It was a wonderful little place for our nite out. We enjoyed the food...its byob and there is a wine shop around the corner with a nice selection.

The food was very good but waiting over an hour for an entree after finishing our apps was crazy..what was worse was when we asked if we would get our food soon the overly chill waiter dude replied ," I dont know". GREAT RESPONSE. Seriously its a great spot but have 2 bottles of vino and nowhere else to be if you go on a weekend nite. We kicked our bottle and had nothing to drink for the dinner that arrived almost an hour and 20 minutes after our apps!

• Pros: Delish food, nice cozy romantic ambience
• Cons: small kitchen, long wait, entree took over an hour on a Sat!

Best French food and Best Seafood in Brooklyn!

I went there for the first time for an early Friday night dinner. The restaurant itself is very unassuming from the outside and the location is hidden - it's tucked away on Hicks St right next to the BQE. I passed it by chance when I walking to Red Hook from Cobble Hill, and I would've never noticed it except I decided to walk on Hicks Street. We got there at 7PM and if was already getting crowded. Had delicious whole Branzino with fried oysters. I can honestly say it's probably one of my best dining experiences I've had in Brooklyn (food and service.) Compliments to the chef! Very nice waiter - attentive and friendly and the seafood was excellent. Decor added to the experience - it was very eclectic and rustic - lots of different decorations of fish. I will definitely come back! At LEAST once a month!

• Cons: Small, so long waits possible, cash only

Best Seafood and Quit Friendly

The food is prepared to order and always fresh. The service is friendly and excellent. The environment is reminiscent of my grandmother's kitchen and her back yard in the summertime. Thanks to the staff and chef for a great place to eat and relax. Have eaten here several times during the past few months and am headed there now, with my wife and our friend (his first time). Never disappointed!

Pescatarians rejoice!!!

This place is amazing. Neil Ganic is brilliant. Try the Thai cod curry, as it was inspired by the late, great Amanda Green. His salmon burger is groovy, the crimini are really just baby portabella. Oh well.

Best whole fish and seafood you CAN'T find in brooklyn

There were a couple reviews mentioning the really bad service and the expensive price for the less-than-competent staff and not-so-great food. There is no reason to expect as much as some of these people have expected from Petite Crevette. This is obviously not a restaurant like with Le Bernardin or Le Cirque. What you CAN expect is heartwarming charm, great seafood for an absolutely unbeatable price. There is no room for snotty, over-the-top, irrational personalities in Brooklyn. I regularly come to eat at Petite Crevette and have done so for at least 10 times now and i can attest that it is a humble and romantic place to have dinner. You can even stop by for a quick lunch. Some of the highlights for dinner (or even lunch for that matter) i can highly recommend are the perfectly seared sea Scallops with their amicably creamy and mustardy Dijonaise sauce, the classic Cioppino (similar to the Bouillabaisse) with its succulent lobster and seafood tomato broth, and the grilled Branzino (although the other whole fish are amazing, depending on your preference). The appetizers i absolutely love (and hear others recommend) are the amazing fried oysters with wasabi mayo and dijonaise mustard, the amazingly rich-tasting, deep red Heirloom tomato and fresh mozzarella over mixed green salad, and the seafood chowder with chunks of cod fish and just the right amount of carrots and zucchini.

Like I said. This is not a 5 star restaurant so please don't go to Petite Crevette thinking you will be absolutely flabbergasted by the service. The staff is very friendly and you will not be disappointed. It is a humble place and you will feel at home. The food is absolute greatness! Chef Neil Ganic really knows his seafood, and his souschefs seem well trained to transcend his abilities and give you exactly what the last diner has received: absolute bliss!

CONS: not extremely easy to find, CASH ONLY

Really great food and service - This will become "your place" to take friends, family or anyone special.

One of the best restaurants! Food is impeccable and very inexpensive. I take good friends, family and colleagues here whenever i get the chance - I've come here with my mom who really likes it too. The last time I went with 4 people, we had 7 appetizers (because it all looked so intriguing) and 4 entrees. We were stuffed and when we got the check and were pleasantly surprised. We checked the math because it came out so cheap - we thought there must've been an error (in our favor)!!! It was indeed correct.

The staff and Chef are great. I go there with a mixed crowd of people and we have always been treated with respect and hospitality.

THE FOOD IS GREAT

THE PRICES ARE INEXPENSIVE

Take someone you like or love here.

• Pros: Quality of food, freshness, cleanliness, staff and chef make you feel at home, unique and out of the ordinary food, appropriate portions (plenty to eat)

Truly Excellent!

I take extreme offense to the last person who posted. They clearly have no idea what they're talking about, and the personal insults they sling are simply vile and unfounded. Chef Neil Gannic is one of the kindest, warmest, most generous people I've ever encountered in the restaurant business, and I've come back to Petite Crevette many times to enjoy his deliciously prepared food. I especially love the Curry Cod, the perfectly seasoned Cioppino, and any of the fresh whole grilled fish that change seasonally. If it sometimes takes a little while for the food to arrive, this is exactly what one expects from a small, intimate restaurant dedicated to freshly preparing delicious, home-cooked meals with the best possible ingredients. If you can't appreciate that this kind of quality takes time, then you're better off at McDonalds. Otherwise, bring a bottle of wine, sit back, and enjoy!

worst ever!

remember when P.C. was on Atlantic Avenue and totally unpretentious and good food w/o outrageous prices? well, those days are long gone! the owner/chef (now crazier than ever... i read somewhere that he was yelling racial slurs to passerbys... which i will NEVER go to his restuarant again after reading this!)... must be out of his mind to charge the prices he charges for the ambiance and service that you get at this 'diner'... the food is mediocre, i would suggest going to smith street to get a better meal for the price! the food (i ordered a green salad and salmon) too FOREVER to get to the table, and was served by a high school kid who couldn't even descibe half of the dishes so i went for the salmon... AND, it wasn't a busy night (and the same high school kid had an attitude problem!) never again will i cross the bqe to eat at a mediocre place!

Flawed

Great food. TERRIBLE SERVICE. It's byob, which is actually kind of nice. However, it took our waitress on a not very busy Tuesday night over 30 minutes to bring us wine glasses and open the wine for us after we were seated. Our cold appetizer (haricot verts mixed green salad) took 45 minutes. Entrees took another hour. In this time we finished our wine and were ready to knaw on the table.

Another pet peeve: the cioppino. A delicious, hearty seafood stew with a very generous half lobster. Inedible. The catch- no way to get to the meat! As a matter of policy, they refuse to offer customers a seafood cracker so you can actually get to this delicious lobster meat. I sent mine back to the kitchen to open for me (also no knife or tiny fork) and the waitress gave me an attitude. WTF? If I was a waitress and management refused to provide crackers for the shellfish, I would carry my own to offer to customers.
