This is a truly terrible restaurant
by bdine
I used to go to chez oskar becuase of it's great location. I loved to sit outside and have brunch and say hi to all my friends in the neighborhood. Over time I grew tired of waiting half an hour for a cup of coffee. It's very frustrating! There was one waitress who was wonderful but if you did not get her, then you would get terrible service. The final straw was when I went on a sunday night to have drinks at the bar. My friend and I spent around 80$. I put half in cash and half on card. The bartender took the bill, pocketed the cash as her tip and charged the card for the full amount. First of all, you don't typically tip 20% for drinks at the bar- but even so for someone to assume that 40$ of an 80$ tab is tip is ridiculous and I consider it stealing. I asked her if that is what she did and she said yes and by the look in her eye I could tell she knew that I was upset and she did it fully knowing that was not our intention, but she didn't care. I was so upset I just left. I was too angry to make her give the money back. I would have specificed but i was in the bathroom when she came over and got the check. Her behaviour is indicative of an overall attitude at chez oskar that ultimately led me to never return. It has been almost 2 years I still live in the neighborhood but will never go back. I DO go to chez lola. The food is better and everyone is so nice there. I don't care what you say about it being a relaxed neighborhood restaurant I am not an uptight diner and understand that brooklyn service is not the same as manhattan. But seriously this place is THE worst service I have EVER received. I am sure people will keep going there just becuasee of its location, but there are many other nice restaurants that have opened up in the neighborhood in the past couple of years that I would suggest you go to.
- Pros: location
- Cons: service
Very disappointing

I walked into CheZ Oscar on 01/27/09 thinking it is as good as CheZ Lola, owned by the same person. Let me start by saying that the waiter/host barely said hello to me, I had to ask if there were any specials..to what he answered.."yes..but just soup"..I had a chicken caesar salad, a side order of french fries and a glass of Pinot Grigio $22.24 totally overpriced for what the salad was..they burned the chicken and the coutons, the dressing looked like chicken fat floating in some kind of oil, officially the worst salad I have ever had. The french fries were O.K. You could taste the oil a little bit too much. The only good thing was the Wine, they carry a great selection. The tables are not stable, you will have to tell the wait staff to put a cork underneath it
crab cakes...ohmigod!

I love this place! This is the place to relax and chill and listen to great music (live or otherwise)...I agree that the servers can take a lil while to get to get to the table but the food and drinks are incredible and the servers are really intelligent and fun to talk to about the neighborhood and the world. I especially love Jason's margaritas and Alex's Ipod! And if you are a crabcake conssiuer...oh my God! I go back again and again and I don't mind waiting cuz' brooklyn is all about chilling...and honestly ask and ye shall receive...it's not manhattan so it doesn't come right away, but they are slammed all the time, what d you expect?!Chill...it's brooklyn people!
- Pros: Great outside seating, smart staff
- Cons: slow kitchen
Believe the reviews...................
by brooklyn_is_cool
.........the service is horrible, the wait staff is indifferent, and once you place your order who do you have to know to get a piece of bread and a glass of water. These people must hate their jobs with a passion, or think that they are being cool by ignoring you. There are other restaurants on DeKalb that are much better.
Run don't walk away from this place.
- Pros: Nice outdoor seating
- Cons: Everything else
Go to Chez Lola
by adinner
The waiters at Chez Oskar are rude and incompetent every time I go there. There are one or two that have been there forever and are the only reason service doesnt grind to a halt.but everyone else just phones it in. Go to Chez Lola on Myrtle. Owned by the same people but with an accodating staff and a much fresher menu.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Service
PLastic OMelette/ taking orders
by eazy
I went there recently for a sunday brunch. I got cheese on my omelette which I specifically asked not to.(this is the 3rd time my order was messed up here) I looked past that and what do I find but a piece of plastic wrap in my omelette. The manager took it away asked if I wanted the another omelette even though my apetite was already ruined, I accepted. ( it was afterall my birthday brunch) That took about 10min to get to me. The manager comped one of my mimosa's as an apology... He should have comped my omelette and my mimosa's!!!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: GReat crab cakes and atmosphere
- Cons: SERVICE USUALLY bad
What's with the tin speaker outside?
by at0m
Relatively good restaurant, with reliable, if unimaginative, food. Great place for a late night drink outside in the summer - with one very large exception. There is the worst cheap speaker outside that looks like it was pulled off my first "boombox" when I was a child. It sounds petty, but having the music brought outside blaring through this horrible plastic box mounted by wire on the back door pretty much ruined the experience. Doesn't the owner realize people out there may want to just enjoy the outside? Either get a respectable sound system or let people in eat/drink in peace out there. It's just plain tacky as is.
Most loathsome waitstaff with bland food - in a fresh hipster decor!
by loverofgreene
Want to impress your date solely based on aesthetics! Then head ye to Chez Oskar, Fort Greene's number one pick in a long list of pretentious restaurants offering lame, hipstered-out waitstaff that are shockingly much dumber and more mean than the TSA! Enjoy long waits and unimaginative food that only appeals because it is in a great font and the owner is vaguely ethnic enough to appeal to Fort Greene? Then you should come here. Otherwise, if you want a menu that's changed in the last five years or food thats appropriately priced for its level of quality, head to any other restaurant in Fort Greene...
Fresh brunch, accommodating service and killer atmosphere
by ashmunki
One of the first places I ate as a full-fledged New York denizen, this Ft Greene spot has one of the tightest brunches in my 'hood. I only do late brunches so my friend and I were seated right away. I had ridiculous Nutella crepes (small portion, bomb-ass flavor) and succulent Virginia Ham, and my friend had Eggs Benedict that were off the chain.
I'm excited to explore their non-brunch menu.
- Pros: Exciting flavors, funky atmosphere
- Cons: Small-ish portions
