Example: great place for good bread

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Great food/drinks, Horrible service
by sareduf
I have to say I keep going back to this place. The elote is great, prices are reasonable and the mojitos are delicious. However, the service is really bad! They are rarely friendly, don't ever check back to see how the food is, don't refill waters, and then you end up waiting forever for your check. We go back for the food but every time are disappointed by the service.
- Pros: Great food and mojitos
- Cons: service is really crappy
Horrible Service - Bad Staff
by Lucifer123454
Stood at the bar for at least 20 minutes as other tables were seated - reservations need not apply they won't honor them. Added 2 entrees to our bill with scribbled handwriting hoping we wouldn't notice. No water refills - rude and condescending staff that would rather watch the projection TV than help patrons.
Bland food but GREAT drinks
by brooklynmommy
It was disappointing that the flavor of the food didn't match the quality of the drinks. I must say the bartender made the best Mojitos and best Pina Colada I've ever had. The ingredients were of obvious quality and freshness. Maybe it was just the gift of that bartender because when the food came, I found myself using quite a bit of salt to make up for the bland taste of the food. Cafe Habana in Brooklyn when its open has way better food.
- Pros: The Mojitos and Pina Coladas
- Cons: The food
review your bill closely!!
by szigetre
so the food was less than mediocre (cold eggs, bland. . .) and the service is pathetic (really) -but the real problem here is that they state on the menu they will charge 20% gratuity for parties of six or more. Fine. However, we were a party of four and they charged more than 20% and it was not clear they were charging us a gratuity. We would have tipped an additonal 20% had we not questioned the charge. . .(When we questioned it the waitrees said ok leave whatever you want. I said that is not the point (honesty?) and we went through that a few times-either she is playing dumb or really doesn't get it.
Also, they don't accept credit crads. Fine. But then at least put the name of the establishment on the bill- some folks need to submit receipts. . .
Needless to say I will not be going back. I hope they clean up their act for everyone else.
- Cons: are they trying to rip you off? Sketchy bill.
Worst indegestion of my life
by laura3laura
Went there for the third time last weekend. The first two times were disappointing: uninspired dishes, rather bland. I've had yet to find a dish truly worth its (albeit very inexpensive) price. There's not a single person working the service area who's actually from Cuban - the cooks are purported to be, but somehow I doubt it. And if you've ever had a good caipirinha or pina colada in your life, you'll soon realize that there's not any good ones to be found here. But what's put the place on my "never again" list was last weekend's quesadilla - a couple shreds of chicken with cheese and slimy, gummy onions, a side garbanzo bean salad that tasted like the smell of a just-opened can of garbanzos. That would have been tolerable - but not the terrible indigestion afterwards. Maybe it was a mistake to mix the dish with a pina colada in the first place, I don't know. All I know is, I would never recommend the place, and you won't find me there again.
- Pros: cute decor
- Cons: nothing worth eating
Really Good
by mintsnapple524
The food here is delicious and it comes quick. I was served the best cuban sandwich that I've had in a really looooong time!
- Pros: the food! the quality! the price!
- Cons: cramped tables, loud music
excellent pulled pork and mojitos
by schuy7
This place is quite small, but decently comfortable. The food I cannot attest to much; I always get one of the pulled pork dishes, but there's very little reason to get anything else. Wash it all down with mojitos or a nice imported beer.
- Pros: delicious
- Cons: small space
Service has improved
by nycsavant
I boycotted this place for a while since every time I went, regardless of whether the restaurant was packed or nearly empty, the service was terrible. My water glass went unfilled for almost the whole meal, food took forever to arrive, and sometimes we received chips and salsa while other times we inexplicably did not. Recently though, I gave it another shot, and fortunately they seem to have stepped up their game and gotten back on the ball. The food here is great - always fresh, hot and you can't find a better value on Smith Street than the medianoche Cuban sandwich with a side of maduros (rounding out to about $7). The stuffed poblanos with seafood are great, as are most of the chicken dishes, the ropa vieja and the shrimp and avocado salad. I'm glad to report they've ironed out the service kinks (knock on wood) and I look forward to returning sometime soon.
- Pros: Wonderful Food, Festive Space, Great Value
- Cons: Sometimes Spotty Service, Crowding
Great food! A bit noisy but it's Cuban, what do you expect!!!
by etincelle
I am a local restaurant owner. I have always had great food at Cafe Cubana and I highly recommend it! The chicken soup is superb and the Cuban sandwich is the best in town!
Keep up the good work!
