Serving NYC's finest pie

I almost shed a tear when digging into my first pie at DUB.
The owner claims to use only the finest ingredients and judging by the taste he's true to his word.
The pastry is exceptional, soft and buttery enough to melt in your mouth but with just enough crispness to balance each bite. The meat is soft and tender, lacking in fat. Finally the gravies and seasonings are nice and strong without overpowering one's taste buds. For meat-lovers: try the steak 'n' cheese; breakfast or mince 'n' cheese. Vegetarians: the Tex Mex or Spinach and Feta.
Good music, friendly staff, reasonable coffee, relaxed atmosphere.

Having just returned from Australia, I was missing my fix of meat pies. The Dubpies crew delivered steaming hot authentic goodness within an hour of my call, and the product was superb as always. No hesitation in recommending the food or the service...
- Pros: Fast, cheap, gourmet and real coffee

First time I call for delivery, no gravy...I figure let me get the Dub Plate the way it should be, I decline, at least they told me.
Second time I order the Dub Plate, no mention of there being no Gravy. Food arrives, NO GRAVY! OK. The pies are tiny but really good. Not worth $5, but quite delicious. The mashed potatoes and peas in the dub plate? Terrible, ended up pitching them into the garbage, maybe gravy would've helped, who knows.
Third time, I call at 6:00, line is busy. Line was busy for a half hour, are they done delivering for the day?? Menu says open until 10. I order a Pizza instead.
Fourth time I call at 8:30. No more deliveries they tell me. I mention the menu says 10 PM on it, "We really stop an hour earlier than that" I am told. OK, I point out it is only 8:30, not 9:00, but the menu says 10. No good, no food, likely no gravy either.
Fifth time, there is no fifth time, i ripped the menu up and threw it away.
The pies are decent but overpriced at $5 a throw and the Dub Plate? A waste of $9.50.
Do Not Ask For Delivery. Better yet, get food somewhere else.

New shop in the neighborhood, so we thought we would try it out. DO NOT ASK FOR DELIVERY. After an hour, we called only to find out they had forgot about our order, and "they would get it to us in five minutes." After 20 more minutes, we called to find out they didn't even have the "Dub Plate #1," which comprised half our order. Which basically means they...ran out of potatoes? Quite a feat. Awesome management, guys.
Didn't bother further. While I can't comment on the actual food, poor service with even the best food in the world (which I'm sure a MEAT PIE isn't) can put anyone off.
Pick your food up. Or else you are in for a frustrating night of hunger.
PS. They also cared less about their mistakes.

To recent reviewers of this establishment,leave the slander at home. You live uptown don't you. You made the trek all the way down to Brooklyn,carefully not looking anyone in the eyes in fear of a "jumping",you were mad at the fact you had to walk 6 blocks from the F train to get here and then proceeded to dissonantly bash the place.Get with the Program. People don't come here just for the pies and sausage rolls,they come down for a whole lot more. Cultural Stimuli,good music,good people,funny accents! Have you walked around this area?
Don't be so quick to judge,oh wait,that's what your getting paid for isn't it! Ok then,leave your judgements in Manhattan!....Great coffee this morning...thanks Gareth!

Ok this place really has nothing to do with Australia, lets get that straight. I'm from Australia so I should bloody know. Down Under Bakery appears to be run and staffed by New Zealanders, which is fine, but if you're going to serve a sausage roll which is so miserable, and pitiful that you wish you'd never set eyes on it, you have no business associating yourself with that other country down there called Australia.
It was probably the worst sausage roll I've ever eaten, and you must know that in Australia we have higher standards for such things. Australian sausage rolls (basically cooked pork and other stuff wrapped and cooked in a very light pastry) are bigger, better and taste delicious. This one had no such attributes, and it was $3.00!
I also tried a chicken pie which was ok, but nothing really to write home about. The place itself is small and reasonably pleasant, but please don't go there thinking you are visiting a defacto Aussieland, or that you'll be getting anything exactly like the food they serve in Australia. This is New Zealand cuisine folks, orright.
I'm surprised they don't serve fush and chups, but that would be a dead giveaway.
Not recommeded (unless you're a Kiwi or have no idea what a good sausage roll is)
- Pros: It's not crowded
- Cons: Worst, roughest street (as in bad repair) street in NYC.

became my motto after discovering DUB Pies soon after it opened. Can't speak to their 'authenticity', but the help mostly has adorable accents (and extremely warm and inviting attitudes), so I'm going to guess they're the real deal . . .
No matter, though - the pies are a revelation. The meat is high quality, the crust is delicious and doesn't seem greasy, and the experience couldn't be better. For an inexpensive, fast meal at any time (try the egg and bacon for breakfast, or grab a shepherd's pie late on a weekend night), DUB is never a disappointment.

My friend and I spent the night wandering around Red Hook (water taxi to the pier, art show by the docks, bought a bottle of bourbon up the way, dinner at Brasserie 360) and finally landed at DUB Pies.
We didn't actually have any of the pies, but I can attest the excellence of everything else. The chocolate-coconut desert was just awesome, and the coffee is made with obsessive-compulsive perfection by a Kiwi coffee nut who also kept us company and told us her very cool story (the shop's very existence is serendipitous).
More amazing even than the in-store service, as we were walking to the subway, the owner rode up on his bicycle (from many blocks away) to bring us the aforementioned bourbon (which we had carelessly left at the restaurant). That's (literally) going the extra mile!
Will definitely be back for coffee, desert and (next time) for pie!
- Pros: Everything!
- Cons: None that I can see.
Australian meat pies draw locals to this takeout spot and coffee shop.

It's not a pastie, its not a patty or an empanada, but it's twice as nice. DUB pies are fun filling fast comfort food from Down Under and they are Delicious. I've not been to Gareth's new shop so I can't speak about the decor but I can attest to the quality of DUB pies as I had them on a few occasions back when he was catering before he had the store. You couldn't have a nicer, treat made by a nicer guy. Glad to know he's gone brick and mortar.
- Pros: The food & Proprietor, the fact that he caters and has vegetarian pies
