Bad Service!
by nycgal1010 at Citysearch
Over-priced and staff was busy discussing how many garlic knots they wanted to buy at the Pizza place across the street. The person at the register never even once looked at me or said anything....other than so how many garlic knots can I get for a dollar. If I am paying high prices for wine I expect help and some advice with wine choice. I will walk out of my way to 5th avenue Red, White and Bubbly.....much better service!
- Pros: None that I can see
- Cons: Bad service, over-priced
OVERPRICED!!

While the selection is good, this establishment is waaaayyyy overpriced. If you don't believe me, take any bottle of your liking, and compare the prices here and other stores in the area. I have done that with several bottles, and this store consistently came up 15-20% more expensive! There's absolutely no justification for that. I'll give you an example. I compared a really nice bottle of Granacha called Tres Picos. At Shawn's Wine & Spirits (7th/Carroll) - a friendly, local, neighborhoody shop that's reasonably priced and has an ok selection - and at Red, White & Bubbly (5th Ave/Union) - THE best wine store in the area (or at least used to be, lately it's been so so) - it goes for $16.99. It used to be $12.99, then with the drop of the dollar it climbed to $13.99, $14.99 and the latest I've seen it was - gasp! - $16.99 (and indeed, even at $16.99 it's worth it). What do the guys at 7th Avenue Wine & Liquor Company charge for it? $19.99! The owner, I presume, assumes we're idiots and don't don't know what's going on in other stores. I guess if you're just an occasional wine consumer, or if for some reason you aren't aware of other stores in the area (we're talking about a few block radius), you might be duped into paying these exorbitant prices. But if you're a wise consumer, I would suggest to go elsewhere (unless, of course, you're interested in something particular and it just so happens that only they carry it). And I didn't even start talking about the sales staff (ignorant! really), and the owner with the off-putting vibe.. In sum, nothing against them personally, but really, not a great shopping experience and again, waaayyy overpriced. I recommend to go elsewhere.
- Pros: decent selection, especially of anything other than wine
- Cons: OVERPRICED! ignorant staff, overly commercial, money making machine, impersonal
Oustanding service and selection.

Best in the Park Slope area. Better choices and helpful staff puts them above their competition. Wine tastings are fun and informative.
- Pros: Knowledgeable staff to hel you choose the right wine (or spirit).
- Cons: None
