Great Fried Chicken

Well, I finally got to Ruthies, and so glad I did. I was dying for fried chicken tonight and didn't want to make it myself. We took the drive from Bensonhurst and glad we did. The fried chicken was juicey, crispy and so not greasy. Absolutely delicious!. The breast was huge, I thought it would be dry, just the oposite, wonderful. The sides, candied sweet potatos,seasoned rice and the mac and cheese were quite good too, like you're eating in your gramma's kitchen. The staff was so nice, made us feel very comfortable and well looked after, and Ruthie is a sweetheart, a real nice person and great southern cook, imho. We'll be going back, and I hope we luck out again with a parking spot, it can be hard down there. So go to Ruthies and enjoy!

Worth the Wait!

After visiting an ill friend in the hospital, I began walking toward the subway, and my nose was assaulted! The food smelled sooooo good, I was forced to go into this place...a place that looked cramped and like no other restaurant I've ever been in before! That was several years ago, and I visit Ruthie's almost monthly, despite the fact that it is at least an hour away from my home! The food is beyond description! It brings to mind your---or your best friend's---mother's home cooking! Miss Ruthie herself can often be seen either taking orders or cooking. They have two locations, but this one is where you can "eat-in," though be prepared to make good friends with the people at one of the other seven tables, because everyone is so close together.

It is also important to note that everything is not served everyday, for example ribs are Thursday-Saturday, while the turkey wings are Monday-Wednesday. Their ribs are exsquisite, and they often run out of them before the evening, so I'd suggest ordering them early if you are interested in tasting that treat! But, fear not! If they have run out, there is a chance that their other [lesser known] location may still have enough for a dinner or two.

And, yes, it tastes even better than it looks! My suggestion would be to call in your order to go, because parking is very difficult, and as good as the food is, it's not worth a parking ticket!

This place gets two thumbs up for both service and food.

This restaurant comes highly recommended by friends, but we had a bit of a run in with the hostess, who, after finally letting us know that our food had been sent out after 1.5 hours (on a busy Friday night) scolded us because she had the wrong address, and insisted that we gave it to her. We know where we live. We were willing to overlook an order that was approaching two hours late on a busy night--we're restaurant industry people so we get it--but we don't like being scolded by a place that failed to deliver our food, then hung up on, then yelled at again when we called back to try and make sense of things. What?

Can't Wait to Visist Again!

This place was recommended to me on a recent visit to NYC. I made a point to go to Brooklyn to visit the restaurant and I am glad that I did. The food was like visiting Mom's house and the service was a welcome change. The mac & cheese is so creamy and greens are seasoned just right. I am recommending that everyone that I know that visits NYC goes to Ruthie's and I will be back.

GREAT SOUL

i received the warmest, most sincere and friendliest service - possibly ever! - in NYC. brooklyn and it's in habitants never cease to amaze me. after living in manhattan for the last 16 years, i wish i had come to brooklyn sooner. it's people like Ruthie that give this world charm. her food (she actually cooks it!) is fantastic down-home soul food served with love and a trip to fort greene without a stop at Ruthies would be a shame. excellent mac and cheese.
