HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

by mangiafa at Citysearch

I really thought Lola was going to be a great place to eat. Well, I couldn't have been more mistaken. The servicer pretended to be professional but clearly was not. We had a large party, 12, and this place just could not service us. The food took forever to get to us. Half of us got our food first and afer like 10 mins. the rest got theirs. Then to beat it all, the food was cold. It was sent back, nuked, and returned. Can you imagine nuking mussels? Oh, yeah, and the mussels were $12 for like 12 mussels. Unheard of anywhere, even in NY.. The paella was not edible. Not only cold but horrible. Grainy gross rice with non-descriptive seafood, meager portion as well.. don't bother wasting ur time or money. We had to ask for bread after sitting for like 35 mins and getting no even water.

  • Pros: NICE AMBIENCE
  • Cons: TOO MANY

If you want a relaxing and pleasurable meal then go to Chez lola which puts it sister restaurant, Chez Oskar, to shame. The food is wonderful, the staff is accomodating, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Go there!

pathetic

My husband and i had a terrible experience at Chez Lola.

The service was unfriendly and simply unprofessional . We showed up at 10 pm and the waitress made us clearly understand that she didn't want to serve any longer that night. She rushed us and was very rude in her attitude.

The quality of the food was ridiculous. First my meal, the pork loin, arrived cold! and the sauce tasted like one of those Maggi tablets! My husband ordered the chicken and it wasn't delectable at all. It is dinner food! But too expensive for that!

And last detail: the cooks whistling at me from their open kitchen when we left!

Un grand moment de gastronomie !!!

A very poor experience! I really don't recommend that place!

Excellent meal, friendly staff, good ambiance. Love it!

My family came here on Mother's Day after a horrible experience with the host at Mojito down the street (read the review...and don't ever go there!). The host/waiter/bartender was AMAZING and the food was wonderful. We had a great time - didn't feel rushed at all - and they play excellent music here, so we were able to just sit for a while, drink our wine, talk, etc, before even ordering anything. My sister, who lives in the neighborhood, tells me that they often have a live Brazilian Jazz trio sometimes....I can't wait to go back and hear some good music and drink more good wine!

  • Pros: Excellent food (especially the crepes!), great staff, great ambiance
  • Cons: None!

Very good and Eclectic food, great presentation and decor

by Sabyer at Citysearch

A favorite in Fort Greene! i had no idea that this place was owned by the same people as Chez Oskar, but it definitely shows! The food is great and original, the decor is very original, the waiters very nice. I felt a little bad that this place was a bit too quiet as it is definitely a best in the neighborhood, certainly not pretentious either. Good for a date or with a bunch of friends. They occasionally have live music as well (on Wednesdays?).

Try the almond cake, it is delicious!

A Real Treasure

by renee_ann1 at Citysearch

This place has it all: beautiful decor, friendly staff an excellent food. I stumbled upon it with my fiance, and now we're there every weekend. The staff , especially the manager Edit, is wonderful. And the drinks, (my favorite is the Vander Bender), are excellent. A gem in Clinton Hill/Fort Greene.

  • Pros: Everything
  • Cons: A bit difficult to get to via subway

A wonderfully tasting and visually appealing experience every time we go. Great service, a fun drink menu and the salmon burger is a real winner. Daily specials are always interesting and the ones I have tried have been very very good.

  • Pros: ambience and prompt service

lovely lovely lola

The paris martinis are so delicious, fresh and delightful, like biting into a pear,. but so much more complex. the bread they set on the table is chewy and fresh--but where are the plates? i had a pile of crumbs in front of me and nowhere to set the bread down! the olive oil was a nice touch, though I thought that was an Italian thing. Anyway, I went with two friends, myself and one other had the salmon burger with skinny onion rings--the burger was so damn good.. and the chipotle mayo made it all worth while. the onion rings were fair.. could've used less salt. i had to drink a LOT of water, although the wait staff was incredibly attentive. any time my glass went below half full they were there filling it up! my other friend had the cheese burger..which she phrased as being "the bomb".. she loved it. they cleared our empty plates promptly and asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert--we had the white chocolate lavender bread pudding--FANTASTIC. so so good. I have to say, the space is a bit crowded and cramped.. my friend got smacked more than once as a waitress passed, though apologies were given. The ambiance is quite nice as well. it made me enjoy my food all the more. Reasonably priced considering the amount of food we had and what we ordered...I look forward to going again!

  • Pros: dessert, drinks, ample portions, conscientious wait staff
  • Cons: salty onion rings, a little too cramped

Neighborhood Spot

by jdurr at Citysearch

I moved to Fort Greene 8 motnhs ago (after living 12 yrs on the Upper West Side). The opening of Chez Lola made my life in the neighborhood more pleasant. I visit it several times a week, sometimes even just for a glass of wine and its terrific cheese terrine. The food is always delicious (great daily specials, I had Venison the other night); service very attentive and fast. The waiters and managers make you feel right at home. The cocktail menu is very addictive?.. it always hard to have only one of those pear martinis?. We all are very lucky to have a restaurant like Lola in our neighborhood. Believe me, I never got even a warm greeting or any attention in restaurants that I visited on the UWS for years. They already started brunch as well, and since it's not very crowded its very easy to get a table.

  • Pros: food, winelist, service, GARDEN!!!
  • Cons: cash only, not open for lunch
