Cool spot

by quagmirenyc

Dana and Alec are the best. Beer bingo on Mondays is a hoot. Good food. Nice spot. They have a fun Karaoke on the weekends.

Bar is great, but won't eat here again.

by citylivin

I'm sad to say that the previously ok food at Ceol has really gotten bad. I think they've cut down on the menu choices, so you'd think what they are focused on making would be good, but it's not. The Shepards Pie is bland and tastes like sloppy joe with packaged mashed potatoes on top. The fries are out of a bag, and the salads look sad. This used to be a standby for decent bar food and sandwiches, but something has changed. I'd still say go to Ceol for an old school crowd, hilarious karaoke, and a good beer selection, but do yourself a favor and eat before you go.

  • Pros: Beer selection, friendly bar staff
  • Cons: Food is pretty bad

Typical Irish bar

by chmpgnrose

Food was average, but served cold. Music extremly loud enough to go deaf. Not enough chairs or tables for large group gatherings. Service for large group parties is adaquate with more than 1 waitress and 2 bus boys. Near mass transit which is a big plus. Your typical Irish cusine.

  • Pros: Near mass transit
  • Cons: Food is served cold

New Favorite Bar!

by 11222

This is a great bar! I've lived in the neighborhood for over a year and can't believe I only just visited Ceol for the first time. I can't say enough positive things. The bartender, Alec, was awesome. He was super friendly, attentive, fun to talk with, and very inviting. The bar is a great Irish bar, big space but very cozy. Prices are good (better than most bars in the area), and the best is the bar food. Probably the best bar food I've had in....ever? The mozzerella sticks are amazing. Fun Irish music, juke box if you want to hear something else. Games behind the bar if you want to play...Overall a really great bar, I can't wait to go back.

  • Pros: Bartender - Alec, BAR FOOD!, atmosphere, friendly
  • Cons: none!

Great craic

by 1kena

Loretta and Samantha have created a wonderful, warm welcoming bar with terrific craic. The live music sessions and great staff always make you feel welcome and wanted. They have truly got the "local" bar ideal down and Noel, the chef, is great. If you are looking for your own personal "cheers" on Smith street this is the place.

Truly Amazing Pub!

by maeve08

This is probably my favorite Irish pub in New York City. My husband and I go here frequently to hear the wonderful acoustic music (often a fiddle and guitar) and to eat their first-rate fish and chips. There are many rooms in this bar, including a garden, each with its own flavor and old-timey atmosphere. The whiskey barrels in the front room make great tables, and the overall atmosphere is truly warm, inviting, and uplifting. Thanks Ceol!!

Best Place in the World!

by asuka03

This is my favorite bar in the whole world, and that is saying a lot! Loretta and Samantha- the owners are the loveliest irish ladies you'll meet. Sean (also Irish) the bartender, is absolutely incredible! Always fun, remembers my drinks, fair prices and great ambiance. Ceol is filled with vintage irish decor, wonderful old photos on the walls, as well as new ones from fun times spent at Ceol. Actual beer barrel tables in the front of the bar. The back it is all wonderfully mismatched chairs and tables with a cozy fireplace.

The food is fantastic! The chocolate cake is my all time favorite, and their fish and chips are fantastic! Great place for a party, and even has a little backyard garden to hang out in. Karaoke on most Saturday nights is a blast!

Ceol is great Craic and warm, funloving people! Who could ask for anything more?

Hot green on the outside and homey on the inside, this Irish pub promises a taste of the Emerald Isle.

by Kara Zuaro

Several nights per week, a traditional Irish band greets visitors in the breezeway of this pub, whose name translates to "music" in Gaelic. Inside, friendly regulars perch on bench seats and rest their pints on tall barrels or settle in at the extra-long bar, which boasts a selection of Irish and domestic brews on tap. Perfectly poured Guinness and boisterous bartenders inspire conversations between strangers, but the back room offers booths and tables for private dining.

Wonderful times~*~

by pumpkinpieman

Everytime I come to Ceol the staff treats me kindly. They serve drinks quick, will talk for a bit and are genuinely pleasant to interact with. The huge room in the back is decorated like an old family room from centuries ago. It makes you feel like you're in another century and the furniture they have is amazing. This place always makes me feel cozy & welcomed.

  • Pros: Nice staff, Ambience, Fast service
