The reviews here are dated

I've been to this theatre a lot since moving to Brooklyn and have seen none of the problems listed here. The lobby is pretty small so during movie rush it can get annoying getting past the ticket taker.

There's a Barnes and Noble right next door which is convienient when waiting for friends or waiting around if you get to the theatre too early.

  • Pros: Great location
  • Cons: The lobby is small

Court St 12 is not a bad place you people make it bad

by M1ndfr3ak

As an employee of this theater, I would like to say the following. We try our best but when we are forced to deal with rude and inconsiderate people after an 8+ hour shift, while being forced to deal with management, I admit our service might suffer. As a teenager of African-American descent, we are not loud or rude that is stereotypical. However the patrons are loud and rude. We simply do our jobs as well as we can

  • Pros: Excellent location, service, quality, staff
  • Cons: Poor Partons

Hickory

by CSMobileUser

This place smells of Hickory sausage links and those real small Star Bright candies your grandmother used to keep in her purse, next to her cigarette pouch. The staff often taste like yogurt or some sort of mild vinegrette. The seating is nice, except I found an old salami in one of the trash cans

People need to stop being small - minded.

by nobleJustice

I understand that as paying customers you demand quality, great service and respect. I expect it and by all means it's not alot to ask for. All those "loud", "uneducated' ,"teens" (where the assumption was made) that don't reside in the area deserve that same treatment. I'm not making the point to say that rude, arguementative people looking to offend and start confrontations should be put up with either. I just think it's a little narrow minded and steroe-typical to make remarks bashing "teens", "people not residing in the area" and "people of color" , when anyone can present an unwanted problem and be low class. Perhaps it's a little unfair to dictate how an audience should enjoy their movie experience, again not disregarding those that want to watch an intense drama in silence - but some thrillers and horror movies make people react differently when their caught up in what's going on. If you don't like this theatre, because of all these unbearable conditions then use our options! Take the train an extra stop further, go to manhattan and find a better selection or make it a blockbuster night(where you can sit home and be at one with yourself and all your "muteness"). Don't claim a theatre that's open to the public and to anyone willing to purchase a ticket!

  • Pros: Very convenient location.
  • Cons: Needs more organization.

One of the worst theatres in Brooklyn! Reminds me of the Magic Johnson & Sunrise theatre!

by jeveu

When this theatre was first opened it was such a delight to go there to see a movie. After a year or so later, it has turned into the slum house from hell. It's even worse if you go there during the weekends. Too many unruly teenagers without any supervision, hoodlums, people talking, laughing or conversing during the movie--and wants to fight if you make a comment of their behavior. The lack of disrespect and lack of manners that exists there is simply unbelievable. The kind of people that hang out there seems to be so uneducated, low class individuals with no appreciation for entertainment or films. There is nothing wrong with enjoying yourself during a movie without getting loud, obnoxious and disturbing the peace of others. I do not plan to go to this theater or recommend it to anyone else. I prefer to attend the Coble hill theater or the theater on the upper east side with more civilized people. The management also need to train their staff properly because they are rude and slow. They also need more security guards with better supervision for the crowd/public and remove any individuals from the theater that becomes a nuisance. Finally, it's just so sad because the theater is in such great location. The majority of the people that go to the movies there don't even reside in the area. In order for the theater to maintain a great reputation, management needs to change, employees need to change their attitudes, and there should be stricter rules and guidelines for the public to follow before they are allowed into the theater.

