Great for vegetarians

Solid mexican; margaritas can be a bit too sweet at times, but not bad. Love the veggie options, and service has sincerely improved in the past year (nothing to complain about in the past 6 months, and my boyfriend and I go there at least 2x a month). Definitely better than any other mexican I've had in Williamsburg, especially a certain place on Bedford Avenue that A) deleted my negative review and B) was shut down last year and should have stayed closed. Anyway, that's neither here nor there - Vamanos to Chula!

I like this place. The food is good and the owners are nice. It's in a good neighborhood and the cuisine is very good. I used to live in Cali and the Mexican food is just about as good as you're going to get in Williamsburg.

Slowest service ever, the worst instant coffee, tolerable food

The service at Taco Chulo is so unbelievably slow that you can actually age while waiting. Four of us had to wait nearly 45 minutes for our food to come out and they didn't even come out all together. I ordered veggie Taco and it had practically no taste. Is it possible to have Mexican food to be so blend? How do you go wrong with Taco?? I ordered lime pie and coffee. Instant coffee came out first that tasted like brown water. I passed around but no one could drink. It was just offensively bad. How do you go wrong with coffee? And why instant coffee? After waiting for lime pie, I finally gave up and asked for a check. I've been to many restaurants that are a lot busier than Taco Chulo. This is the slowest restaurant I've ever been to. I will never go there again.

• Pros: Your typical Williamsburg ambience - hip and ironic
• Cons: Slowest service, tasteless food, terrible coffee

BEST MEXICAN IN NYC

um san loco isnt mexican food. fresh taco isnt mexican food. being from chicago, a city with one of the highest mexican population in all of the USA, in don't care if you think california has the best mexican chicago does. and i havent seen anything close to it in at least 5 years until i found taco chulo. they make every single thing from scratch, down to the pepper in the shaker is fresh ground in the kitchen. the service is highly improved so disregard past reviews. eat here, and drink here. its casual, its fun, and the owners are some of the smartest nicest women i've ever met. i go to taco chulo a lot. the nachos are no joke.

• Pros: Nachos, intereresting and good cocktails, casual atmosphere
• Cons: it can get very busy but that is where patience comes in

Absolutley Horrendous

I had high hopes when I dined at Taco Chulo, this week. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The burritos are a sloppy mess. I am not sure how this place received a four and half star rating. Needless to say, I will not be back.

Worst.Service.Ever.

The place was empty. EMPTY people! We waited almost an hour for 2 tacos that never arrived, then we walked out. We have never done that. Anyhwere. We used to think the higher prices might eventually do them in.. now we just think it'll be the horrible service and bad attitiude of the wait staff.

Worst service ever

This was an extremely unpleasant dining experience. The place was practically empty but the service was super slow, the waitress was very rude, and the food was over-priced and mediocre at best. I love Mexican food and live nearby, but I'll never go back here again.

Wow...too bad the reviews are true...

I am obsessed with Mexican food and have only lived in the city for a couple of months so I am always looking for new Mex places to try. When I knew I would be in the neighborhood, I searched for places and found Taco Chulo. I read all of the reviews and was a little bit worried...especially since the last few reviews have been really bad regarding service and have been posted recently. I decided to try it anyway and find out for myself.

We walked in the door and were seated immediately and were given menus. Within seconds we were brought water. Our server (who was very nice) came within 5 minutes or so to take our orders. We decided what we were eating as quick as possible so that we could order drinks and food at the same time (just in case). THAT IS WHERE THE GOOD PART ENDS.

It took at least 20 minutes for us to get our drinks. Within that 20 minutes, people sitting at 3 tables around us left because they had not even been acknowledged. The people sitting next to us were considering ordering 2 rounds of drinks at once just in case it took another hour for them to be made. I did order another drink and it didn't take quite as long, but all of the tables around us waited for their drinks for just as long as we did, if not longer.

Since I was expecting the service to be bad from the reviews, I was able to be more patient. If you are not a patient person, do not go here! I do have to say that when we got our burritos...45 MINUTES AFTER WE ORDERED THEM!!!...they were very very good!!! However, I'm not sure what's going on with this place. The food is good, but I have gotten a burrito like that elsewhere and it took 5 minutes to make. It can also get quite expensive if you order a couple of drinks and food. FOOD IS GOOD BUT THE SERVICE IS SERIOUSLY HORRIBLE!! They really need to get it together. If the reiews improve, I'll go back, but for now...not worth it.

Service? What Service?

This place has the worst service. I'm never going back. After waiting for 30 minutes on a round of drinks. I let the floor manager know the drinks took quite awhile. Her response "I'm not your waitress"

I also need to mention here, the floor manager is also a co-owner. Get it together ladies, your people skills are pathetic. My friend had to get up and find the waitress to place her order. The bartender who was so slammed was outside smoking leaving no one behind the bar. It's Williamsburg on a weekend... maybe more than one person behind the bar?

The same floor manager/owner saw it fit to add a gratuity to my bill.
