Friendliest Bar in Town
by lilikaki
If you are looking to go somewhere cmpletely unpretencious, comfortable and want a guaranteed good time this is the place. The drinks are cheap and simple and the people are there to chat and have a good time. There is no sleaze factor, no pick up joint feel to this place just a nice welcoming vibe. It's a plus if you like country music but even if you don't you will enjoy yourself. I've taken friends who are not country music fans here and we all had a blast. The music is never too loud so you can't talk and they have pool and a backyard to hang out in as well.
- Pros: People, Drinks, Music, Outdoors
- Cons: None
Great locals bar -- and dog friendly!
by davidw03
Moonshine is unspoiled Brooklyn. Cheap beer, a BBQ grill and dog friendly -- what more can you ask for? Friendly bartenders and an interesting crowd keep this out of the way spot top of mind for us. And the remote location ensures it'll stay that way.
- Pros: Cheap beer, great jukebox, dog friendly, outdoor area, free peanuts
- Cons: Clientele can get a little iffy late at night
This comfy, low-budget haunt satisfies a hankerin' for the honky tonk blues.

The Scene
This homey, wood-paneled dive looks like it was airlifted from a sleepy Southern town and plopped down upon Brooklyn's outer reaches. A friendly bartender offers some of the cheapest brews in the city, and the liquor cabinet is stocked for shots. A pair of bulldogs patrol the joint and an old-fashioned Pabst plaque suggests to the mostly male clientele, "Next time, bring your wife."
The Draw
If you come to Moonshine often enough, everybody knows your name--or at least can match your smile to a Polaroid picture tacked to the frequent customers wall. Regulars shoot pool or animated deer (on the Buck Hunter game), and choose their favorite Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Jr., or Replacements tunes on a stellar country-rock jukebox. Unless a local bluegrass band is stopping by, the upright piano is open to amateurs and the backyard barbecue has a BYOM policy (Bring Your Own Meat).
comfortable, fun bar

This is a great neighborhood bar. The beers are cheap, the staff is friendly, and there's a pretty big patio out back for when the weather's nice. $5 gets you a bucket of PBRs! It's a little bit of a hike from the subway, but that's probably one of the things that lets it keep that neighborhood feel.
- Pros: cheap drinks, friendly crowd
- Cons: kind of far from the subway
Bourbon in Brooklyn
by mommakitty
Possibly the best bourbon selection all of Brooklyn, this place welcomes you with open arms (and a scoop of peanuts). No pretense, just good ole honkey tonk. Old longshoreman bar that was rediscovered by new owner and brought back to life. Zaps potato chips from Louisiana to help soak up the suds just in case the peanuts don't do it for you. Cheap buckets of beer.
- Pros: bourbon, cheap beer, bulldogs
- Cons: can get noisy
best bartender ever!!!
by whiskeypissed
Everything about this place rules....cheap beer, pool table, great outside garden, great juke. AND, the coolest bartender in years! A girl w/ red curly hair, can't remember her name, made me & my BF feel super comfortable. She's attentive without being pushy, and a great conversationalist, super easy to talk to. Perfect, perfect, perfect! Sometimes the owner brings his cute bulldogs in! Find this place, and this bartender (and tip her well, your $$ will never be better spent!), before the hipsters do!
- Pros: great bartender, great service, cheap drinks
THIS PLACE IS FUN!
by brooklyngirl28
Everyone here is really nice. The bartenders, the owners, the atmosphere, ms. pacman. It may be far away but it's a lovely place to spend your time. The place has all the extra special things you love in a bar though: outside space, pretty bar, flat screened tv, drink specials, great jukebox, fun games. no line for the bathrooms....
love it. you should too.
- Pros: atmosphere, company, beer specials