  • Pros: large stadium seating, good audio/visual
  • Cons: lack of comfort, service, unruly individuals

Not meant for racists.

by thatswhatsup

I read the last two reviews and I agree. If you get nervous around people of color than this theatre is not for you. Personally, I like it there. If you want more of the art house feel, walk about 10 blocks down Court Street to the much more intimate Court Street Theater. As for the UA, they often have a raucous crowd that has trouble keeping its mouth shut. They cheer; they laugh out loud; they bring their babies to rated R movies; they clap at the end of movies like Wanted. But if I'm going to see a movie like Wanted then frankly that's the kind of crowd I want to see it with. Yes, the service at the concession stand is lousy, but I usually bring in my own bag of snacks and drinks from the deli down the street and the staff could care less. My biggest beef with the UA is their ridiculous prices for tickets, which I rectify by seeing three or four movies at a time. And that's really what I want to focus on here. The staff simply does not give a F*** what you do. (The exception being toking up inside the theater, which happened during Pineapple Express. The offenders were escorted out) The UA gets four stars because it is by far the easiest theater I know of in which to movie hop. And that's what's up!

  • Pros: Wide selection of films, including some independents
  • Cons: The usual: high prices except on first showings of the day

disgusting

by peajaybee

the service at the concession stand is like watching a crippled tortoise in slow motion. i can't believe how slow every one of these people walks to the popcorn. takes out the bag. pauses. opens the bag. forgets what they're doing. picks up another bag....

the theaters are filled with rodents (literally) and the floors are sticky.

the clientele apparently think the theaters are phone booths.

once i had to go track down a manager to turn off the lights which remained on when the movie started.

etc.:

avoid at all costs.

  • Pros: a movie is usually under two hours long
  • Cons: service, cleanliness, three year epic journey to the theater, loud clientele

Avoid if you can

by citypat65

I wonder if people know that this theater was constructed by none other than Bruce Ratner, the same guy fighting to build a basketball arena and mixed housing complex on Flatbush and Atlantic avenues. I used to work in the area and read the local papers and I remember there was so much local opposition to this theater. First there was the question of aesthetic and if the theater would fit in the historic neighborhood. Secondly, and probably most important was what kind of movies would be shown there (i.e. what kind of people it would attract). Old Bruce and Regal Cinema (the theater owners at the time) assured the locals that the building will be in line with community standards. As for the kind of movies they would show, Regal announced that it would show a mix of independent art house and foreign films (to appease the locals) along with big blockbusters. Anyone who lives or works in the area knows that neither promise materialized. The building went up and from the outside it is pretty ugly and Regal needed to make a profit before it can waste it time with movies nobody (including the locals I?m sure) will want to see. Consequently, the theater attracted a urban crowd who are loud, proud and not afraid to show it, making the experience of anyone just wanting to enjoy a movie a nightmare. Now old Bruce wants to ruin?er build in another neighborhood with the same issues of aesthetic and impact to neighborhood. He?s gotten the same urban crowd behind him on this one with promises of low income housing units in the complex and major NBA basketball games of course. I just want to know if Bruce loves to cater to these people so much, why doesn?t he save everyone time and trouble and build theaters and arenas in their neighborhoods.

  • Pros: lots of theaters, during non-peak times almost desent experience
  • Cons: both patrons and staff are unbearable to deal with

kids with no supervision, incompetent management, boycott United Artists

by hdo202

You wouldn't think there would be a screaming baby at a 10 pm showing of a rated R movie, but you'd be wrong. Kids are constantly prowling, going from theater to theater and disrupting the people who are actually there to see a movie. Not only will I never go to this theater, I'm telling all my friends never to go to a United Artists theater again. The issues at this particular theater need to be resolved at the corporate level.

  • Pros: pros?
  • Cons: This theater is one big con.

Best Matinee, Weekday off comfy spot!

by Lvly2bMe

I've lived in Brooklyn all my life and was excited when Court Street 12 movie theatre opened up. It's a big movie theatre and it is in a convenient spot, accessible by bus or train. Over the years I've seen the quality of theatre declined. If your planning a weekend movie visit I would NOT recommend Court Street 12. Too many people, too little service. Only go to the theatre on weekdays or first show on weekends, you'll get your monies worth during these times.

  • Pros: Great movie selection, excellent location
  • Cons: Bad service
