great local brooklyn place
by tony c at Citysearch
I went there with a group, and the owner - chef just kept asking us whats next, after he suggested some dishes. Everything He brought out was very good, and not overly spiced restauarnt fare, but like Mama's home cooking. Delightful! We sampled several platters and all were excellent. Worth the trip to Brooklyn..
- Pros: very good food same with the service
- Cons: none, maybe parking

fantastic food - always fresh and plentiful. Daily specials!
If you haven't been yet - what's keeping you? Try the Chicken a la Cono!
also, this restaurant was recently awarded the prestigious 5-Star Diamond Award in Hospitality Services!! Better hurry before word gets out!
- Pros: awesome homemade Italian bread
- Cons: none
Excellent family food

Great service, great food and a very homey atmosphere... also the prices are amazing. It's probably actually cheaper than cooking yourself! I recommend the angle hair pasta and shrimp dish... really tasty.
- Pros: Food, Price, Atmosphere
- Cons: None
Good service - poor food

Carmine's, up the street on Graham was closed for vacation. Ok, we tried La Locanda again. What a pity.
The service here is very good. The staff most accomodating and friendly. A nice setting - even if a little sterile. But the food !!!
Started with the Calamari. Not horrible, but tasting very much of the frying oil. A little fresh lemon helps.
Main courses: Penne a la vodka, not bad. Pasta properly done. Nice, light, pink sauce.
Eggplant parmesan : a dish of mush. So overly cooked it was nothing but a plate of melted cheese over a tatseless eggplant. Wort of all; Chicken Saltimboca ( and this on their specialty list). First, the layering is all wrong. The put the spinach on the bottom, the eggplant in the middle and the heavy chicken on top. CHEF - reverse the order. Then, as with the Eggplant Parmesan, it was so overcooked it was like eating pre-digested food. The spinach was so boiled away it was flavorless and textureless, likewise with the layer of eggplant. The chicken on top, slathered with some white substance that was supposed to be Asiago, was as though it had been steamed or boiled. The ensemble was swimming in a pool of a light sauce. Cut back on the sauce. Use a good cheese, but use it sparingly. Lightly blanch and then sautee the spinach. Grill the eggplant to keep it crisp. Arrange the elements in order of weight" chicken on the bottom, the eggplant, then spinach - substantial and green. And use the sauce sparingly.
You have a great location a nice place, but your kitchen needs help.
Also in your favor: good prices and nice portions.
- Pros: good service, good price, nice portions
- Cons: poorly prepared food. Overcooked to the point of tastlessness

the best homestyle italian ive found. Great menu w/ so many choices but i always stick w/ my favorites - spaghetti and meatballs or chicken saltimboca. Huge goblets of decent montepulciano - and delicious homemade bread. Not fancy - but clean, friendly, delicious, and fun!!
- Pros: delicious - no pretensions!
- Cons: bright lighting
GREAT for delivery!

I haven't actually eaten in the restaurant, but get the food delivered pretty often. The chicken margharita is GREAT. What's weird is sometimes they giv eyou homemade pasta, and sometimes not. THe homemade pasta is fabulous..mmmm... Penne vodka is great, also. GOod prices. Odd hours - randomly closed.
- Pros: Good food, good prices, delivery
- Cons: random, unpredictable hours, homemade pasta only at random times
Great Little Local Joint!

La Locanda has all the local intimacy I could want in our Little Italian section of Williamsburg. It has great food, a wide selection on the menu, and easily the best part is the prices. The kitchen is right in the dining room so you can watch the master at work. You really feel like you're in an Italian kitchen. Did I mention the prices are great?
