Love but too long of a wait.
by gloriainny1
I loved grimaldi's pizza but hate the wait and the way it feels like you are rushed out. The waiters are rude and arrogant. The place is way too small for their volume. Fortunately for me there is another pizza just as fabulous around the corner, Ignacio's.
I'll still visit Grimaldi's when I see no line. But thank goodness for the new option.
- Pros: Pizza is delicious
- Cons: The line is very long
Never again

I took my parents who were visiting from Atlanta to Grimaldis last night. The line was not that long and we were expecting it anyway. There were no issues until the owner came out and starting taking people from anywhere in the line who fit the 4 person table requirement. The seating inside is so tight anyway, why not take two parties of 2 and sit them side by side and keep the line fair. He did this repeatedly and people who just could have entered the line were lucky and skipped the wait the rest of us were doing.
It seems as though the motto at Grimaldis is to take people and get them in and out within the shortest amount of time. We ordered 2 pizzas and the seating was so crammed that our 2nd pizza was put on the windowsill and we had to get up out of our chairs to get to it. The waiters too seem too arrogant to give proper service. I asked for water 3 times before 2 waiters come and start playing around and finally end up spilling the water on the floor and on my mother. No apologies were given.
They want you in and out of there as quick as possible so forget about trying to be relaxed while eating. The pizza is very good but unfortunately, with such a poor overall experience it completely overshadows the positive.
One would think with all the money they must make, the restaurant can appear in a better condition; I understand to preserve the original but clean the place up.
Anyway, I would not recommend this place - there are tons of other pizza places in the city that offer terrific pizza with great service.
- Pros: pizza
- Cons: staff
The owner is an a--hole
by atman22
I can confirm that the owner is a mean, bitter old man. Surprising, considering his success.
I've been to Grimaldi's many times before and had always enjoyed the experience. So when I tried to take a friend there the other day, I was surprised at how rude the elderly man out front was to me. Seriously, I'm a nice midwestern girl and I hadn't even started our interaction - he saw me standing around, looking at a sign saying that the take out line was the same as the regular line, and trying to figure out if I should wait or not, and he asked if I needed help. When I reiterated the take out policy and just asked him to confirm that it was true, our conversation devolved into him asking a series of pointless questions meant to make me feel stupid - "What does that sign say?" "What don't you understand about it?" "Oh yeah? How does it work at other pizzerias?" "Have you ever had a pizza here?" "What do you think people come for?"
There were plenty of opportunities for him to chill the f--k out and just say, sorry we don't do take out because of xyz reasons. And that would have been awesome. But belittling your customers is out of the question. Maybe it was a bad day for him, I noticed him barking at other people while we were standing in line. But I have a feeling that he's just a crusty old a--hole who doesn't give a s--t about what people think, because he'll always have a long line outside his pizzeria. Considering Lombardi's is just as good, I'll be taking my business there from now on.
- Pros: None
- Cons: The owner
Great!
by chamberdoorzzz
This place is so cute...so cozy...a little tight and sometimes noisey but that is the beauty of it. Everyone in there sits next to each other, somewhat like a family style dining and you end up peeking over to see what the other table is having or even starting a conversation with them. Pizza is delicious...brick oven style. On top of the delicious pizza you get to see how its actually made so there isn't any funny business about it. The guys there are nice and try to accommodate you as much as possible. The walls are filled with the "who's who of the what's what" of the celebrity world, which is pretty entertaining as you wait for your pizza which i must add...does not take long even though it is made to order. I love this place and you will too!
- Pros: family style dining
Homophobic
by matt26
grimaldis is homophobic after waiting in line for about 40 minutes, the guy told me and my friends we could not go in because we had tank tops on, even though there were other patrons in the restaurant. We believe it was because we were gay.
It's all about the crust!
by malorielucich

- Pros: crunchy crusty is hard to find
- Cons: too many people
It's all about the crust

For me pizza is all about the crust and Grimaldi's knows how to do it right.
- Pros: The crispy crust with corn meal
- Cons: too many people
Not worth the hype
by CSMobileUser3
I waited in a line for an hour and fifteen minutes just to order takeout. The pizza crust is wonderful, but the cheese ruined the whole pie. It was too salty to eat. I was very dissapointed. They don't answer phone calls and do not allow pre-order on takeouts. Ridiculous.
Best Pizza in NYC
by CSMobileUser
There is a reason why people would stand in line for an hour on a weekend afternoon. Without a doubt the best brick oven pizza in New York City
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
