don't go if you like good service
by thewwdot
never felt compelled to write a restaurant review before but the total lack of customer service at this spot is such a blower. i had to wait an hour for cervice and got nothing but ATTITUDE from the waitress and manager. wasn't even looking for a freebie, just some customer service woulda been nice. i've been about 4-5 times in the last year and the service has gone from bad to atrocious. it seems they have one waitress and she has gotten real big while her customer service has gotten real small. if you feel it would be a privelege to go spend your money with some jerks who don't appreciate it, knock yourself out but otherwise, i'd skip this spot.
- Pros: good cervice, food overall good
- Cons: you'll wait hours for it
My go-to restaurant for a group
by a_brit_in_brooklyn
Never had a bad dish here, but some are better than others. Wine isn't great but cocktail menu is unusual with good Mojitos. Paella is very good and Chicarron as a main course is superb, and survive well as delivery. Salsa Criolla is addictive. Husband is a big fan of the rice pudding.
Often go with a big group and service is fine, never had a problem there, bar staff make a strong drink and the back garden is delightful in the warmer weather. Some nights there is live music and the happy hour is great if you can get there before 7pm.
Cute tableclothes with crayons are fun for kids and drunken adult squiggles.
- Pros: Massive portions, good for groups, cocktails
- Cons: Some menu items only average, choose a fave and stick to it!
Horrible experience
by steeler533
My girlfriend and I went to Coco Roco on a Tuesday night and waiting an hour for food. Despite the food being below average at best they had one waiter for the entire restaurant, and one busboy. Very much like the other woman who reviewed the restaurant, we got not explanation or apology. I understand if someone called in sick or whatever but you need to explain delays rather than simply ignore. At the end of the meal I waited 15 minutes for check which never arrived. I actually borrowed a menu from the table next to me and calculated my own bill and took off. I would never go to this place again other than perhaps to tell them how much of a dump it is.
- Pros: none
- Cons: all
Fine food, really terrible customer service
by mrsdalloway
I don't like just blasting a place for one bad experience, but nothing upsets me like really rude customer service. My boyfriend and I went for weekend brunch. After seating us and taking our drink orders, they let us know the kitchen was running behind despite the fact that the place was half empty, but took our orders anyway. We waited an hour for our food, during which time no one came to check on us or let us know why there was such an extreme delay. When we asked to speak to a manager he refused to offer any discount or even a complimentary drink for the wait. Even more annoyingly, no one apologized or even acknowledged the inconvenience. When it finally arrived, the food was good, but we won't be going back after being treated so poorly .
underrated

I have been to the one on Smith st many times, with friends and with my boyfriend. The food is always good and the service has been excellent. You can't beat the prices for the quality of food and wine. It's a really cute place , good for groups and couples. I definitely recommend it.
- Pros: prices are inexpensive
- Cons: could be cozier
Good brunch deal, though not very consistent
by galynav
When we came here first time for brunch, we were very imressed. You pay $10.50 for the fool brunch. I didn't want alcoholic beverages, so they happily substituted them first time with dessert, and second time with soup (which was excellent!). My husband had a skirt stake and loved it. We came back to the restaurant again next week, but did not like it much. The food and the deal was the same, but, for some reason, it did not taste as well...
- Pros: brunch deal
- Cons: inconsistency
Bad experience for a friend
by jenna84
A friend of mine went to this restaurant for Lunch. Needless to say that after eating his tasty meal (because yes the food is good) a small rodent on four legs fell onto a table from the vent up above. How disgusting is that... not to mention that the rodent just stood there on the table.
This place has good food but they definately to clean it up!
Great Peruvian
by sdb5
The food here is excellent, the sangria is awesome but the service is painfully slow.
It is a cool looking place and if the whether is nice there's a great area out back to sit and eat.
There are large tables available for big groups.
If you are in no rush to get in and out, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.
- Pros: Food, sangria, prices
- Cons: slow service
best mojito!

loved the drinks and and grilled fish. very reasonable , no waiting . and the outdoor yard is a nice touch, great modern decor for the price. I'll be back to try everything on the menu!
Awesome salmon!!
by nycsummergirl
Coco Roco was my first experience with Peruvian food and it was delicious! I've had better Sangira, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. I ordered the salmon and spinach mashed potatoes - amazing! The salmon was absolutely perfect, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and had a very unique flavor. The service, while friendly, was a bit slow and scattered. Our waitress was very nice, but she miscounted the number of orders and we were short one plate - it came out about 10 minutes later, and she was very apologetic. It was a bit difficult getting her attention for more water, and then for the check - even though the restaurant was relatively emply. Regardless, we enjoyed the overall experience and will definitely be returning to sample other menu options!
- Pros: Delicious food, very nice ambience, could easily be a great date restaurant
- Cons: Slow service
