Worth the Trip / So Close!!!

by 424769

What a pleasant surprise! We randomly decided to try this restaurant that we pass by every day. The food was amazing. The scallops were seared to perfection and the onion soup was a meal in itself. My entree, Tilapia, was so beautiful that I almost didn?t want to eat it. Meanwhile, the Duck breast was extra tasty and delicious. It?s been a long time since I?ve been to a restaurant, which served excellent food that was presented with a creative and appealing style. I would absolutely go back.

  • Pros: Good Food
  • Cons: Close to City

A Great Dining Experience

by rkw212

It was a beautiful evening so.... we put the top down and decided to try a restaurant we had heard about in Brooklyn. It was so easy to locate. Just over the Brooklyn Bridge. We found a spot in front! The atmosphere was very warm and cozy. The food was amazing. I started with the most delicious beet salad with blueberries & mint in a raspberry sauce. My friend had the prosutto and caramelized figs, which were to die for. The ?Special of the day? was paella. It was full of flavor and packed with fresh clams, mussels and lobster. It was so delicious that even though I was so full I couldn?t stop eating it. The rich, creamy and decadent macaroni and cheese was THE BEST I?ve ever had. My friend ordered the succulent Tilapia with tomato confit as his entree, which he savored.

After all that I managed to stuff in Drambuie Creme Brule that were so good it was worth the pain. The new chef really does a spectacular job! I would definitely recommend it and I can?t wait to go again.

  • Pros: Great food in a relaxing setting
  • Cons: It's not in midtown

Good food, good service, convenient location

by foodsnob213

Was actually headed to Henry's end which is next door, but decided to take a chance. The food is really good. Working in the food industry, I'm rarely impressed with restaurants anymore. The short ribs were good, but the sweet potatoes that came with them were delicious. The service was good. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, although the tables are close like many NYC restaurants--but got to listen to two old ladies talk about what's wrong with Palin and their landlords so I was at least amused. Had the profiteroles for dessert with coffee ice cream in the middle--not to die for, but pretty good. Overall good experience and I'll go back to try other dishes.

A NYC Gem!

by nyc102

All I can say is WOW! The chef can definitely cook and the owner is hot which is a bonus! I have been several times now and each time it has been excellent. The service is great too. I regularly go to all the high end places in Manhattan and this place is on par if not better. The shellfish dish at the end of the menu is amazing along with any of the desserts. Glad to have them around the hood.

  • Pros: Outstanding Chef.
  • Cons: None.

OMG! I saw Tyra Banks eating here on Friday night! She's even prettier in person. By the way, the food was great.

A welcome find on Henry street.

Great Chrismas Eve dinner.!

You know that warm feeling you get when everything is just right?

Thats the way me and my wife felt on Christmas eve when we ventured out to this cozy spot.

We were warmly welcomed, and sat down promptly even though we had no reservations and the place seemed quite full. The service was right on, and the food reminded me of this great little place me and my wife used to frequent in Paris. Very good indeed.

Highly recommended to anyone.

Christmas eve. or not we will be going back!!!

  • Pros: Romantic, cozy spot. Food and Service

Too pricey for the 'hood

by isthereanyusername

I've lived in Brooklyn Heights for 2 years now and have been almost everywhere on Henry Street- so was pumped to find this place newly opened. Tonight my boyfriend and I visited. Lovely service, sweet little place (though nothing special for French place in terms of decor), and pretty basic French menu and wine list. But the food? With every entree about in the $18 and up range, this place was way too pricey for what you get, and for the neighborhood. Salads were all about $10, also too much for a starter salad around here. And the food really wasn't all that inspiring. I had the monkfish, in a tasty broth with olives, tomatoes, onions, and gold potatoes (too heavy on the potatoes, and a pretty small piece of fish). But, definitely a tasty dish. However, my partner had the steak frites, and afterwards commented on how disappointed he was that he paid $24 for "that Ponderosa steak." Ouch. As for the fries, where were the potatoes? They were like fried shoestrings.

Wine was fine, although I asked for Sauvingnon Blanc and I could SWEAR they brought me the Reisling they had by the glass (you know that telltale sweetness of Reisling...)

It's too bad this place couldn't drop its prices down $4-5 per entree, bringing it into the range of a place I'd actually go back to...considering they're obviously trying to make a solid go at remaining in the neighborhood.

  • Pros: Service, didn't feel rushed (then again, we were the only ones there for the first 30 minutes)
  • Cons: Too expensive, food not good enough for those prices

Good "Chef" Service

by mrajguru

Our experience was really good. My wife is a vegetarian and asked for the "Vegetarian or Veg" Plate. It was delicious, very well balanced meal. My meal was good. I ordered the specials - calamari salad (delicious, but unevenly salted) and the lamb chops - I didn't know that red peppers (I don't like them) were a part of the Mediterranean vegetables that came with the chops. The staff was really good from the hostess, chef down to the wait service. I recommend the trip!

  • Pros: Staff, Food
  • Cons: Tight space, not good for strollers

Great date, delicious french food

by anvasqu

It opened up a few months ago and I went in January for the first time. They don't take reservations and the first time I went, there was a long wait. We hung out at the very petit bar for about 30 minutes after which the owner/manager approached us and told us the drinks were on him. The food was great, they have only a few plates, a little of everything. The desserts and service were also great. I went back a couple of weeks ago and it didn't let me down. There was no wait this time and everything is still great!

  • Pros: romantic, close to subway, moderately priced for french ciusine
  • Cons: no reservations, small
