For a good steak, go elsewhere.

by ViennaD at Citysearch

If you’re looking for a good steak, Hunter’s is not the place. Small portions of poor quality food, poorly prepared, and high prices are all this place offers. A new chef with an eye for quality would be a welcome change.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Poorly prepared, poor quality food at high prices.

Food Fun and Service

by AliceMartin at Citysearch

8 of us went there last Friday. We had a great time The service was great and the place itself was really nice. We were meeting up for drinks and a few appetixers so we shared five or six appetizers then we

decided to stay for dinner. I wont go into everything we had but everyone said their entree was delicious.

We were there for about 4 hours and the check came to about $350.00 and that included a ton of drinks.

I will be going back and bringing friends.

It's neither fine nor dining

by alisichka at Citysearch

We came for the "Dine in Brooklyn" special.

This restaurant is reminiscent of mom-and-pop shop in nowhere, Indiana, only there the food it good.

First, they didn't have our reservations. Which wasn't a big deal, because the restaurant was half-empty.

There wasn't much choice for the food - soup or salad, three or four entrees, and three types of dessert. Coffee was also included.

The bread was not fresh, the butter rock hard.

The salad was decent, they actually used fancy lettuce.

The steak was possibly the worst I ever had, I think it was worse than diner steak. it was fatty, too salty, burnt, and, all in all, seemed like a very, very cheap piece of meat. The baked potato was just a plain baked potato, seemed like it was even baked in the microwave.

The coffee was instant (!), I think you get better coffee in third world countries, and the dessert was horrible. Tiramisu didn't have the taste of tiramisu, just lady fingers, mascarpone and cocoa haphazardly connected, and the cheesecake seemed to be about three-days old.

Let's not forget the wines. When asked how a particular wine was (there are about 20 different wines on the wine list), the waitress responded "popular." Upon coming home, googled the wine - it's about $3.99 in a store. The restaurant charged 30 or 40 bucks for it.

Finally, the entire restaurant seemed to be in a greasy fog, which settled on people's glasses. I wear contact lenses, and the air in there completely dried out my eyes.

I would say that this meal should cost no more than $10 altogether, instead of "a good deal" for $23.

Definitely DO NOT recommend.

  • Pros: pleasant service
  • Cons: the food is disgusting

Steak House?

by win1970 at Citysearch

I was there because of the Brooklyn restaurant week, but it was a bit disappointed. : (

I went there with 2 of my buddies, one of them order a steak special, in which, it was tasteless & hard, even it was cooked "medium rare". Me & another buddy share a porterhouse which is recommended by our server, again, it wasn't one of those restaurant week special tho, but it was hard. overall, it was a bad experience for us.

The worst customer service ever!

by businka at Citysearch

We wanted to get advantage of the Brooklyn restaurant week, and got together with 4 couples.whole restaurant experience was horrible, unlike at any other steakhouses or other fine-dining places we?ve been to.The reservations were recorded incorrectly and we were seated 40 minutes late. The hostess offered to get us a round of drinks for being patient with her that the table was not set up, meanwhile the whole place looked half-empty.We placed orders for the cocktails, and then the waitress came and announced it will be very expensive for the restaurant and instead we can have desserts and coffees on the house. We decided to order $30 steaks. We thought the desserts would be a nice finish. We agreed to that and started to check the wine list. The waitress comes back with a tray of drinks and starts putting them down,we told her that we don?t want the drinks since we are going to order wine and regular menu. She gave us attitude & stormed off.We placed the orders, & the meats came overcooked and undercooked for some. When it was time to deliver the desserts, the waitress announced that we are not getting them, because the hostess made a mistake when she promised us the free drinks, then when our waitress promised to substitute desserts and coffee,it WAS a mistake AGAIN.This ?confused? woman was very angry that we wanted to take advantage of the situation & announced that she NEVER had problems with any of her customers. We told her with this attitude she will not have ANY customers.Btw, she didn?t even take orders & didn?t deliver the desserts & coffees, she send another co-coworker, because she was fuming. After the bill came, the desserts, coffees, plus 17% gratitude were all added to the bill.We said it was unfair: they can?t give attitude like that AND expect us to tip them well,& without our permission. The manager and the hostess all came to ?resolve? the situation, and they did take off for the desserts, but the evening was ruined.Don?t waste your time and money on this place!

  • Pros: the steak was ok after recooking
  • Cons: the service is the worst

The WORST POSSIBLE experience in fine dining

by nycglamour at Citysearch

It was a huge mistake to expect a quality evening at this restaurant. They had our reservation at the wrong time & we had to wait for 40 minutes. After we were finally seated, the hostess offered us a free round of drinks as a token of their appreciation for our patience. The waitress came by & took our order for the comp drinks. In 5 minutes she came back saying that they can't give us comp drinks, instead they will give us comp dessert and non-alcoholic beverages, while they were aware we were going with the pre-fix menu & dessert was already included.Being civilized and polite costumers we looked at the situation in a positive light & decided to go with the regular menu, accept the comp dessert & order wine,so we told her to forget about the drinks since nobody asked for them in the first place. The waitress came back in 10 minutes with 4 of the drinks and when we reminded her that we are ordering wine, she rolled her eyes & argued with us in a non-professional tone. Finally, the entrees were served and BIG SURPRISE everyone's meat was not cooked as we asked. Those who wanted rare, received medium well, while those who asked for medium, received rare. When we addressed the issue with the waitress, she said that she thinks it's pretty rare, while you could not even see a little bit of pink in the meat. That's when she said the funniest thing during the evening: "Sir, you should have said you wanted EXTRA RARE!!!"Well,if you know anything about steak & I believe we do(all of us usually dine an Peter Leuger, Tavern on the Green, Smith&Wollensky),THERE'S NO SUCH THING!Anyway,it was time for dessert and guess what!?!The waitress came by and said the desserts & beverages are no longer comp.At this point her tip was a huge zero, but the bill had everything from appetizers to desserts & on top of that there're about $80 of tips already on the bill.It was time to speak with the manager.Another dead lead! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, the worst in history of all restaurants including diners! AVOID!

Must Try

by pixies607 at Citysearch

Hunter Steakhouse is definitely a must-try. Food was excellent - we had the filet mignon (perfectly cooked) and the filet of sole stuffed with crab meat (so delicious). The prices are affordable and the atmosphere was great for a nice, romantic dinner
