Legit but not as good as...

Definitely good banh mi no doubt. However, I wouldn't say that it's the best in NYC. I would say that if you've already made it down to the LES, make the extra trek over to China Town's Saigon Bakery for a more authentic, cheaper, and generously portioned sandwich. The pork is different too - Nicky's pork is ground and is added with slight cream sauce whereas Saigon Bakery is more chunks of fried pork.

• Pros: Delivers decent, solid sandwich
• Cons: Wouldn't say it's the best

Great place

They make great food! The chicken sandwich is my fav. From time to time the chicken is a little tough, but overall, this place is fab. Good price and great value.

Best Vietnamese

I've been a fan of Vietnamese sandwiches for a long time back when it was a little known side menu item in the court house district downtown. A few places in Chinatown served them but it was a very insider thing. They slowly got prominence from a few foodie articles in the New Yorker and Time Out, and that's about when Nicky's in the E.Vil opened. Nicky's in Brooklyn opened about 6 months later. Anyway, long review short... the sandwiches here (in both shops) are far superior to what you get in the court house area. Fresh baguettes... not hero rolls. Fresh jalape?o... fresh cilantro. The smell of the sandwiches is almost better than the taste, but not quite. It's a delicious olfactory experience. Now they have Pho, which is about a gallon of amazing soup which you drop fresh beef or veg into to steep and then eat... the ultimate winter food. And get some vietnamese coffee. So good. Ms. Dang the owner manager is also incredibly sweet, knows and chats with everyone, and gives it a totally smalltown but NY competent vibe that epitomizes Brooklyn. This place rocks... just remember it's closed Mondays.

• Pros: Amazing sandwiches, continual delightful surprises on the menu as you progress
• Cons: Tight seating, easy to overlook on block composed mainly of antique stores

Great portobello Vietnamese sandwich! Excellent price ($4 I think?) It's nice to find such a delicious vegetarian snack!

OMG SSSSSSSOOOOO GOOD!!!!

was in chinatown yesterday and grabbed a vietnamese sandwich for the first time...woke up this morning craving them! didnt wanna go to the city so i googled vietnamese sandwiches. to my surprise, i found nikki's which is less than 5 mins away from my apt. OHHH MY GODNESS!!! it was 100 times better than what i had yesterday...my husband and i ordered sardines, portabello and chicken sandwiches....we ate it right away and it def just melted in my mouth! we were suppose to save our second sandwich for dinner but ended up eating all of them immediately. you will def not be disappointed. the best thing is that they deliver!

• Pros: CRISPY YUMMY SANDWICHES
• Cons: must eat while hot and fresh, average person can eat 2

Best vietnamese food =)

I was walking by their brooklyn location and realized that they now serve pho! i was so happy! i went and tried one and i must say, one of the best bowls ive had in the states. I love it and the family that works there are very friendly and kind. Very highly recommended.

amazing viet sandwiches (and pho now!)

Nicky's is a smallish place thats easy to miss while walking by, which i have done a few times even though i was trying to get there.

It is a fantastic place to go if you're looking for a great vietnamese sandwich. I order at least two for myself when i go. And on days when i dont want a sandwich, i can order the same on rice or vermicelli instead of on a bun. It is one of those places where you bring a friend and they continue to go back once or twice a week because they just cant help themselves.

if only they had pho... id be there ALL the time.

EDIT!!! - They now have pho. It's fantastic. if you're not a big fan of the fatty pieces in usual pho bowls you find in like... chinatown, the meat in these bowls are very meaty (best description i can think of) and just as good, if not better. I havent eaten anything else there since.

• Pros: best sandwiches, cheap
• Cons: none.

The best Banh-Mi anywhere! Super fast service, friendly

this place is my FAVE. it's a long walk from my house, but it's a great place. they serve the food really fast, and the bread is unreal. i think it's my fave lunch place ever. hanco's is so much closer to me but i cant take waiting 30 minutes for a sandwich anymore, so now i trek up atlantic ave to nicky's ...and it rocks.

• Pros: great food, great service, great price- LOVE it
• Cons: no cons- it's the best

The Scene
There's nothing fancy about this joint, where the line for takeout often dwarfs those huddled at the few patio-style tables. Bright colored walls, fake greenery and a cooler of Snapple round out the decor.

The Food
A faithful re-creation of the classic banh mi sandwich draws the crowds. Served on a wonderfully chewy roll that yields easily to the teeth, it's a pleasing mix of savory meat (pate, ham and pork) and sweet pickled veggies (carrots and cucumber), plus a touch of cilantro and moderate dollop of mayo. Insist on sliced jalepeno for the requisite kick. It also comes with chicken, pork chop, sardine or portobello mushroom, which can't compare taste-wise to its meatier cousins. The bland, limp summer rolls are not the shop's forte. The fresh tangy lemonade with lime, however, is a must.

Best vietnamese sandwiches ever!

If you never had a vietnamese sandwich, you need to go to Nicky's. They're delicious and affordable. I live in Brooklyn and have been going to the E. Village to get these amazing sandwiches for quite a while now so you can only imagine how happy I am that they're opening in Brooklyn on 311 Atlantic Ave. bet. Smith and Hoyt Streets. Give it a try, you'll love it!

• Cons: Not enough seating, but there's more seating in the new location in Brooklyn
