Biscuits and Gravy Brunch excellent!

Went here for Sunday brunch. Was about an hour wait for 2 people at noon/one, which is pretty standard. Coming from the midwest, I am constantly searching for good Biscuits and Gravy and I have finally found my mecca! Biscuits and Gravy was meaty and spicy and just the way I love it. The eggs and chorizo was another treat offered here for Sunday Brunch. The wait and even the commute out of the city are well worth it!

Cute place, tasty food.

After spending a picture perfect day shopping in Williamsburg (one of my new fave places), a friend and I headed into Egg (after looking for Sparky's) based upon the menu and the prices. From beginning to end, it was a very pleasant experience. We were tended to immediately.. she ordered the french press coffee that she loved (was a little disappointed that there were no free refills--guess cuz it wasn't the run of the mill coffee). I ordered the mimosa which I was expecting in the normal small flute and was pleasantly surprised that it was in a wine (almost goblet) sized glass. Great extra was when they brought out the boiled peanuts which I loved from my trips down South. Yummy! We ordered the pate for a starter which was tasty. My friend ordered the french toast which was a bit overdone for her taste but she said was really good. I ordered the country ham, biscuit, fig jelly entree which was good but a bit salty with the cheese and the ham.. was looking for more of a real sweet/salty and the sweet wasn't really there. It was still good. The grits.. not a fan of the grits. I like mine creamy and this was far from creamy. Maggie the waitress was one of the best that I've had. She was a great touch to a good place that I will definitely return to.

Yummy homemade Food; Mostly KInd, Sweet Staff

Its really really good. The eggs are all farm fresh and the baked goods are sooooooo yummy, too. The coffee is really amazing (served in a french press, its strong and robust). The jam is obviouslty homemade and every flavor they have ever offered has been exceptional. The toast is actually one of my favorite parts of the breakfast. It is hearty, buttery and satisfying. You cannot go wrong with the grafton cheddar omelette or the scrambled eggs. I adore the sugared bacon. It is heavenly. The waitresses do vary between down to buisness snotty and sweet and doe eyed pleaser...

• Pros: the eggs (who'd thunk it, huh?), the paper covered tables and crayons, the Jam, one nice waitress that I love
• Cons: one snotty waitress that irritates me, waits on the wknds, hipster asses

worst service EVER

My boyfriend and I wandered over to egg around noon one saturday, and we saw there was a large scribble -ridden piece of paper taped to the door where about 50-100 names written on it. About 3/4 were crossed out, and you wonder how this is even legible to anyone, especially when there are 2 "waitresses" and 2 bussers all deciding who gets seated next. (pssst they don't communicate to each other on who they pick next) We then saw this well thought out restaurant plan in action. A waitress walked around the patio and pretty much whispered the next name on the list. OBVIOUSLY the group is not going to hear this small voiced woman in a hungry crowd of about 15 hipsters. She looked around for about 3 seconds, crossed off the name, and went to the next. Now is this at all reasonable or sane?

After about getting skipped over 3 times, we said something, and one of the waitresses started getting mad at us! After saying a few calm words back and forth, she passively states "you can take your attitude someplace else!"

I'm sorry, but being skipped over 3-4 times, and waiting 2 hours for a brunch that was cold, and tasteless was somehow our fault? If you want a bad brunch experience with extremely rude girls at the helm, by all means, go to egg.

Bring your own salt

Brunch is my favorite meal, period. Sadly, Egg is not the place to get a good one. Slow service, long wait, wobbly chairs, greasy vegetables, bland mushroom gravy, the country ham? dry and tough. Bring your own salt if you have taste buds, otherwise don't bother. However, the coffee was good and I was able to write the next great american novel on the paper tabletop while waiting who knows how long for my food. Very disappointed in ny mag's pick, I wouldn't give this place another try

if you like rude service, this is your place

I'm sorry to say that the previously pleasant experience has been replaced with the rudest experience I've ever had with service. The food I had on my previous trip was decent. However, my friend and I waited for 1/2 hour only to be passed over (mind you we were on the list) by obviously friends of the head waitress. When I previously inquired about the wait I was informed that we were next only to be furthers rebuked. Simply put, with over 14,000 choices abound, it's not worth it.

very disapointed

my boyfriend treated me to breakfast for my birthday at egg. we both had high hopes and were expecting some great souther breakfast favorites. being from texas i was ready to dig into some buttermilk biscuits and gravy. we were seated immediatly but that was where the service stopped. we didn't recieve our food for at least 45 minutes (we didn't order anything special) and we had to ask for more water. when the food finally arrived i was hoping it was way worth the wait, but yet again we were disapointed. everything was super peppery, my side of ham (if you can call it that) looked like the scraps from someone elses leftovers, and the carmalized grapefruit was hot and the size of an orange. maybe we went on a bad day, but i don't think we will return to find out.

Best Biscuits and Gravy Ever

I'm a Southern boy. My mom grew up in West Virginia, and her family hailed from the Deep South for many generations prior. The way I grew up, vegetables were cooked till soggy and seasoned with bacon or hamhock; a picnic wasn't a picnic without fried chicken, homemade slaw, and deviled eggs; and the breakfast of champions was biscuits-n-gravy. More specifically, buttermilk biscuits doused in cream gravy with sausage.

Now, I'm VERY picky with my biscuits-n-gravy. Even back home, I never order this out because no restaurant I've been to makes it half as good as the women in my family. I don't even make it for myself. IMHO, I make the best damn buttermilk biscuits I've ever tasted, but my gravy is lousy and you can't even find the right kind of sausage in my local groceries, so I stick with buttered biscuits on a Saturday morning. I let my mom make the gravy.

It was a moment of desperation that led me to try the biscuits and gravy the first time I visited Egg. I hadn't been back home in way too long, and my wife developed a dairy allergy last year so I don't make many buttermilk biscuits these days. I wasn't paying anyway--a friend was treating--so I figured what the heck, and ordered.

Oh, man, these biscuits and gravy are GOOD! They are honestly the best I've ever had in an eating establishment--any time, any place. I keep going back to Egg, and haven't yet ordered anything else of the menu (but I've tasted from friends and everything else is excellent too).

If you want to try some legitimate southern-style biscuits and gravy, Egg is the place to go. And if you have company from the South, swing by Egg and give them the surprise of their life--they'd never believe NYC gravy could taste so good.

Bummer

Some egg on a big hard biscuit. I have the same problem with these guys as Sparky's (who they share the space with). Slow service. I had to remind them about my order (egg/ sausage sandwich) 15 minutes after ordering it. When it came it was on a thick biscuit, too much biscuit in relation to the amount of good on the inside, over priced. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, but I was not impressed.
