Best Eyebrow Shaping - not just in Brooklyn - but in NYC!!!
by carol18

I've been to Eliza and Robin Evans. Both are very good, but I find that Elke's "eye" is more suitable to my own as far as shape and expression. I like a more natural brow with a pleasant expression. I can't stand the harsh overly extended or arched brows that seem to be out there a lot. I just want to look like me - only better. Elke spent about an hour with me - listening, talking and getting to know my likes and dislikes. She totally understood!! She looked me face-on to see my bone structure and how my brows naturally grew. She explained every part to me and let me even watch while she was doing them so that I could say, "NOOOOOO!!" if I needed to. I didn't need to. She shaped them and they look beautiful. They are the best I've ever had! I still need to grow one in more due to previous overwaxing. But Elke gave me tips on how to get them to grow faster and fuller. I'm SO glad I've found her. She is wonderful and I feel really lucky to have her in my neighborhood. WONDERFUL!!!
- Pros: Elke!!!!
- Cons: A little on the moderate side. But you get 1 free shaping after 5 AND you get what you pay for. (Eyebrows are IMPORTANT!!!)

The stylists are always good and the salon is modern and sleek. Always a great experience. Make an appointment before you go and the home made smellies are also an unusual touch.
Good cuts; great eyebrow guru by Jennifer K. at InsiderPages

I've had several good--if unmemorable--haircuts here. However it's the resident eyebrow guru Elke who is the star here. A celebrity makeup artist, she travels a lot--so you need to make an appointment way in advance to catch her when she's in town. Shapings by tweezer only are a bit pricey ($35 last I checked) but you'll look great.
Great Haircut, Nice people, Professional Salon

Tanya did an excellent job on my hair. I had long hair and was nervous about making a change but I really wanted to try something different. Tanya was patient and she took time to work with me. She was also honest with me about my hair type and face shape and what would look good. She talked to me about how to style my hair after my hair cut and gave really good advice on how to take care of it. She actually did what I really wanted her to do, which is not something I've always gotten at other salons where I have paid more.
Also, Jackie, the woman who was at the front desk, was very helpful. She was helping me articulate what I wanted and was also honest with me about my hair type and what would look good and be doable for my lifestyle. She made me feel less nervous and I was appreciative of that.
Everyone at Slope Suds was great towards me. This place is clean, professional, and not pretentious at all! Everyone was very down to earth and the staff seemed to get along well with each other and it made my visit fun. They are nice people who want you to have a great hair cut and will make you feel at home.
If you are using the online booking system, I recommend also calling to follow up to make sure you are scheduled in for your appointment. The website for Slope Suds is cool because you can see profiles for the people who work there and what they specialize in. You can get a lot of information on the website before your actual visit. Also, I was able to get an appointment with only a days notice so that made me pretty happy. I did not have to wait long when I got there and no one rushed me out, either.
I would recommend this salon to any of my closest friends.
- Pros: Affordable, nice down to earth staff with talent, evening hours
- Cons: I'm not sure if the online scheduling is really that reliable. Call them to follow up.
Good cut, tiny place, unpleasant staff

I attempted to book an appointment on line, but never got a response from the salon so I called. The woman who answered the phone snarled that she had responded to my email (whatever). I really liked the woman who did my cut, but the place felt claustrophobic even though it was just me and three staff. When I left I had a totally bizarre and unpleasant exchange with the woman who manages the front desk (see snarler, above) and that's just two too many unpleasant incidents for my taste. I can manage ridiculous people on the subway, but where I get my hair done? No thanks.
- Pros: Good cut, lovely stylist
- Cons: Way too small, snotty receptionist
Best men's haircut I've ever had

The thing is, Slope Suds really looked at me, talked to me about what they thought would work well and i left with a fantastic cut. I felt really handsome. This is the best cut I've ever had.
- Pros: awesome cut!!!!
- Cons: I'm still 20lbs overweight

Wonderful experience at this salon! Texas is amazing. She's never done my hair before but I've seen others with great cuts and color from her and just decided to trust her to do whatever she thought would be right for me. My highlights look beautiful and then Elke tinted my brows to match and shaped my brows perfectly. I believe their latest stylist shift has really changed the entire energy of the place and everyone seems much happier now. I was in and out so quickly and the price was super fair and totally worth it.
I can't wait for Texas to do my next cut!
- Pros: skill, confidence, $
- Cons: none
Not worth the price.

I have used Citysearch as a guide to various things in my neighborhood and thought I should contribute my opinion, for what it's worth. I have had both good and bad experiences at Slope Suds. Love Karla's haircuts but not so much the others there, and I find the service unreliable in general. For instance, a couple of times I received messages -- just minutes before my scheduled appointment -- that they needed to reschedule, or that the time I had written down was incorrect (not likely). Once the hair stylist forgot to wash my hair. Overall, I haven't been impressed and think that, for the price, you should get better service. A great haircut is worth a lot...but is it worth a less than professional staff and what seems to be a total disregard to organization of any kind? I don't think so.
- Pros: in the neighborhood, casual atmosphere
- Cons: disorganized
disappointing....

had one great haircut and then a couple of mediocre haircuts and then one bad haircut - the last time, i asked for a blunt cut but Karla seems to only know how to do layers (which are going to take forever to grow out and look decent)- -i don't know about the other stylists, maybe they are better.... very disappointed because they're aren't many places in park slope/prospect heights.....9
- Pros: in neighborhood, not crazy expensive
- Cons: don't give you the haircut you want....
Don't Ignore The Bad Reviews!!!!

I was checking the reviews for Slope Suds to see if anyone had had a terrible experience like I did. Let's just say I wasn't shocked to see that there were bad reviews. After making the decision to switch stylists, I tried this salon for my cut and highlights. It was AWFUL. My color was so brassy and not close to the scalp at all. I looked like a skunk who got my highlights done 4 weeks earlier. My cut wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't the greatest. After contemplating whether to go back and have them redo it or go back to my original stylist with my tail between my legs, I decided to tuck my tail. No one at Slope Suds will ever touch my hair again. With that said, believe what reviews you like, just know that your hair and wallet will suffer.
- Pros: in the slope
- Cons: Skills, Price for Service, Clearly Inexperienced
