Awful Place

by mominnyc at Citysearch

This place is so unique in their utter lack for respect for people. It is only viewed as a place to make money and the upkeep is awful! I don't know who wrote that last review, but I would bet it was from somebody in the office because I don't know anyone who is happy there. There are so many options in NYC please look elsewhere!

  • Pros: Nothing!
  • Cons: They do not care about their tenants or people!

Don't be fooled

by 4everwhenever2gether at Citysearch

I lived in Flatbush Gardens for 4 years. It was a nightmare from day one! Management doesn't not have the tenants best interest in mind. They constantly give the runaround with excuses of why things can't get done.

In 2006, I was hospitalized for a wee, suffered loss of pay, which left me short on my rent. I explained that I had money for the back rent but I had to wait a week or two past the due date for the money to clear. I was told by a staff member over the phone "We understand, but we don't know what the landlord is going to do". I was due for a new lease. The next week they left me a summons for housing court for non-payment. They refused my check of $1500 because "it was a court matter now".

I struggled for two years paying back rent while they refused my payments because "they don't accept partial payments", making my rent balance more than what I could pay at once. They kept taking me to court with a new stipulation that was near impossible to comply with.

They wanted me out. They assumed, I refused to pay my rent because I was holding out on repairs and as well as the assumption that I just didn't want to pay.

I finally left in Nov 2008. They had jacked my rent up from $675 to $835 for a studio apartment. It wasn't worth it. I lived on the top floor where I had rodents running back and forth at night in the ceiling and tumbling down the walls. Management insisted I need an exterminator. I wasn't the only one on that floor that heard the rodents.

The neighbors right next door to me would party all night, sometime till 6am, and blast their music any time they felt like it but security never came to them. They came to me when I wanted to play my music at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday!

The teens that lived there would have there friends in the hallway, smoking, leaving trash behind, urine in the elevator and inside the compactor closet.

Flatbush Gardens was a hell hole. Don't move there!
