Love this place and its owner

by cityfoodgal

We will be having our small wedding party here in October and as such have visited TWB a few times. The owner has been more than accommodating to us and has really ensured that we have enjoyed ourselves each time we've stopped by. The people we've met at the bar have been really friendly and interesting as well. TWB has a nice selection of wines (and even some good microbrews too!) and the mac and cheese is outstanding. While the space is a bit small (like I said, small wedding), it is a perfect destination for a small group or a date. Enjoy!

  • Pros: Nice wine selection, excellent food, great staff
  • Cons: ?

nice cozy neighborhood spot

by madmax64

We go there from time to time to enjoy a glass from their seasonal wine list, not to mention their excellent samplers of cheese (get two cheeses for two people, there will be plenty to share, accompanied by bred). It's right next door to a nice and romantic Italian restaurant, Peperoncino, but that's another review...

the reviewer who basically complained about the stemware....um...get over yourself. Yes I dont liek the glasses either and total is a bit pricey, but it is also a quality place with quality products and quality staff. It's also got a really pleasant decor and vibe. It is for a special occasion for most people, but could be a could everyday haunt for the financially blessed

lame

by critique751

this place appeals to people who say things like "ubergroovytastey."

the wine list is lacking, the decor predictable and boring, the music too loud, and often just bad.

AND! And this is a serious concern-- no stemware! They charge 12 bucks for a glass of wine served in a juice glass! I get the whole "wine isn't just for the eilte" thing, as though glasses with stems are snobbish. That's fine and good-- provided the PRICE of the wine reflects such a philosophy. Besides, stems aren's snobbish-- they do , in fact, serve a function-- something the owner of a wine bar ought to realize and value more than A) "sleek" and modern glass design and B) some half-baked notion about "wine for the commoner."

Oh. And many of the other patrons are just annoying to be near.

Wine bar with a comfortable and intimate setting.

by pedrokim

I will admit, you don't find a place this everyday. If I did, then I would be broke. This place seems overshadowed since it's next to a big Italian restaurant. We went on a Friday night around 8pm and it was empty (one couple was there). Within an hour, new people poured in and the bar started to fill quickly. We sat at the bar and ordered some red wine. The New Zealand Pinot Noir was disappointing, while the Sonoma Pinot Noir, Cotes du Rhone, Lagren were great! The crayfish etoufee was spicy yet tasty and my girlfriend loved the cheese. I would avoid the smoked trout with creme fraiche; it tasted terrible. Overall, I enjoyed the romantic setting and the wine. I will return to this cool place.

  • Pros: great red wine, intimate atmosphere, service
  • Cons: n/a

Not So Total

by flexichick

Went there for the first time the Saturday after NYE. Ordered 2 glasses of a red wine - they were out of it (only have about 10 reds on the wine menu). Chose 2 others. Went back for next round, they were out of the one we just had.

Went next door to eat. Came back. Ordered 3rd choice of wine. Out of it. 4th Choice.....out of it too. Ridiculous! They blamed it on New Year's Eve, but it was almost a week later! Plus, we had a cheese plate and ended up having a total of 4-5 glasses each. You'd think that after all of that hassle, they'd at least buy a glass for us (we were being pretty tolerant)? Nope.

With all of the places to chose from, I won't be likely to return.

  • Pros: Cheese, atmosphere
  • Cons: out of stock, staff

The best wine in Brooklyn

by doraphilia

I love Total. Despite how elegant it is, and how great the wine selection and how knowledgable the staff is, Total Wine Bar is not snobby or overpriced. On the contrary, everyone who works there is so warm and welcoming. The setup is very inviting for a nice private conversation, while also opening the place up for more social interactions. It's a really lovely place all around and I highly recommend it.

  • Pros: great wine, great staff, decor

My favorite hangout in the Slope

by marcantel

Everything here is great! The wine (and the descriptions), the cheese (from Blue Apron on Union) and the little edibles. It fills up at times, but the banquette seating along the wall is great if you're lucky to get a spot. It's such a comfortable, no attitude place. Perfect for a girls' night out or a date.

UberGroovyTasty!

by phoenixstar

This place is genius! As I walked in I was met with bossa nova and the smartest winelist in Brooklyn. Accurate descriptions for the wine novice, yet smart enough not to offend readers of Wine Spectator.

Adam is a wonderfully equipped hostess (he waved to me like he knew me as I walked thru the door) and is unpretentious with his offerings of homemade macaroni and cheese and yummy cheese plates.

Dont walk by here without stopping for an hour or so and a few tastings of wine. It's a true Brooklyn gem.

  • Pros: Great Wines & Food, Beautiful Lightings, Wines by the glass
  • Cons: , nothing, nothing

This well-stocked Park Slope wine bar keeps a relaxed Brooklyn spirit.

by Erin Behan

In Short
Slope wine lovers gather round the small U-shaped bar to toast to the neighborhood's thriving foodie culture. Mac and cheese, vegan chili and lamb meatballs complement the more than 20 seasonal wines by the glass--the Medici Ermete Lambrusco is popular year-round--and interesting beer choices such as the organic Pinkus-Miller hefeweizen. Communal bench seating around small milky-glass covered tables offer additional lounging options. The distinctive light-colored wood bar was handmade from ash recovered in Louisiana.
