Disappointment
by echalon
Tried to visit Layla today after reading a piece in a magazine some time ago. Double-checked the opening times on their website and planned visit accordingly (- was day-tripping from Philadelphia so didn't want to waste time). Got there to find the lights on, people obviously inside but door locked. Opening times posted on the door confirmed that they were supposedly open. Went around the corner for a coffee and tried again an hour later. This time, door opened. Three women looked at me as if I had just barged into a private home. I asked if they were open and one of them told me rather abruptly that they were closed as they were preparing for their sale - they seemed affronted that I had opened the door. What a shame - the pillows in the window looked gorgeous and I'm sure I would have spent some money there if they had been open and customer-friendly. Someone needs to decide whether they are running a shop or a private salon.
- Cons: Disdain for customer
such a shame

i shopped here three times before for my wife.Amazing exotic jewellery collected from far east.Everything is really expensive but it worths it.The owner herself picks them up with taste.I wish i could recommend this place but everytime i face an attitude to myself or witness to someone else.Thats correct the owner is a total snob:( The last time i was there i totally swear to never go back.
Great store, great owner

Shopping for my wife has never been easier. Everything in Layla is absolutlely exquisite. The owner is extremely helpful (and very nice - previous reviewer's comments notwithstanding), and she takes personal interest in what she sells because it is she who goes to exotic and remote parts of the world for her items, spending time to learn as much as she can about each item. It is she who carefully crafts many of the precious stones into the beautiful jewelry she sells. Tiffany & Co. used to be my "go-to", and I'll still go there. But when I'm looking for something special, Layla is definitely the place. I highly recommend.
- Pros: A unique store with exquisite items.
Beautiful Things, Ugly Service
by ces76
The objects in Layla are absolutely beautiful...this is where to go to purchase very expensive, stunning pillows and throws. HOWEVER, the person who runs/owns the store gave me perhaps one of the worst customer services I've ever received. I never write these types of reviews, but I was literally stunned by her rudeness, her lack of concern, and her disdain for inquiries. We've all had bad days, but to project your feelings to a customer in the competive Brooklyn retail arena is slightly...well, ill-conceived.
I regularly shop in very high end stores on 5th Avenue, SoHo, the Meatpacking Area...all districts you would expect horrible and snooty customer service, but I've been fine every time...until I walked into Layla.
Save your money and purchase your home decor at other places in the area that will offer better bang for the buck...without insults.
- Pros: stunning products
- Cons: horrible service
