I am currently doing a voluntary fellowship in Refractive Surgery with Dr Emil Chynn at Park Avenue Laser Vision and therefore, I can share my experience as a fellow here because I am not an employee. This is my second fellowship as I did my residency in Ophthalmology and fellowship in Retina from India and practiced there for about 8 years. I am really fortunate to be trained by Dr Chynn who is an outstanding surgeon and a great mentor with excellent credentials. It is one year of training in LASEK, a no cut, no flap procedure, which in the present times, is the most advanced techniques of laser vision correction. Dr Chynn is a perfectionist and a hard task master. He is an expert in “Patient Management”. He trains his staff well to provide a high standard of care for all his patients, which, I believe is in the best interest of the patients. My training is really intense and rigorous as there is no room for error in this field. Our patients are all smart and educated people who research about the procedure before they come to us for a consultation, which makes our job even more challenging. I am really glad to be a part of PALV team and would be there to answer any questions or queries you might have. Dr. J. Puri, MD

I’m more than happy to share my exciting news with you. I had LASEK surgery at Park Avenue Laser Vision (Nov. 19th ‘08) and I am thrilled to know that I now see the world without the hassles of contacts and glasses. I am a 20 year old college student. I was on the high side of astigmatism. My Rx was (-4.75, -3.00 x180). Therefore, contacts lenses were very uneasy on my eyes and only wore them for very special occasions. My daily life is busy like any New Yorker I suppose. From studying intensively, working with children, to boxing, swimming, belly dancing and last but not least cooking; Life is less hectic without glasses getting muggy, or braking into pieces. LASEK is completely flapless, greatly reducing possibility of complications. If you are thinking about laser vision for yourself, Park Avenue Laser Vision provides free consultations and conducts monthly live laser seminars. You can personally witness the case and painlessness of LASEK surgery just like I attended and went under one. Dr. Chynn is a Harvard-trained surgeon who has performed over 10,000 procedures with a perfect track record. Of course, I had some anxiety but Dr. Chynn and his staff, of highly qualified doctors and medical professionals, have been caring and comforting. They themselves have had laser vision correction by Dr. Chynn. I researched and evaluated all laser vision correction centers in New York, without a doubt, Park Avenue Laser Vision has been the best choice. I highly recommend Dr. Chynn and his staff. - Follow all instructions - Educate yourself to be a "good patient." - Launch the Laser Simulator as needed and you'll be ready for surgery and to be 20/20.
Pros: Live Laser Seminars, High tech

I am extremely happy to report that my recent surgery on October 8 was a huge success. My vision started deteriorating at age 6 at which point I started where glasses, then contacts at age 12. Before the surgery my prescription was an extremely high -8.50. NOW, at age 28, after following ALL of Dr. Chynn's post-operation instructions to the last detail, to my AMAZEMENT I am seeing 20/20 as of about 3 weeks ago. My prescription was so high that I more than likely would NOT have qualified as a candidate for the old-fashioned, cutting LASIK procedure... The no-cutting, no-flap LASEK procedure is much safer and my result is proof of that. I can also say that the Laser Simulator that I created for Park Avenue Laser Vision was VERY helpful in getting me to relax during the surgery. Having LASEK was no doubt the best decision I've ever made, and I will be forever grateful to Dr. Chynn for the miracle he has given me. I have two words for anyone considering LASEK... DO IT!!!

After years of contemplation of laser eye surgery, and half my life wearing glasses and contact lenses, I finally listened to my best friend’s urging to get laser eye surgery. My sister had had it, as well as many friends and clients, all successfully and she activated me from “thinking about it” to actually doing it. My whole experience at Park Avenue Laser was warm and professional. I felt completely safe with their committed doctors and state of the art technology. The preparation and procedure itself were as smooth as silk. I actually enjoyed the 4 days of recovery with my eyes shut. It was a great chance to rest, be taken care of by a roster of friends and listen to podcasts. Three months later, my vision is 20:20 and it feels like a dream. I’ve gone from being the one among my friends who couldn’t quite make out the details in the distance to being the one who points out every detail. Seeing well feels like a luxury, especially when I go to bed at night and don’t have to deal with taking out contacts, and when wake up in the morning clear eyed and fresh. My eyes were so sick and tired of contacts they are thanking me! To sum it up in one word I’d use the term “liberated.” I feel free and absolutely thrilled.
Pros: Great location, very high tech

I contemplated Lasek for years, but was just too nervous to do it. I met Dr. Chynn at an animal rescue benefit, and seeing the real person behind the doctor helped me to put my mind at ease. I finally did it, and I could not be happier! It's been a year and half since my right eye had Lasek, and I am just wondering why I never had it done before! The amount of time saved with contact lens fumbling has been a gift to my busy lifestyle. I couln't even read the E on the eyechart before, and now my vision in the eye Dr Chynn performed Lasek on is perfect. Thank you!!! - Holly I got Botox there - and WOW! I was thrilled with the results. I referred two friends and got referral bonuses, meaning my next treatment was already half paid for. I was really surprised at how quick and easy it was, and it took away those crows feet.

