I Was Discriminated Against at Rope Bar. F - I am extremely appalled by the way my friends and I were treated upon entering the Rope bar. The female bartender who was working the late night shift on the night we went, was unbelievably rude and discriminatory.

Long story short - the bartender ended up calling my friend a "b*tch" and refused to service us for no apparent reason. My friends and I all reacted in a calm and non-confrontational manner and left the bar in utter disgust and awe. We had done nothing to deserve to be treated in such a way.

I strongly believe that my friends and I were discriminated against by this bartender, as we were the only black patrons at the bar when this incident occurred. I can think of no other reason why she treated us so horribly and refused to service us other than the fact that we were black.

I am seriously considering filing a civil suit against the Rope Bar for racial and age discrimination.

Red paint warms the walls and exposed brick peeks out from cracked plaster, giving the space an Old-World feel. A small scrawl on the bathroom wall reads, "I hate hipsters." Ironic or not, it probably won't get washed off the graffiti-friendly stall. After all, sarcasm reigns at indie-rock bars and the jukebox is a hipster magnet, featuring classics like Crazy Horse and the Replacements, along with up-to-the-minute indie-rock artists, from Modest Mouse to My Morning Jacket.

The Draw
As rents escalate, Brooklyn's low-budget music-minded set gets pushed deeper into the borough's depths and away from their favorite bars, like Boat in Carroll Gardens and Great Lakes in Park Slope. Keeping in tune with its nautical namesakes, Rope offers a fine selection of booze, tap beer and bottles for inhabitants of the still-affordable Clinton Hill neighborhood, and enough cheap Pabst and well-worn couches to accommodate Pratt students who wander over from campus.…
