Don't go to this bar
by edx74
The owner hired me to host his Bingo night. I arrived at the appointed time. He arrived 20 minutes after that and told me that he decided to hire someone else THE PREVIOUS WEEK. He then told me that he forgot to call me.
No kidding.
The decor is blah: cheap furniture and poor lighting. The Sweet Ups house brand beer tastes like Natural Light. The exterior looks like a strip mall.
Brooklyn is big. There's gotta be something better.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: house brand beer is awful
Best Bar for a Date or Small Group of Friends
by paint4me
I've been coming here for years and I always have a great time. Atmosphere is chill and it's just a really great looking bar. The cozy booths and candle lit tables make this an ideal spot to enjoy a romantic moment and sip a cocktail (Pomegranate Margarita) with your sweetie.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere, nice bartenders
Great neighborhood bar
by drumerman1
Just moved into the neighborhood recently and poped in this bar for a drink. The bartender was really friendly and the people hanging out at the bar were cool too. We all got along and it made me feel right at home. Met other musicians, made some new friends in the neighborhood which is really cool. They had a bbq out back - can't beat that!
- Pros: cool people, great music, friendly staff
AGREED: WORST BAR IN BROOKLYN
by Jean19
RODENTS!!! And when I say "rodents" I mean awful, hateful, and pretentious bar owner and staff. Seriously, this place should really rethink their service tactics, ESPECIALLY because their always empty. The only perk is the exit door, where you'll be surely heading.
- Pros: Neighborhood
- Cons: Staff and smell
DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR BUSINESS
by stef828
the owner of this bar, who also owns royal oak, is one of the worst human beings i have ever met. he is awful to his employees and to patrons of the bar.
there is a reason sweet ups is always empty. do not give this guy your business...especially considering there are so many alternatives to this bar! alternatives that do the drinks, music, and atmosphere WAY better!
worst bar owner in brooklyn

whatever you do..do not give this guy your money. he is belittling and patronizing to the community and guests of his bars.
- Pros: nice atmosphere
- Cons: owner
Looking for Sweet Ups and a good place to drink it? Look no further
by steorra
I haven't had much to drink from Sweet Ups other than Sweet Ups, but that's exactly why I go there. I like the vibe -- dark interior, friendly bartenders, comfy booths. The crowd is also chill and more diverse than the standard Williamsburg clones. (I've only been there on weekdays, so the weekend crowd could be a different story.) All in all, recommended as a good place to chill out with a beer, but not necessarily the place to go if you're looking for elaborate drinks.
- Pros: Friendly bartenders, decent prices, relaxed environment.
- Cons: Not for the high-maintenance crowd.
Hipster swank

I'm not always in the mood for Sweet Ups, but when I am it hits the spot quite nicely. The atmosphere is their strongest attribute. Nice decor and lighting lead to excellent moods. The beer selection isn't always exactly what I'd like, though.
- Pros: atmosphere, decor
- Cons: selection sometimes lacking
the service is fine
by jaykayess
I'll agree with the previous reviewer that the drinks are a little on the watery side; but I've never had a problem with the service there.
Warmth and glamour, nicely shaken.

Perpetually dim lighting, glossy bar stools and banquettes popping against the deep-red velvet-flocked walls, lend a cleanly retro look with an of-the-moment polish. Casually sexy, the Williamsburg bar is a natural for the couples and groups who have become regulars. Decorative photos of the parents of people who helped open the bar (taken in their 20s and 30s), add a witty, soulful touch. Owner Benjamin Shih has built a loyal following as a neighborhood bartender, and his flavorful drinks are part of the reason why. Cocktails such as the pomegranate margarita and berry-flavored gin Bramble, topped with raspberries and other seasonal garnishes, win fans.
