So rude!!!

by CynC

I went with JWILS. Her review is above.

I was one of the people that went for this horrible experience. My friend is 100% right in the experience we had. The hostess was rude and I got a distinct feeling that they did not want to serve us. The only thing that my friend left out is that when we sat down at the bar the bartender disappeared. I asked for a menu and the same waitress looked at my like I was insane. I was shocked that my friends wanted to stay after the waitress said, "can I help you" and "how many are in your party." What? The three of us standing in front of her should have been an indication of how many of us there were. We didn't look like the other patrons in there so unfortunately I think that may have been part of the problem. Shame on this place for the horrible rude staff and non-existent customer service.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: nasty servers, inexplicatble 30min wait, invisible bartender

Service is deplorable!!

by jwils

After driving around with a couple of friends, we noticed the sign for Flatbush Farms and thought it would be a cool place to catch dinner on a Sunday evening.

We went inside and was met with the hostess who looked my friends and I up and down and said in the RUDEST tone ever, "Can I Help You?" Really?! I don't think I walked into the Gap or H&M...this is a restaurant...what do you mean can i help you? You should start off by something like welcome to Flatbush Farm would you like to join us for dinner...something like that...

So I didn't walk out, I said yes we would like a table for dinner. She looked at the THREE people standing in front of her and said with such a deadpan expression...How Many? Again, I didn't walk out, I said its 3 of us.

It was a 30 min wait so we sat the bar. Fine, we'll have drinks and chat and wait.

There was a couple that just got up from the bar and the man left his cell on the counter. I said to the hostess, "someone left there cell phone at the bar...I think it belongs to the couple that just got up" WELL, she looked at me like I had just spoken in Swahili and grew two heads right in front of her because she stared at me for a moment, then rolled her eyes and DID NOT RESPOND!! At this point, my friends and I looked at each other, and left. As we were leaving I hear her yell behind us, oh you're leaving. I just kept going b/c I don't have the type of personality that can be calm in these types of situations. My friends were polite and said yes we've changed our minds but I just walked out. We went to a nice Greek restaurant right across the street and had some of the best food I've eaten in a while.

PLEASE DONT GO HERE!! The other reviewers are RIGHT! The service is deplorable!!!

Delicious! Was I in the right place? :)

by uzimax

Myself and four friends dined at Flatbush Farm last night and it was a great! I was apprehensive about this place from reading the reviews and was pleasantly surprised before, during and after the meal. I feel like I went to a different restaurant. One with scrumptious food (my husband and I had the mouth watering steak for two), good service, and no greasy haired waitress. Hmmmm......I smell high maintenance customers frequenting this area. Hello? This is far from fine dining and the cool, aloof service is probably a result of your high maintenance self barking away at the wait staff. This place is CASUAL and very mellow. We had a very nice server who appeared when she was needed and waited on other tables when we didn't need her. Oh my God, yes there were other tables there who also looked extremely pleased with the food. I saw the half chicken entree float by and it was HUGE. Nice portions - the steak for two is not for light eaters. So, for those of you wondering where the server was on a busy night, she was...let me take a wild guess here, WAITING on other tables because you were probably not the only table there. Whew! I know you probably didn't realize this. The prices are reasonable (organic = expensive, park slope(ish)=expensive, year 2009 economy tanking = expensive) and the food is very tasty. If you need to count your pennies to have dinner, perhaps you should stay home and cook your own dinner!

get out while you can. in fact, just don't go there to start with. caveat emptor.

by cronomer

wow. after living in the area for three years, i finally went to the flatbush farm tonight. my wife and i were really excited.

the only understanding that i can offer them:

we waited 20 mins for table. no problem. saturday night.

and that is the end of the courtesy.

after being seated. five minutes until the "waiter" came over. told us of the specials, was insulted that we were not ready to order and did not come back for an additional five minutes. the wonderful beginning of the attempted fleecing began with the MP price skirt steak for 35$! skirt steak? really? after asking him to repeat the price thereafter he claimed to be "mixed up" and that the skirt steak was 22$. fine.

the salad ap came within 15. which was very good to be honest.

the wine came 25 minutes after.

the food came 10 after that.

the bread that was apparent at the tables of all else was apparently a commodity, as ours never came.

the skirt steak was literally cold to the touch, the salmon was a sad portion and also not even warm. we drank a half glass of the wine barely each. sent the food back. after telling the indignant pseudo-boratesque tool waiter that we were done here. i had to go and request the manager, who was the only nice part of the evening, after telling him briefly of the case, he absorbed the bill, apologized, and said to give the farm another try.

after which my wife and i went beast, and had a delicious and fairly priced meal - which is usual for beast.

i will NEVER again go to flatbush scams, er flatbush farms.

the worst service i have ever had in new york <wendy's is better>, terrible food <see: wendy's>, and indignant and disinterested staff <ok: same as wendy's> - bottom line.

go anywhere else. anywhere. soda, barette, beast, anywhere. let this sore die.

