I've been going to Catty's for about three years. Over the last six or so months I have noticed a major shift in the employees and their "lack of courtesy". Better put, their rude, self-important, borderline abusive attitudes. . I used to enjoy chatting with the bartenders and getting to know the regulars etc. However, each and EVERY time I go back now, I am basically HARRASSED by the door people before I get in. For example, I remember complimenting one of their shirts, and I get the equivalent of "move it along, Buddy.." (So much for me being nice and using the golden rule!!) Also, there is a worker by the door to the patio who likes to constantly remind people to shush... Feels as if the customers are being babysat. I still have faith in this place though, and all of this BS makes me a little worried. I have made complaints to one of my friends who bartends there. She said they have heard a lot of complaints lately. Well, Then...Why hasnt anything been done to stop these rude employees?? It's sad to see a great bar (location, size etc) potentially be ruined by lack of respect and absolute rudeness of a few particular employees.

i went to cattyshack with a straight friend a frisky friday and it was great! it felt like we were the only blonde busty femmes there but everyone treated us respectfully and we got a lot of attention. we didn't fit in, but we were allowed to be there too. it could be a great pick up place if you are femme and looking for a butch or bossy person. the upper level was kind of dead - seemed like more couples there. the dancefloor on the bottom was crowded and the music was ok. restrooms were pretty decent.
Pros: friendly, the dancefloor
Cons: stereotypical, didn't see any feminist girls if you know what i mean

I'm a transgendered F to M from Miami, Fla and I recently vacationed in NYC...I was so excited, had never been to The Big Apple...but most of all I could not WAIT to take the M train to Park Slope (?) for a fun night on the town with my people @ Cattyshack, a club I had heard so much about. So me and my pals made the trek all the way from Hell's Kitchen one rainy Saturday evening and were PSYCHED when we got an eyeful of the exterior. The place is HUGE (NOTE: Most girlbars are dank, dismal holes-in-the-wall)! Suh-weet! So here we go, caught some homophobic flack on the M but it's all good, this is Brooklyn after all...we're all grins, we're lookin' good, up for meeting and greeting...when WHOA! MORE FLACK FROM THE BEASTS WORKING THE DOOR! I am a 42 year old healthchare professional and I'm being treated like a punk from the projects!!! Why?! Because I'm a Cubano with good skin and lustrous, nourished youthful-looking hair?:) I kid, I kid but these folks were rude and vaguely sexist. Sorry if I'm a gentleman, ladies. If you can't handle it, maybe customer service just isn't for you. So... $5 cover charge. The music on the first level is all harsh, LOUD gangsta rap and the vibe is cold so we ask the bartender how we can get upstairs. The bartender can't hear us because the music is too loud and the audio quality is grating so we ask again and all we get is an eye-roll and fake-nice brush off. We finally find the stairs and up we go. We belly up to the bar 'cuz there's only a handful of anti-social, overserved bridge-and-tunnel types staring blankly at either of the two televisions. DJ Grampa Walton plays the same old tired 80's garbage everyone hears everywhere. DJ GW thinks Pebbles is a genius, apparently. Cleo, the snotty, ultra slow barkeep took her own sweet time getting around to serving ANYBODY because she was too busy chatting with the barback. Our cocktails were served in plastic and were watery: The vibe was sad and dark so we left.

This place is the worst! After taking the subway for 45 minutes to get there,we were confronted by the rudest door 'person' ever! I don't know if it was a man or not, but 'it' turned us off right away. Looked slow inside and they wanted a cover! Ridiculous! There are much better spots in Brooklyn to go to!
Pros: none!
Cons: Bad attitude! Expen$$ive!!

First of all this is not the place to go if there is an event happening in Brooklyn b/c they will jack up the cover with no problem. Brooklyn pride cover was $20, that's just ridiculous. The people that work the door are nasty and rude. I've been there several times with friends and each time I have been extremely disappointed with the music. Not a place I will be going back to!
Pros: Outside patio to smoke
Cons: patio closes early

I've heard of the bar so when I was walking by one night with a few friends, I encouraged them to go. We got to the door where we were brusquely asked for I.D. and, having forgotten mine, was going to go back to get it until one of the door people gave me one of those mistrusting "suuure you're 21" looks and answered my questions about how late they were open with close-to guffaws. 21 or not (and I'm 28) I don't really care to explore this- from what I've heard- "hit-or-miss" spot when there are others with much better courtesy in the world.

Cattyshack feels either like a Midwestern Sorority at a junior college or a seasonal club somewhere on the Jersey Shore. The place is really not designed for comfort or with any sense of style: cheap fixtures and furnishings, hard seating and plastic cups for your $10 cocktails. Some of the staff is super friendly, but others need some polishing. The other night a few of us stopped over for a quick after dinner drink. Being more than twice the legal drinking age I didn't bother to have my id, but I was asked for one at the door anyway. I understand that bars have to be very careful with ids in this city, and I was a little flattered that I was carded on the night of my birthday, so I walked to my nearby home and got my id. The door person did not thank me for being cooperative, she looked at my id and saw that it was my birthday, but didn't say anything and then still charged me $5 just to get in. I've worked around several NYC bars and restaurants and all of them would've either offered me free admission or a drink, but at Cattyshack I didn't even get a nod. Enough about poor old me, but this place definitely needs to learn a few things.
Pros: great location
Cons: spotty service, poor design

Yes, Cattyshack is in Brooklyn but you've got to make the trip IF you want to hit the best girl club in New York. Not just one night, but 7 days a week! It has somehow avoided being victim to the cliche "jack of all trades, master of none" and successfully provides most everything to everyone. I love that the sporty ones have their big screens and football, drinkers have their great specials, smokers have their deck (where they can actually drink too!), Lady-lovers have hot dancers, and the scenesters of every type have frequent events that will continue to take this new space to the next level. I just can't wait for it to keep getting better as more people discover this place and fill in any gaps in an already diverse crowd. (I swear I don't work for them! I just dig this place THAT much)
Pros: Roomy, versatile, Multiple DJs, Diverse crowd
