Crazy owner and expensive

by JaneReady

First, I wanted to go to a restaurant where i could just relax. Not the best place to go! the owner there is so crazy and talks so much. He talks and talks and talks you can't even get a word in to tell him to F*ck Off! You can't even enjoy the food without him talking and talking about himself, restaurant, food, etc. The food was mediocre for the price i paid and to add to the fact, i couldn't even relax and have time to myself. Worst place ever! Neurotic owner and expenisve food ! i rather eat cheap mediocre food and not have a crazy person hovering over me every minute.

  • Pros: can't think of any
  • Cons: crazy owner

Great food!

by bluepersuasion

I've been looking for good couscous since I first fell in love with it in France. And now I've found it here in my own neighborhood. Support your local restauranteurs! It's affordable and excellent!

  • Pros: Great Food
  • Cons: I was too full to try desert

Amazing Food

by fbmyeager

I live in the neighborhood and have been here half a dozen times, even delivery once or twice. The food is really incredible. I love the hummus and the vegetable cigar appetizers. I always get the Maison CousCous vegetarian because I love it. But my boyfriend, and our friends have tried other entrees and tagines and no one has been disappointed yet. I have never gotten around to dessert because we have always been too full by that time, but the sweet mint tea is perfect after a filling meal.

The service is interesting to say the least. Sometimes overly chatty, sometimes a little pushy but always competent. One time he was pushing a wine on us that we clearly didn't want when we had brought our own (the restaurant was originally BYOB). Another time my friend had been very clear about preferring chicken and got lamb instead. I think this was intentional because the waiter seemed to be pushing the lamb. I would have sent it back, but my friend didn't and he did enjoy it.

The atmosphere is nice, cozy and authentic feeling. It's a small place, and it is decorated simply but nicely.

Overall I highly reccomend checking this place out, it's worth the trip to BayRidge!

Yum!

by babagoo

I've been to this restaurant twice. The most recent time had to be one of the best meals ever. If I were to be executed and they asked me what I wanted as my last meal- I would say the Fish Berry from La Maison. The cook here definitely knows what she is doing back there- she is a great cook! My compliments to the chef!

Not sure why a previous review said all the food on the menu seemed unappetizing-perhaps because there are no pictures on the menu, lots to read and lots of description, perhaps they were a bit unadventurous. But to tell you the truth, I found it difficult to decide on an entree because everything seemed so delicious! I hesitated giving such a glowing review for selfish reasons- I don't want it to become crowded! But if you're in the neighborhood, you would be crazy not to stop by- SERIOUSLY!

  • Pros: small, quaint, great chef!!
  • Cons: other customers' kids running around

Great Lamb at a Charming Place

by Chapaev

The restaurant is unassuming, rather small and lacks all the usual trappings of Moroccon restaurants - bellydancers, pillows and overall glitter. And that's a relief. Right away it seems that the emphasis here is on the food. That's only partly correct. The emphasis is on the entrees. Appetizers are in general quite bland, the dough is savory but the fillings (kafta, chicken) lack spice and salt. The lamb tagines, however, redeem the place. The New Zealand organic lamb shank is large, scrumptious and melt-in-your mouth good. Whether accompanied by sweet prunes and almonds or berber combinations of lemons, olives and sweet peas..it is delicous. And another great thing, besides the fact that all entries are $14 or less, the restaurant has a BYOB policy. And don't forget the Moroccan tea, that is safe to say the most delicious fresh mint tea I've ever tasted (and I've heavily indulged in the tea lounges in Granada and Cordoba).

Overall.. a great find.

  • Pros: tagines, tea
  • Cons: appetizers

Best Moroccan

by monasturm

I thought this place was just fantastic. Really cute and awesome food. I just went to Morocco a few months ago and this place is as authentic as it gets! order the Chicken/Phillo Dough dessert. It's like nothing you;ve had before.

Save yourselves by avoiding it!!

by shopgrl529

I recently moved to the neighborhood and had walked by it several times and thought it was a cute little place. I wanted to try the restaurant, and what better time than my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend? We went on a friday night, what a disaster!!!!!! I didn't know what to eat, everything seemed unappetizing and the actual food was worst! The utensils were uncleaned and worst of it.. the guy who served us. He seemed very snobbish and rude. Talk about the worst night ever. We ended up stopping at the nearest pizzaria for a slice and called it a night..

I recommend the city's hot dog vendors than to eat there!!

  • Pros: i can't think of any
  • Cons: rude service
