Vintage Williamsburg style gets custom with some of Brooklyn's hippest seamstresses.

by Corrina Laughlin

In Short
Maiden Hong Kong's collection of antique sewing machines in the window says it all. This is the place for vintage clothing, alterations and custom designs. The store's garments run the gamut from cocktail attire and costumes to cute sweater sets and casual wear. Buy a rehabbed vintage piece or take a class and learn to sew from the pros. This charming corner space is a blast from the past with plenty of knick knacks to make it homey.

HOT vintage styles,

by kdcnewyork

I happened to come across this little store quite by accident- While working on a film, the lead had completely ripped her shirt during a take. Of course we had no replacement, and we had sixteen more setups to go. Changing to a different shirt meant breaking continuity, which is tantamount to complete disaster. We would have to find an exact duplicate. I looked at the torn shirt and almost had another heart attack- a vintage Bill Blass with a butterfly collar. We were screwed.

With the entire night in jeopardy and the executive producer about to have kittens, I grabbed my A.D., picked up the pieces of violated fabric and set out to find a miracle. Half a cigarette later, we found one. Just blocks away, my A.D. spies a corner boutique just about to close down for the day, and we walked inside. The feeling that one gets walking into Maiden Hong Kong is not what one generally expects from a Williamsburg boutique- the racks are not overcrowded, and the space is far from claustrophobic. All of the clothing and jewelry is carefully selected and beautifully displayed. And if that is not good enough, Its owner, Wendy, is drop-dead gorgeous. With her looks, she could easily be sipping Cristal in the South of France. But lucky for us she?s here in Brooklyn, generous both with her warmth and fantastic sense of style.

And so what about the torn shirt? Not only did we find a replacement, but Wendy was actually able to repair the old one, on the premises. Remember when stores provided a service? Not surprisingly, this five foot, eight inch amalgamation of beauty and brains also freelances as a costume designer, and can create, or repair, anything. Between the incredible fashion finds, quality workmanship, ?starving artist? pricing and unparalleled level of service, Maiden Hong Kong is quite literally, a ?best kept secret? of New York, and believe me, there are not many of these left. Shop there only if you have extremely good taste, or want to pretend like you do.

Friendly service and great selection!

by whayward

Only a few blocks away from the lorimer stop on the L, it is a great place to stop by on your way home from work or wandering the neighborhood on the weekend. The dresses and pretty tops are always great, but they also have a really fun selection of men's wear! The decor is super-cute as well. I always have a really nice time speaking with the owner - she has a great sense of style and obviosly really cares about her customers. I would totally recommend this shop to any of my friends! There is something for everyone!

Maiden Hong Kong is Maiden Heaven.

by rapunzell_ny

I don't even live NEAR Williamsburg, but I have schlepped out from Park Slope for the purpose of shopping here on several occasions. Lovely, lovely wares, especially the jewelry-- I have at one time ogled at every piece in the shop. Suitable for ladies of all inclinations, be they gentle peach or swash-buckling boho. Kisses to Maiden Hong Kong! 5 big stars.

GREAT STORE

by tttlock

This store has a great selection of vintage clothing, along with orginal pieces from new desingers. The staff was very welcoming and I must say easy on the eyes if you know what I mean. The best part is that they fix holes in your jeans and that's a good look if you have a little thickness in the thigh area. Maiden Hong Kong is absolutely one of my favorite boutiques. I highly recommend it to anyone who works hard for their money and wants to treat themselves to fabulous clothes with an attentive and trustworthy staff to assist you.

The best vintage store in all of the five boroughs!

by mandymeow

I live in the area and make an effort to stop in the store at least once a week! It's the cutest, and there's a good mix of funky and classic. Great place if you're looking for a cocktail dress for a date. Also, all the vintage pieces are in such good shape! My favorite purchase was a silk french-inspired shirt that buttoned from the back - for only $16!! Also the staff is generally chill, friendly, helpful, etc - but thankfully not too in your face. When friends visit from out of town, I always bring them here and they inevitably fall in love and leave with at least 1-2 bags full of goodies.

  • Pros: great vintage pieces, cool asian-y decor, relaxed feel, bargain prices!
  • Cons: none that i can think of.

Lovely Brooklyn Boutique with style and originality

by lindsayjoelle

Maiden Hong Kong is an eclectic mix of lovely handpicked vintage clothing, deliciously beautiful jewelry and accessories. Many boutiques and shops are opening in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint area what seems like weekly, Maiden Hong Kong has proved a mainstay and is worth popping in often to see what ever changing stock is available. They also sell on consigment so it's a great place to get rid of that amazing number that no longer fits! And it's female owned and run, gotta support the ladies right!

  • Pros: beautiful shop, great selection of womens and mens, good prices, tailoring and alterations as well
  • Cons: not really a con, but would love to see more accessories
