What a find!
by BuddySmith
What a find! A friend & I stumbled on this charming restaurant & bar right under the Brooklyn Bridge last night and we had a GREAT time. When I first saw a huge bar with more beer selections than I could count I thought, OK, it's a bar and burger joint. So we weren't expecting an epicurian meal of any sort. But we still ordered Coconut Shrimp & an Eggplant Napolean appetizer - which were amazing! The shrimp was in a pineapple chutney that I could have taken home by the jar.
So far, so good. For dinner I had sea scallops with mushroom risotto and my buddy had stuffed chicken with sundried tomatoes, capers and mozzerella, smothered in tomato sauce and we both loved it.
For dessert we had the house special called murder by chocolate, it was a chocolate mousse cake with a big knife sticking out of it and raspberry sauce -- and I swear, it DID look like someone was murdered..and I could see why...if they tried to take it from me, I would have murdered someone too! It was THAT good.
I took a bunch of pix so you guys can all see what a great find this is. I also got a look at the Valentines Day menu. It looks great with things like champagne chicken and lobster ravioli...and if I didn't have to go back to Miami today I would have made a reservation. The staff is cool and attentive and they were telling me about a disco party coming up on the 19th, so I took a picture of that too...who knew Brooklyn could be so cool? I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
- Pros: Inventive Menu, Nice Staff, Fun Atmosphere,
- Cons: It was busy so I had to wait a while but it was worth it, I am leaving town before the disco party
Just OK

The wait staff are pretty nice. The drinks are usually great and the service has always been prompt. The meals are not always good. Burgers are great. However, one evening my friend and I ordered the calamari appetizer and steaks for dinner. The steaks were tough and the calamari was chewy and undercooked. We were not charged for the food, but it makes for an awkward situation. It will be a while before we go back.
- Pros: never crowded, good draft beer selection
- Cons: food not cooked properly
BAD Food

Ok, so me and my boyfriend like to go out once a week for dinner to some nice place.. We enjoy all kinds food, would it be American, Italian, French or Asian Fusion.. So, last Saturday, we decide to chill in Dumbo and try the Water Street Restaurant...WOW, what a mistake.. First, we order appetizers.. I order Fried Calamari...it was extremely chewy.. then I ask the waitress if they can change shrimp in shrimp languini to some other seafood..she tells me no...as the shrimp is already mixed in.. then I order a side order of onion rings which they dont have that day.. I finally ordered crab cakes with french fries.. My G_D..those crab cakes look like beef patties..that's how much they were overcooked..and the fries..you could have broken a tooth while eating them..So I sent the food back which I have never done before and we left.
The only good thing, I can say about this place is that they are drinks were not bad.. We had some black cherry drink that was good.. Don't go there.. Food is pre cooked..
- Pros: Ok Drinks
- Cons: pre cooked food
Thumbs Down

We decided to try this restaurant over the weekend because were looking for a place in brooklyn to dine after we attended the New York Photo Festival. We were impressed with the ambiance and the afternoon band was pretty good. Unfortunately everything else about the restaurant was awful. The service was slow and inaccurate. The waitress must have been related to the owner because she had no waitressing skills. When we finally got our food, it was cold. We had to send it back and then the waitress gave us attitude. The food came back a little warmer and we were starving by that time so we were ready to eat. The food was horrible. I couldnt even eat all of mine. My saving grace was the vodka tonic I was drinking because it numbed me from the pain of dining there. Skip this place and take the 5 minute car ride or 15 minute walk to Smith street or Montague Street.
HORRIBLE - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR $

We decided to eat here after my sister's graduation. 'tis the season for restaurants to be at full capacity so we were excited when we finally found a restaurant that could seat all 9 of us. We know why...
Everything was normal and we were seated at a nice table by the window. The waitress came around and we placed our drink orders. She came back with the drinks and all of sudden a stella and a couple of cokes were spilt on my sister (the graduate). The stella glass actually broke on her back and it was hard to tell the shards of glass from the ice cubes. The waitress barely apologized and went to find someone to clean-up the mess. I went with my sister to the bathroom so she can try to dry off. She shook out her dress and you can hear the pieces of glass falling out. It was her graduation and accidents happen so we went back upstairs to make the most of it. After that scene, we were on the lookout for any other signs of dismay and we knew that mangement would be over soon to ask if everything was okay. We ordered our food, never got bread, received cold meals, never got a refill of water, they forgot to bring someone's dessert but we knew that the Manager would be over soon. Finally, we received the bill and that's when we decided to address the problem. The manager told us that he asked the waitress if everything was okay and she said yes. We spoke to the OWNER and the owner said that he didn't feel that he needed to address the problem. He never offered what he could do for us. On the scale of 1-10 the food was a 4 so we weren't looking for a free meal but at the very least, he could've been extremely apologetic but it was clear that he didn't want to be bothered. We paid the bill with no tip and left. From the top down, this place is just bad.
- Pros: location
- Cons: Horrible service, bad food, bad atmosphere
Horrible Customer Service

My fiance and I were out for a walk on a wonderful spring day, when we decided to walk over the Brooklyn and go have lunch across the river. We walked all around the area, and after finding the line at Grimaldi's too long, and the wait at some other places too long, we decided to try the Water Street Rest. and Lounge. The atmosphere seemed very nice, and the lunch prices were perfect.
The first sign something was a miss was when we had to stand for 5 minutes at the hostess station and wait for someone to notice us. Once the hostess re-appeared, we were told it would only be a few minutes. We were taken to a nice little table in a matter of minutes, but thats were the service ended. We were not brought out water or bread and no one came to take even a drink order. After 30 mins we hadn't even seen a memeber of the staff come anywhere near our table, so we left to find another place to eat. I was shocked at how long they left us waiting at our table. We might still be waiting if we didnt leave!

I chose this restaurant off of the restaurant week list to celelbrate my birthday. I looved it. The food was great and plentiful. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was great. There were 8 different dishes at our table and seven of the eight received stellar reviews. The one dish that didn't was baked chicken. Who orders baked chicken anyway. I would reccommend this restaurant to anyone. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because of location. It was difficult to find even for those of us who have lived in Brooklyn all of our lives. And, there is limited parking. But still, it was great. One of the best birthdays I have ever had.
- Pros: Plenty of food for your dollar, lovely atmosphere, great hostess
- Cons: location (you need a navigation system to find it), and parking
Terribly rude.

I can safely say I will never frequent this restaurant again. We were ignored by the host and then upon approaching him, were told there was "at least a 45 minute wait". We found this to be odd since it was evident that there were several tables available. We were not invited to wait at the bar, but when we opted for that, we were again ignored. Once we hunted someone down at the bar, they seemed to be "out" of the items we were interested in ordering. Very aloof. Very uncomfortable. There are other restaurants in DUMBO that can provide a much better atomosphere.
- Pros: saved on tip money due to total lack of service...
- Cons: ghost town atomsphere, rude staff, average food
Delicious..........

My fiance and I picked this restaurant out of the Brooklyn restaurant week list but trust me, restaurant week or not this is a restaurant you want on YOUR list. The service was not the best but it was very friendly, only one waiter, but on Sunday night... not too packed so it was o.k. The decor is very nice, a little rustic but with classy touches. The food was GREAT!! I had the chicken breast stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, capers, cheese etc. on top of spinach fettuccini; my fiance had the 14oz. steak. The appetizers were SUPERB. I highly recommend the Eggplant Napoleon and the Crisp Polentas, as well as the Mini Chicken Tacos, which we got by mistake cuz it was brought over to the wrong table (another plus plus, lol). Overall a great restaurant.
- Pros: FOOD, location, atmosphere
- Cons: bit slow service
Worst Service Ever!

My fiance and I went to the Water Street Restaurant last weekend - we wanted pizza near the waterfront but the lines were too long and this place looked and smelled great! What a bad idea that was! Our food took over 45 minutes to come, and my chicken was not cooked. They even had the nerve to say we will just cook the chicken longer (and let the potatoes and veggys that were sitting in the chicken juice be). They got it back to me within 15 minutes, but it was still not great. The waitress never checked on us, we actually had to flag her down. We ended up having to run to the water front to check out the last 1 minute of fire works! Then we had ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory - my advice skip this place completely and save yourself $60!
- Pros: Nice location, cool atmosphere
- Cons: Service, Food, and basically everything else
