great food, bad service and HEALTH VIOLATION
by charr093
I loved this place with all my heart. The chopped chicken bbq sandwich is great, the mac and cheese is good and so are the seasoned fries. It quickly became one of my favoirte spots in BK! Until i read their health violations which they received during their last inspection on 5/09. I cant eat here anymore until they clean this place up! its not healthy :-(
- Pros: the food was great!!
- Cons: until i read their recent health inspecion online!!
I was Mayor here until Sam F. ousted me

- Pros: wings
- Cons: no wifi
Why oh why aren't these people educated on service?

First visit: eat in: 2.5 hours-rude waitress-rude host-remade order 2 times due to lack of menu items-still didn't get the full order-no comps
2nd visit: takeout: they say 15 minutes-I get there in 15, it takes 30. the pickup window isn't taking payments- the bar says to pay at the pick up window- the line's backed up from pick up customers and the guy at the bar can't work the computer- they give me dirty looks (maybe they recognized me from last time)
3rd visit: deliver: I order $14.63 of food (same order as my pick up but for some reason a dollar less?), she says they have a $25 min for delivery- I say just charge me 15, it's 37 cents short-she says she can't do that- I say ask the boss-she comes back very disgruntled and says this one time only-as I'm saying bye she just hangs up....
- Pros: decent food
- Cons: worst service-over and over and over again
I tried...

I went to Smoke Joint when they first opened & I was underwhelmed because I'm southern & I can cook. But, I live in the neighborhood & it's crowded everytime I go by, so last night I decided to try it again. I got the Brooklyn Wings & Fries. Well, the fries were good. The last time I ate at Smoke Joint, a few years ago, I felt like the meat had a weird taste, like lighter fluid. Last night, when I bit into the wing, I tasted the same thing. It wasn't pleasant. I know they use a smoker. I don't know how smokers operate at all, I just know that the aftertaste in my mouth reminded me of too much lighter fluid. Not pleasant.
But, other people seem to like it so maybe it's just me.
- Pros: cute, quick service, bbq sauce is good
- Cons: taste
going downhill

this place has been popular since they opened two years ago- and it seems to have gone to their heads.
it's still overpriced, a la carte, and now not as good as it used to be. I went there the other day with a couple of friends and we weren't abel to finsih the food. The corn was overdone and the whole slab of Ribs (22 GD dollars) was filled with fat and did not taste good. of course, not enough barbecue sauce either.
Not only that, the service is not so good either. apparently the girls behind the counter will take your order whenever they damn well please. skip this place and make the ribs yourself.
- Pros: location
- Cons: everything else
Terrible service
by crazylegs08
Smoke Joint has great food, the mac and cheese parallels blue smoke in the "creaminess-factor" but other than that, the experience was disappointing. The woman who took our order had no idea what she was doing, maybe the fumes had gotten to her, but even the cash register appeared to be foreign. She not only messed up our order, she ''corrected it'' (to her boss) but did not do so for us. She was merely saving her pride in front of the man who paid her, but didn't care that she had given us "chicken wings" instead of "baked beans". The place is not particularly loud, so I don't understand this mistake, but if you have the patience and if you happen to eat meat, in any variety, I would recommend this place.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Food
The pork baby backs melt in your mouth!
by sssglass
I don't write reviews very often, but felt compelled after eating here. The food was FANTASTIC. I ate an order of pork baby back ribs without ever using my hands. Meat was so tender, it fell right off the bone with a touch of the fork...cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese was good as well. Very casual atmosphere and good service.
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: Small space, counter-service only
NY BBQ at its Best
by eveningside
Really delicious savory smoky flavors. The hacked pork sandwich I had was tasty and, due to the large portion, I had some to take home. The mac & cheese was yummy too (it's actually cellentani & cheese) and a filling portion. There's an excellent selection of domestic & imported Belgian beer.
The outdoor seating (though only a few small tables and no place for a group outing) blends eaters with some of Fort Greene's developing 'laid-back urban-chic semi-boho' atmosphere. The place altogether is small, seating will be cramped/unavailable at obvious grazing times.
The staff was friendly, a hardworking crew of few who quickly managed dozens of orders on a sunny weekend afternoon.
I went by myself and would go there again, but bring no more than 2 friends and arrive before 4pm on a weekend.
- Pros: The best of NYBBQ, nice staff & neighborhood, good lambics!
- Cons: Tight space and long waits
Excellent Barbecue

Had the pulled pork platter with mac and cheese and collard greens. everything was delicious. I was surprised at how flavorful even the cole slaw was. i just really wished they had sour pickles. I like it to counterbalance the sweetness of the sauce. Definitely a go.
- Pros: Excellent Food
- Cons: No sour pickles
Finally, great BBQ, not just in Brooklyn, but all of NYC
by carolinianinBK
Being from North Carolina (land of BBQ-in fact the BBQ scene there is so contentious that it actually divides the sate) I was so happy to find this place. I have eaten at the big and little BBQ joints in NYC, trying in vain to find my favorite food and resonably priced (honestly, $17 for a pork platter at Blue Smoke, how can you even be serious?). What I've found so far is that so many of them are trying to do "Southern" style of BBQ and most of them do it haphazardly and it ends up over all bad and hokey. The Smoke Joint really steps out and makes no apologies to be their own brand of BBQ, certainly from their menu there are some throwbacks to the south ( it is BBQ, so you can't and shouldn't completely ignore the influence), but it is done very well. The rubs on the smoked meat is well balanced, the sauces are outstanding and the pickles, well they are just delicious. The service is fast and friendly and most importantly, they are dedicated to the cause of creating a good meal. I highly suggest this place to all BBQ fans and to anyone who enjoys a well crafted meal.
*And as for the post that says "I have been eating BBQ all over the country" where have you been eating BBQ? California? Come south, eat real BBQ and then you'll appreciate the gem that is the Smoked Joint.
