Good place for a casual yet nice dinner

by juanalaloca7

My boyfriend and I went to dinner at around 8pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was packed, so we ate at the bar. The bartender didn't carry a huge personality but was nice and efficient enough. The beer choices were varied and the bartender seemed knowledgeable about the subject. We got pork dumplings to start which were nicely presented and tasty. We order salmon for dinner and the presentation was definitely lacking but the taste was good. Overall, I thought the prices (it was $63 for 3 drinks, two apps, and one dinner) matched the quality. I was happy with the experience and would go back again.

Neo-Nazi bouncer, etc.

by brooklynobserver

This place was horrible. First, the bouncer was proudly showing off his neo-nazi tattoos. Second, the bartender and some of the other staff had this creepy, paranoid , and shifty vibe which made me think we had stumbled into a coke bar where the dealers had given the staff coke to sell there. Of the four of us, my wife and I have only lived in Park Slope for the last five years, but we have lived here long enough to go to nearly ever bar in the neighborhood, and this one is by far the worst. I know that some folks on union have been complaining about Union Hall, but I have a feeling that this place might be much more of a problem.

  • Pros: Their beer tasted normal
  • Cons: Seems like a coke bar, bouncer had neo-nazi tattoos

Avoid

by milesthecat

Lousy service, awful bartenders. Crowd is a bunch of losers. No air and food was terrible. So many other places to go to. Avoid this place at all costs. Funny thing is the 5 star review from tommigirl is from the owner! How desperate they must be. Place should be closed down.

This Bar is horrible

by vausmus51

I am a native Brooklyn Girl who used to enjoy this bar very much until all the idiot Red Socks fans started hanging out there as well as the coke dealers. Go back to your ghettos and your own home town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bartenders are cool, the food is greasy, they never have much of a selection so I just do not go there anymore. Besides you may end up with one of the million fruit flies in your drink.

  • Pros: nice bartenders
  • Cons: everything

Good bar, great food, great games, awesome people and fun times, oh yeah and booze....

by gobama08

When I think of a Park Slope bar I think of a place with good people and good vibes. If you want that then the Lighthouse is the place to go. You have hysterical day bartenders and cool night bartenders. The night I went in, the bartender Shamus gave me a 'buyback' I have never heard of such a thing. However for a trip into Brooklyn the lighthouse is worth it. Loaded with Red Sox and Mets fans it has a sports bar-esque quality without all of that jock-ish vibe and free of Yankees fan except for this guy that claims to be the manager. Big Buck Hunter and a dart board are close to the bar, good if you're into that sort of thing. Either way I recommend this bar to anyone stopping by Park Slope.

  • Pros: Good beer selection
  • Cons: They seem to be out of beer

Avoid at all costs

by bklynpooh

I don't know that this place is even worth writing 100 characters about, so I will just say this: Don't. Park Slope has an abundance of good places. This is NOT one of them.

  • Pros: Huh?
  • Cons: You name it!

Laidback neighborhood bar draws kind of a mixed crowd of b-boy wannabe's and preppie types. Buy backs are a little infrequent (it took 5 rounds of 2 beers apiece to get one, and we were only given 1 freebie). Menu is average and the smart alecky humor that they include isn't really funny. They have a decent back space with a pool table although the night that we were there, no one was playing and people were just leaning against. Prices are reasonable ($4 for a bottle of Coors Light). Good for watching games as they have the various packages. Just average, other options in the neighborhood that are preferable.

Poor Service A Problem

by il2nyc

This is a neighborhood bar I really want to like, as it's close to my apartment and usually not overly-crowded. The interior is nice and they do have a decent selection of beers. Unfortunately, service has been a repeated issue here. Bartenders aren't always attentive to the non-regulars and can come off as fairly rude.

Also, they promote the fact they have "all the games", yet oddly I've seen them turn down quite a few requests, saying the game isn't "big" enough to put on one of their 6-7 TVs...even when the place is half empty. You'd expect a little more hospitality from a place that wants to be a neighborhood bar.

I've left with a bad taste in my mouth one too many times to return at this point. Too many other good options in Park Slope that foster a much-friendlier atmosphere and appreciate ALL of their customers.

  • Pros: Not too crowded, decent selection of beer
  • Cons: Bad service

Lousy bartenders and loserly locals

by dickymcdick3

Feel like being talked down to as if you were an infant? Then head on over to Lighthouse Tavern where you'll meet a bunch of self-important aging hipsters (some w/baby strollers) who do nothing but whine about the changing neighborhood. Female bartender is the worse excuse of a drink server I've ever seen. Pass on it and go down to Great Lakes instead (or O'Connor's up the street).

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: everything

easy going neighborhood joint

by kdd18

This is the place to be any night of the week. Simplicity done best. The burgers are some of the best in the city, coupled with an awesome selection of beers both on tap and bottled you have the choise of a traditional bar setting, booths or the garden (and its heated). The potential for 4 different games at one time, pool (good luck if you play the owners) or a discussion on whatever with whoever. I have never left this place without a smile plastered accross my face. Cheers guys you rock.

  • Pros: easy to get to, price is good, service is great.
  • Cons: not enough couches
