Great Food

Those reviews with the 1 star? sorry, those people are out of their minds, don't tell me that they both found insects in their food and the management did nothing about it. Lai Yuen may be pricey, but everything you order is DELICIOUS and the restaurant is beautiful, especially considering what most chinese restaurants look like. I have some very picky friends that will ONLY eat chinese from Lai Yuen. Things to try- sizzling rice soup, mango beef, orange beef, grand marnier shrimp, the seafood is great, the sushi is even great (and that says alot coming from someone like me who is VERY picky about sushi) Don't listen to those poeple, they're probably cheap and bitter about it being expensive and made up the things about insects, it's probably the same person that wrote both of those reviews. Definitely eat at Lai Yuen.
- Pros: Valet parking, great ambiance , great food, awesome koi fish tank
- Cons: pricey for chinese
Over-Rated and Over-Priced

At the foot of the Verrazano stands a Chinese restaurant with very high prices and very bad food.
The staff is very rude and impatient . The dishes are doused with sodium-laden brown sauces. We requested white sauce instead and the waiter got very annoyed and tried to talk us out of it.
The appetizers were very small and unappealing. The entrees were small as well and the service was horrible. The roast pork lo mein had an insect in it and when we told the waiter he was not helpful. The manager came over to the table and didnt even apologize. He just told us to order something else. Of course, we didnt.
When we got our check they actually attempted to charge us for the lo mein. I couldnt believe they had the audacity to even bring us a check ! I would not recommend Lai Yuen to my worst enemy. Eat elsewhere
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: Many
Upscale Chinese

This is a very good Chinese restaurant located right off the Verrazano Bridge in Brooklyn. The decor and ambience is first rate but you can feel comfortable in jeans and sneakers as well. We had the vegetable dumplings, grilled shrimp and the three pepper chicken. . .it was all very good and very fresh. . .. .the chicken dish was pretty hot. . .Everything about the restaurant was first rate and we will definetly return. . .It is pricey.. . .especially for chinese food. . . .expect an entry to be $16 -$25 . . . and more for lobster. . .
- Pros: nice decor. .friendly staff
- Cons: pricey
Get the roast pork
by mrfreakybig
I was really impressed with this place. It's sort of out of the way at the end of 4th ave, but it's worth it to go there. The roast pork was possibly the best I've ever had. The won ton soup was great, and the egg roll was crispy without being greasy.
The service was strange. I went during lunch and the hostess greeted me with suspicion, "why would a guy come at 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon?" Service was slow, but in an odd way hurried. They didn't give me a chance to order anything but my entree, so to tell them I wanted an egg roll and a beer, I had to find the waiter and order them separately. Also, even though I was asked twice what kind of rice I wanted, none ever came, and after they dropped my food off, the waiters made themselves scarce.
- Pros: roast pork
- Cons: shoddy service
Chinese cuisine in a league of their own!

This is the best Chinese food I have ever tasted in Brooklyn. The quality is above the best. I take out from this restaurant at least once a week and have tried everything. The food speaks for itself.
Love this place

I love this place. Yes, they're a bit more expensive then typical, but then again, so is their food. Everything I've ever eaten there (or ordered for home delivery) has been delicious. I highly reccomend the grand marnier shrimp, it's insanely good.
- Pros: large selection
- Cons: expensive
Great food

The food at Lai Yuen is very good. I've had the Szechuan Lobster, chicken w/ broccoli, and Hong Kong shrimp. All were excellent- though the Szechuan sauce tasted more like General Tso's sauce- but hey, it's lobster- you can't really go wrong. It's a little pricey, but the ambience is nice, the service is good, and the food is great!
- Pros: Good food, Nice ambience
- Cons: Pricey