I had my Lasek surgery done about a month ago by Dr. Chynn at Park Avenue Laser Vision. It was a great experience. When I arrived for my consultation I was very nervous. Dr. Chynn answered all of my questions throughly and honestly, not just telling me what I wanted to hear. I had a very high prescription, I was a +6.25 in the right eye, and + 7.50 on the left (yeah I was blind). He asked me a few personal questions, and ran a few tests. Not long after we decided what procedure would be best for me. By the end of my consultation, I felt so comfortable that I actually scheduled my surgery for the next day. Sugery went great it was absolutely painless, I even got to listen to my favorite cd while the procedure was being done. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. Now only a month after surgery and I am already seeing 20/25 in both eyes, and is expecting it to be even better. Thank You Dr. Chynn.

I had my surgery on Thursday, June 26th late in the afternoon. I was nervous at first, but my friend was a great coach. I highly recommend having someone extremely patient who will talk you through your fears and comfort you. Needless to say, the procedure was quick and painless, and when I sat up I could see perfectly! I literally lost it and cried tears of joy. I felt like the family in Extreme Home Makeover when they move the bus. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. Dr. Chynn and the rest of the staff were all very supportive and friendly and were great at answering questions and putting my mind at ease. A month later, my life is completely changed for the better. For a while I had to stop myself from wanting to “take my contacts” out before bed and got excited every time I realized they weren’t there anymore! I highly recommend the wonderful staff at Park Avenue.

UPDATE: It has now been seven weeks since my LASEK and epi-LASEK surgery, and I think it's safe to say my eyes are just about all the way healed. Because my prescription was so high, it has been gradually getting a little better as the days pass and my eyes continue to heal on a microscopic level. I visited the retinal specialist for a checkup and she said my eyes healed beautifully and everything looked great. When I went for my 4 week check-up, Dr. Chynn said I was somewhere between 20/25 and 20/20, which is really great. I can tell the difference though between which eye had LASEK and which has that added high-definition crispness – and while I can see and read great with both eyes, when I close my left eye, everything with my right eye only is much cleaner and crisper than with my left eye alone or both eyes together. It was actually the opposite of that first week, when the eye with epi-LASEK was still healing and therefore was blurrier and tougher to focus than my left eye right away. The left eye healed quicker, but the right one had the best long-term progress. I would certainly recommend epi-LASEK over regular LASEK based on that extra notch of clarity that I have in my right eye. As far as taking care of them now, I switched to the twice a day weaker steroids and started my Restatis drops (they help your eyes to produce more of their own tears) after my four week check-up as Dr. Chynn said and I don't really have any dry eye symptoms aside from being in a dry or dusty area or at the end of a long day, so now it's a matter of reminding myself to put in artificial tears every hour or two to keep my eyes moisturized. And, following doctor's orders, I went and bought myself a few pair of super cute sunglasses to protect my eyes from the sun. Overall, the few months of eye drops and the few days of resting and healing are nothing in comparison with being able to open my eyes and see everything around me every morning.
Pros: always seen by a doctor, great staff, super friendly

Absolutely painfree and best decision I have ever made. Yes Lasek is a big investment, but I can honestly say being as blind as a bat, for my entire life and finally going through with eye surgery was worth every penny. Park Laser is extremely professional and makes sure you are comfortable from beginning of your consultation to the end. They don't pressure you or try to sell you anything. The entire laser procedure literally takes just about few minutes and they ask you to bring your own music so they can play it for you during surgery. Plan your schedule well, however, as you need to keep your eyes closed for about 3 days after surgery. I did mine during July 4th weekend, and I was bored out of my mind but at least I can finally see now! The staff and service is extremely friendly, they truly make you feel at home. They also provide great discounts and offer different services according to your personal needs.

Before surgery I couldn’t see anything clearly without glasses. Even worse, all outdoor activities were a strain. Needless to say I couldn’t score many points playing basketball. At work I wasn’t able to use a computer for more than an hour before I started getting head aches. This not only affected my performance but also my attitude. Now that I’ve had the surgery I finally have a full field of vision during every waking hour. Being able to walk outside with no glasses or contacts and seeing everything is amazing. I highly recommend LASEK surgery at Park Avenue Laser Vision. It's safer than LASIK over long run, and not painful. They run free monthly seminars open to the public at their practice. You can email call (212) 741-8628 to register for the next seminar. Don’t miss out on the chance of a life time.
Pros: Seen only by MDs who know their stuff
