Great Place!
by chamberdoorzzz
I initially heard about this place from my boyfriend who said that this particular bakery had the best french style dessert popularly named "thousand leaves". I decided to order the cake despite how far away it is from my house and when I got there a very police gentleman opened the door as I walked through and all the girls in the place were super sweet. They were all very helpful and polite. Later on that night I surpised my boyfriend with his favorite cake and to my surprise this cake was so delicious. The flaky layers were crisp and perfect. The chocolate and vanilla creme fillings were devine and the chocolate shavings on top of the cake simply melted in your mouth. All in all this cake was amazing and the people were sweet. I'll be sure to go back!
- Pros: Known for their "Thousand Leaves" cake
- Cons: none
The best around
by ryansmk37
Used to travel all the way back to my old neighborhood in the bronx until I found this place.
By far the best cookies and cakes around.
Great hang out, espresso, gelatti, and cakes. The best italian bakery in the hood; one of the best in NY
by chanag
this is a real neighborhood hangout. I love this place. Great espresso and real Italian treats. I'm not sure what that other person was talking about regarding the gelatti, as far as NY is concerned their gelatti is pretty great. My favorite dessert is their plain large Ba ba; A rum soaked cake. So delicious. I have not tried their cakes but I will and I have a feeling it will make me very happy. Fortunato Bros. is a real Williamsburg hot spot, I feel very lucky to live three blocks away. Don't hesitate to try this place, its great.
- Pros: people watching, quality, atmosphere, yummy and chill
- Cons: service is a bit chaotic

Amazing Mango Gillato
by fingerlickingkitten
I love this place, the mango gillato is amazing. As is the Black Forest Cake, the espresso, and the mocha cookie sandwich. The people watching is great too, stop by around 8 pm on any given night and there is always an interesting local crowd.
- Pros: Gillato, Cake, Coffee
BEST CAKE EVER
by mickey_finn
My friend owns a shop in the area and she always gets the birthday cake there...hands down the most delicious cake ever! Real buttercream, real strawberries, real bananas (real fatty too, I'm sure) but well worth the risk. Love it.
- Pros: Amazing cakes.
- Cons: Far away from my house.
This old-school caffe and pasticceria holds the generations of Williamsburg together with love and gelati.

In Short
The shiny black tables and chairs in this bare bones cafe are perpetually packed with teen couples, old paisanos from the 'hood and ice cream afficianados diving into some of the city's best housemade gelato. Flavors range from standards to hard-to-find Italian options, like tiramisu, hazelnut and zuppa inglese. Other temptations include spumoni, tortoni, cannoli, cookies (try the pinoli), tarts and fluffy white cakes to order.
Gelato Downhill
by bklyn
This place used to have wonderful, intensely flavored gelato. No more. I suspect that they have begun to buy their gelato from a factory rather than making it themselves.
The coffees and the pastries are nice, however, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