  • Pros: quite honestly, only the manager who acknowledged our horrid service.
  • Cons: all. literally all.

bad staff

by ziopino

I generally like this place. The food is good. The design of the space is good.

But the service is HORRID!

I was there for brunch recently, and we were tag teamed by a waitress and a waiter. The waiter delivered our food while holding what appeared to be a plastic bag of garbage in one hand. I can't believe that it was, but please put the bag down before delivering food! The waitress came to check in on us every few minutes, and began to clear the plates while half of us were still eating (a big pet peeve of mine that happens almost everywhere, so I try to ignore it). I couldn't ignore the fact that she reach over the plate of one of my friends, who was in mid bite, to clear the table. She then put the check down without asking if we were done, and came to check on the bill every two minutes, even though we were one of three occupied tables. I wish I could like this place more, and I wish someone would retrain the staff.

Come Here and Chillax..

by chiway

Dinner at Flatbush Farm is just a great all around dining experience. Personable, attentive waitstaff, serving wonderfully seasoned, nicely cooked, fresh ingredients in a sociable yet relaxing atmosphere at terrifically reasonable prices. The most compelling selling point about this busy local joint, for me, is the outdoor dining area in the back. On a clear and cool night, eating out back at this place makes for a perfect evening.

  • Pros: outdoor dining area, food, personable service
  • Cons: long wait times

Best Spatzle in the City, Hands Down!

by juliebullock

Being a regular customer at The Farm for the past year, I can't help but wonder if it was another restaurant that these other reviewer's are refering to. First off, the majority of the time I have a great experience with the waitstaff, they are attentive but do not hover and sufficate the dining experience. Secondly, the food is consistently outstanding! The constant chaning of the seasonally local menu always allows for a culinary surprise. Most recently I have had the pleasure of dining on the Asapargus Spatzle, it was the best I have had in the city, and I have tried almost every restaurants Spatzle. Maybe the Chef is Austrian?

send the food and the waiters to a farm

by eiknujdoof

I have a love and hate relationship with flatbush farm. Finally after last night, I will not eat there again. I first ate there when they served duck confit. Now that is not on the menu. I tried everything and nothing is that good. The wait staffs are terrible. All the women dress terribly. One brunch i had a waitress that had grease all over her blouse that was too tight and showing her extra poundage.Maybe if this was a greasy dinner in n.j. but for the price they charge, they should be more presentable. That alone made me lose my appetite. Then i got the worst grits in my life that tasted like it was not cooked long enough. The waitress basically said that 's how we cook them here. Any descent restaraunt would have offer the customer to chose something else. One evening, waitress forgot an appetizer first than forgot an entree. Did not even come to the table to acknowlege it. .As in the 80's sitcom 'Alice" you can Kiss My Grits if I ever spend another penny there. the end......

So bad I cant even begin to describe but I will try. Keep reading

by joshuadavid

Bland, bland and bland. Food was bland and service was bland to the point of nonexistent. Ambiance and dining space were both bland. I had the duck and my boyfriend had the veal. Neither of us finished our food and we took it home for the cats. The cats weren't thrilled. I ate the bread to avoid leaving hungry. I had asked the server for some duck sauce for my duck, he looked me in the eye and said, "yes" and I never saw him again. True story. I was there for at lest another 20 minutes and he kept serving people around me.

I am glad I went because now I know I am not missing anything.

Nice cuisine, Great back yard

by mlschofi

I have had very positive experiences at this restaurant. I have been there three times. The first time I ate in the bar area. I had some oysters and then the lamb stew. I returned and had the chicken liver salad and a sea bass special with corn succotash. Most recently I had their burger. All of the food was very good, well seasoned, though not inexpensive. If you are looking for a cheap takeout meal, look elsewhere, I would say this is quality stuff.

Their back yard is spectacular on a summer evening. I have had none of the service issues that others have discussed. I usually drink beer when I go, but I have noticed the wine served in tumblers, which I never care for. I have not tried the desserts. I give it 4 stars in general, minus one for the tumblers and plus one for the backyard.
