The Scene
How strange to find this shop on Williamsburg's main drag, where devotees of ironic math-rock eyeglasses and vintage cords sip their soy lattes and discuss self-published lit mags. They're probably not perusing Lawanna's for rhinestone earrings shaped like cherries, but that's one of the reasons we like it.

The Goods
This is where you go for a Halloween costume or to replenish your supply of certain necessities. Like fishnets in a rainbow of colors. Or several styles of Pumas. Or Paul Frank wallets with the monkey, of course, as well as Western and mod motifs. Rhinestone nameplate necklaces proclaim everything from "sexy" to "snatch," while a turquoise clutch announces "maneater" on its side. There's a definite feline theme here, with Hello Kitty-covered undies and kneesocks printed with "Bad Kitty." Pick up a studded cuff for your punk rock brother, and get the bejeweled safety pin for yourself.

The Awesomest Store in NYC

Lawanna's is my favorite store in NYC. It is the only place I shop for all my cooly cool clothes. I have been shopping there for the past 6 years. They have the largest retail selection of Vans in the entire NYC. So if you ever need some hot kicks head on over and see the coolest store ever. Holla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cutest boys buy shoes at Lawannas

The girls that work there are nice, not snotty art-damaged hipsters. The clothes--for girls and boys--are hot, selection is great. It's one of the few places that don't sell generic skirts and sweaters or ratty cords in Bklyn/downtown NYC. The jewelry is supercool and cheap cheap cheap and the Vans bring the cutest boys in NYC into the store.

• Pros: great staff, great selection, low prices
• Cons: can't leave w/out, buying stuff!!!

THE best brooklyn shop!

since the moment i walked into lawanna's, i knew our whole neighborhood was in for the time of our lives. there is a GREAT staff, who makes all of their customers feel comfortable, and they are ALWAYS going that extra step to help, without being pushy (which is very rare in nyc). not only are they the most unique store in brooklyn, but the time and effort they put into the shop shows through. constantly up on the hottest trends from all over the country, researching fashion conventions, having the most recent info on all their merch, and also selling much gear for local artists. even being a small shop, they are the biggest part of their community.

• Pros: most unique clothing, easiest location, cummunity involved

Just TRY to walk out empty-handed...

I can't! Ok, it's the tiniest shop in Bklyn but when a shop is jam packed full of goodies, it's like running riot in the coolest closet you've ever seen. Hey, it looks like my apartment, so I'm perfectly at home here. The staff are the funny, cool girls you were supposed to have for sisters and are unerring in letting you know when those pants are supposed to be tighter or the socks lower. Put it this way, I can find gifts for everyone in here, except maybe my parents. Then again, Mom might really like that BITCH necklace....
