriend and I went here for a dinner, man oh man, for starters all the bad reviews i read seem to be spot on, the owner "tony" who carries himself like a some pathetic mob wannabe is loud, arrogant, and completely condescending to his staff in front of customers, and the female manager that was there is rude and miserable, the restaurant is actually nice inside but the atmosphere is absolutely ruined by all the children that run around completely out of control, i can't stand parents that think they are entitled to let there kids ruin other peoples evenings, completely tacky and classless, i had kids literally running around me like they were at a playground and the parents do nothing...as for the food my girlfriend got the mixed green salad which was about $8 ..total ripoff, my beer was completely flat and when i asked to exchange it the manager treated me like it was my problem,,,so all in all, bad owner, bad managment, bad food, and way too many annoying children

I went there a while ago & the owner was really rude to us. The food was pretty poor also, its a shame as i live really locally & its great to have a local watering hole to stop & grab a bite at.

So my friend suggested we eat here last night because it's right near her house. I read the reviews on here, and consented, because it was FREEZING and frankly, I was lazy. Never again. First, it took the waitress (Jessica -- memorable name, as we share it) several minutes to greet our table. If it was busy, I'd understand, but there were maybe four tables in the bar dining room. My friend asked for a glass of water and I asked to see the beer list. She came back with the list, and no water. A few minutes later, she came back (still with no water) to take our order. The beer list was absolutely unappealing, so I asked for a glass of water as well. My friend ordered the chicken fingers with buffalo sauce, and I ordered the burger special (cheddar and jack cheese with jalepenos) substituting a side salad instead of fries ($1.50 extra). Nearly 20 minutes later, with empty glasses of water on the edge of the table, our food came out. Well, HER food, mine was completely the wrong sandwich. So I sent it back, and the waitress shuffled over to make some half-hearted apology. TWENTY MORE MINUTES and I finally got my burger. It was fantastic, but not worth the terrible, terrible service. The icing on the cake was having to ASK for our check, and to need her to fix it (I got charged twice for the salad substitution -- under normal circumstances, I'd wave it off as just a dollar fifty, but not after everything else that went wrong). Still, the check was $23 for a burger and chicken fingers. If the service was good, it would have been worth it. Alas, it sucked. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else, unless you're one of the unlucky saddled with children.

• Pros: when I actually got my food, it was delicious.
• Cons: the service from start to finish.
