Arrogant Bartenders

by jsvadher

Went to Last Exit tonight. The bartender, Becky, said she wouldn't server me because of a dispute that happened two Sundays ago. First of all, she kept the bar open past 4 AM. Then, in a frenzy started swiping credit cards right and left. She claimed to have swiped my card twice, however, that was a lie. Then she claimed I was rude. All this was over a tab of $10. The last time I had less than $10 in my pocket was 1990. The las t thing I want to do is cause an issue at a bar that I go to often. After leaving without causing a problem I took the time to call the bar to straighten out the "issue" I had with Becky. After being hung up on I ask, who was rude? All this over a $10 tab. Last time for the Last Exit.

  • Pros: Was a great bar to meet people
  • Cons: Bartenders, Becky, are arrogant.

Eclectic and fun

by Jacko3

I was visiting NYC from Austin and had been told "you should go to Brooklyn." Not at all sure where to go my friend and I stumbled upon Atlantic Ave. and went to several bars. We both really loved Last Exit. The mood is very chill, with its red lighting and local art on the wall. The bartender had her dog in there for awhile, which I loved. The cocktails had creative election-themed names which made me laugh. The music was loud enough to create an ambiance, but quiet enough you could still carry on a conversation with the person next to you. Good for just two people but also has seating for larger groups. I recommend it!

  • Pros: Ambience, creative drinks/cocktails, relaxed
  • Cons: bathrooms a bit dirty, but to be expected i suppose

great hang out spot

by memmy16

Easy-going atmosphere and ability to bring your own food make the Last Exit a great place to relax after work. And Monday night trivia is a real treat - there is an entry fee but you win a cash prize. Drinks can get pricey though.

  • Pros: easy-going
  • Cons: drink prices have gone up

Viva Katharine!

by boerumbrahmin

The aggressive ownership has tried and failed to replicate their success here with the Flying Saucer (incompetent staff) and Hank's Saloon (bought the place and fired legendary bartenders, all without realizing the whole block was going to be torn down in a year), but they still have a good thing going at Last Exit. It's the rare kind of place with an attitude to attract the hip indie set and a friendly kookieness that is welcoming to local lifers. Katharine, the improv actress who has tended bar here for years, is just a gem.

  • Pros: Great bartender, zany activities, relaxed
  • Cons: Drinks are no bargain

Veer off Cobble Hill's trendy freeway for something a bit darker.

The Scene
Scads of young and not-so-young Brooklynites from nearby Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope and Fort Greene hop a train, even a bus, come here. This enticingly kitschy, pleasantly uncontrived bar (named for the Hubert Selby novel) also captures curious passers-by like a starving, slightly sinister Venus's-flytrap. A haphazard string of lights in the window, mismatched couches in back, provocative artwork and a crowd that feels like a party on the edge combine to pull in all sorts and mix them up like one of the bar's fruit-fangled martinis.

The Draw
In a rare show of true community, regulars approach newcomers, agile bartenders take care of their patron kin and, under the hypnotic glow of red lightbulbs, most can't fathom leaving once they've settled in. (Probably wise, as there are few alternatives in the area.) Infectious, slightly nostalgic music heightens the David Lynch-esque undercurrent.

stay here

by brklyn

regulars, irregulars, this has everything. The bartendress is brilliant and amazing, and easy on the eyes. Fri. nite, Bobby spins and was the 1st to play Zero 7- (before it was on the O.C.!) It's a local place, and I can come here alone, and leave alone if I choose. I loved the paintings, and the art is always a good conversation starter.

  • Pros: comfortable, great music, friendly

I have just made this bar my new 'local',the music is probably the best iv'e heard since moving to New York,Especially on fridays. The staff are great and there is always something going to make you chuckle. This bar has great energy, its the sort of place you could go to on your own and still have a great time.I have met a lot great people there and the women are tremendous!!!I have always made a point of bringing friends from out of town straight to this spot and have had no complaints yet.It is definately the place to go in Brooklyn I give this place 11/10!!!!R W

Better than Williamsburg

by Dextro

When I first came in I was pleasantly surpised by the eclectic group of individuals hanging out there....I mean.....a woman in a business suit bonding with a punk rocker with a foot high purple mohawk is a sign of a cool place to me. This plus the fact that i was totally loving the music motivated me to ask the owners if I could spin there, and now I do every Tuesday Night. Come check me out and make some new friends.

  • Pros: great location, great music, relaxed atmosphere
