Great dinner, great service

by TimQMills

The place is pretty expensive, but the food was incredible. Definitely some generous portions. My wife easily got 2 meals out of her chicken marsala, which came with chunks of sausage, and I could have got 2 out of my hanger steak, which was served over some delicious form of chunky mashed potatoes, but I never leave any steak on the plate ;-) We split an appetizer, had 1 glass of wine and an entree each and it came to around $100 including tip, however I knocked it down to $75 including tip with a gift certificate from Restaurant(dot)com. The manager of the place was a great guy. The server gave him our certificate when we sat down and when he handed us the check it wasn't applied, but the manager was standing at the bar nearby and came over and took care of everything. The thing I appreciated most is that they add 20% tip to the pre-discounted total as part of the deal, so he did that himself and then wrote it in on my credit card slip before he gave it to me leaving no confusion for myself or the server. I'd give it a go if you want to try something new.

  • Pros: Generous portions, delicious food, nice staff
  • Cons: Pricey

One of the Best in Park Slope!

by bouncingsoul66

While it's a little on the expensive side, Sette serves upscale authentic Italian bistro cuisine in a warm, yet swanky setting.

Everyone on here has commented that the service was sub par, but my experience was to the contrary, and I visited on a busy Saturday night.

The arugala, proschuitto, and fresh mozzerella salad was to die for, as well as the beef tip entree served with asparagus and creamy homemade mashed potatoes.

  • Pros: ambience, atmosphere, food, patio
  • Cons: high prices

Nice setting, but bland and boring food

by ktobiassen

The outdoor patio is great in the summertime, but, unfortunately, for what is supposed to be an upscale place, the food here is just not up to snuff. It wasn't bad food, but not memorable enough for me to describe in detail either. Fairly bland. Nice wines, though.

  • Pros: nice wines, nice patio and decor
  • Cons: too pricey for such average food

JUST TERRIBLE

by Ken18

Went a few weeks ago with my Lady and mom for Sunday brunch. The first nice spring day of the year. First time there and figured it would be a treat on top of walking around the neighborhood. The price fix sign outside of $16 doesn't tell the real story. Firstly the coffee (both reg and decaf) was cold and not fresh. The bread basket or sour basket was ugh. Served with all you can drink bloody's and some mombo drink. Only my lady drinks (so their ahead on this one) but guess what - after only two drinks they ran out of mix. I guess if the 3 of us wanted one we would have to choose who wouldn't get one. The meal itself wasn't half bad. Atmosphere is ok. But hold on there's more. The $16 is really $18 as about all the brunch choices are an additional $2. So after all the bill with tip was over $65..I always tip no matter (the waitress was so so). Alot of $$ for a sh-tty meal. Keep away on Sunday..

  • Pros: not at all
  • Cons: Many

Mediocre at best

by catula

We went to Sette for their Valentine's prix fix, which to be fair can be treacherous at even the best restaurant. Here's what happened. They lost our reservation, so we were sat close to the door, which does not have one of those winter insulation things, so it was freezing. As people filled in to the tables around us, they started to receive drinks and appetizers. Our waitress had not come to us yet. When she did, we ordered two appetizers. The asparagus "fondue" was limp, overcooked asparagus in a non-descript, lukewarm bottled cheese-like sauce. The water-cress salad was dressed in same tasteless sauce. The entree, spaghettini frutti de mar was actually decent, although the shrimp and calamari were overcooked in mine and it was sorely lacking for the parmesan cheese which made its way to other tables but not ours. The dessert, profiterole, consisted of stale, tiny, un-filled (!) profiterole shells. Maybe they ran out of the filling? Fortunately, cocoa bar is right across the street and we got our sugar fix there. Definitely won't make this a neighborhood favorite.

  • Pros: Setting, wine list
  • Cons: food, service

Great brunch!

by kriscress

I just went to Sette today and wanted to spread the word about this great spot. I don't know how authentic the food is - mostly because there weren't a ton of Italian choices on the pre-fixe brunch menu - but the taste and quality were great.

I made reservations a couple days in advance and when my friend and I arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly and inviting host. We were seated and waited on immediately. The food came out quickly, was delicious, and the unlimited cocktails kept on flowing. I had the mixed greens and vegetarian omelette - both great.

The atmosphere is warm and cozy and even though the place was packed, each table has its own space and breathing room.

Plus - $16 for a yummy brunch and unlimited drinks is great deal, even for Park Slope!

  • Pros: Decent value, good food, great service
  • Cons: A little crowded, so reservations are recommended

Nice Atmospher. Sub Par Service, bad brunch food.

by sm619

I went once on recommendation and a second time to give the food the benefit of the doubt. I did go for brunch both times, so there is a chance that the dinner food is better. The brunch food was dry and less than tasty. I had the eggs benedict, which was no doubt made with fake eggs in the hollandaise. Ick! My friend had a pannini, which he didn't like very much either. The beet salad was delightful though, and so were the drinks, which are unlimited with the $16-$18 brunch special. Normally I would consider this a bargain, but since the food was terrible, it was more like paying $16 for the drinks (still possibly a bargain). The restaurant is beautiful. The service is not so good. I waited over 10 minutes just for water...then I didn't even get a menu. When I did, I had to flag down a bus boy after waiting an additional 10 minutes to order. Maybe I will go back some time for drinks since the atmosphere is so nice.

  • Pros: The drinks served with the brunch special are excellent!!!
  • Cons: The food was not very good. Neither was the service.

Really great, authentic Italian

by Christiana01

I'd been meaning to try Sette for ages, and finally went for dinner. Very lovely rustic-yet-modern interior with a very friendly staff and a great ambiance. The menu is very authentic italian, and the description of the specials absolutely blew me away. One of those places where you spend forever deciding between 10 things because everything sounds delicious. Tons of great-priced wine choices. Sette is on par with Mario Batali's "Lupa" or "Noodle Pudding". A good date place - intimate and quiet enough for good conversation. 2 entrees and wine for 2 + tip was about $60, so it is a little pricey. One of my new favorites in the nabe.

  • Pros: Fantastic food, wine prices, ambiance

Not the typical generic Italian

by dchisena

Have gone twice and always had an above par experience. The wine list is to be taken advantage of, the sea scallop appetiser was incredible and the pappardelle with oxtail was out of this world. My girlfriend's seafood risotto was very well done. The service was fantastic and professional. And the prices are reasonable. You won't get the boring American Italian food here. This is what I know as Italian food, although this I would consider typical of the kitchen in regions from Emilia-Romagna to Lazio.

  • Pros: Romantic, great food and wine at great price
  • Cons: Small portions, occasional loud & annoying customers
