we give up on this one

the charm of the old diner car is looking a little ratty these days, the food was way too greasy to be edible and the service.. well, leah, our waitress was aggressively hostile when we were one of four couples in the entire joint.
One of my favorites

We've been coming to Relish for about 13 years and have never been disappointed. The menu is on the small side, but the preparations are always perfect! In the warmer weather, the outdoor garden is perfect for a relaxing dinner. But maybe I shouldn't be saying all these good things about it. I don't want to have to wait to be seated the next time I go there for dinner.
- Pros: Great food, nicely prepared
- Cons: Buba is no longer there
Bad service, mediocre menu
by sfrucht02 at Citysearch
Going to this place is just settling. The menu is tiny and mediocre. By the time I picked something off the menu that moderately interested me, my waiter never showed up. He just never took my order, brought me water, acknowledged my existence. I sat there for fifteen minutes, got up, and left. Maybe if they hired someone who wasn't 11 years old to work there, the service wouldn't be so awful.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
My favorite place!
by Dmerit at Citysearch
I had to write a review because I was really surprised by what I read from other users. I love this place and come all the time and always have great friendly service. I love their burgers and the specialty drinks are on par with any upscale bar in NYC.
- Pros: service, cocktails, food
- Cons: crazy busy brunches with long waits
The food is great-----but

How good the food is does not make up for the horrible service. It's almost like everybody is drunk or cocained that works in front. I used to be able to deal with it. Maybe I have changed. Sorry Relish, you lost me.
- Pros: great food
- Cons: the most horrible service
Nice food, service is hit-or-miss...

I come here for the food, not the service...the staff varies so much here that I don't let it affect my decision to eat at Relish. The first time I went, the waiter was awesome...fun and friendly. We gave him a ridiculously huge tip. We had such a good time that we decided to have our wedding rehearsal brunch there about two weeks later and our waitress was hellishly bad...she had an attitude with my adorable 82-year-old father-in-law, who is sweet as pie so she immediately lost in my book. There were 15 of us, which is a lot of work, but if you can't handle waitressing, do us all a favor and do something else for a living. Great fries and cheese grits, so I'll probably go back as soon as possible. What can I say, I'm a masochist with a food problem. Oh, and don't go b/w 5-6PM - the kitchen is closed. I hate that.
- Pros: Great upscale diner food...amazing grits and onion rings
- Cons: service is either great or terrible, closed b/w 5-6PM
Good food, lame service.

The food at relish is good and has been consistent every time I've eaten there. It's also a great space, especially the back yard for brunch when the weather is warm. Unfortunately, the service there is pretty lame. It's hard to get the servers' attention when you need something and often times when it's busy, you will end up waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
- Pros: Good food.
- Cons: Service.
Best brunch in Williamsburg, maybe even NYC!! Great wait staff.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Relish. I am a regular here, dining almost once a week . The service is always fantastic, as is the food. I bring tons of ppl to eat here, and so far no one's been let down. It's hard to want to go anywhere else with such a remarkable place like this. The folks here really value customer service, and it shows. For a place that is constantly packed, it means a lot to me as a customer to have my drinks refilled on time, and to be waited on so fantastically. The crowd is usually very standard run of the mill Williamsburg hipsters, as you would expect for a place in their location, but the vibe of the place is very warm and welcoming to all. I always here my new favorite songs being played here, which just adds to the general cute ambience of the little shiny diner near the waterfront.
Their dishes are a variety of exceptionally delicious southern-tinged fare (try their biscuits and grits), along with some extremely creative takes on standard diner dishes, such as their Corned beef hash with poached eggs and roasted red pepper sauce, & their Goat Cheese and Fig Cake. Brunch is the best in Williamsburg, and definately challenges some of my favorite east village haunts. Dinner is amazing, don't miss out on trying their superb mac and cheese, their super yummy, creamy, thick milkshakes, and the gently fried, not too greasy huge onion rings! Really everything is great, and with the level of attention to customer service, why put up with being treated any less?
Relish, I love you! XOXO
- Pros: fantastic friendly wait staff, cute warm ambience, yummy food (their BRUNCH rules!)
- Cons: cocktails a bit pricey, but very tasty.
Best Brunch in Williamsburg
by jsmckinney at Citysearch
This place has become my favorite Brunch spot in williamsburg. They have some really amazing dishes that I have never had anywhere else, especially the Corned Beef Hash in Roasted Red Peppers sauce. Amazing. The spanish eggs, french toast, chicken sausage gravy, and even their milkshakes are incredible. Additionally, I ALWAYS order their grits, and love them (and I was born and raised in North Carolina) and they are good 95% of the time. Even the burgers look amazing with the gigantic side of onion rings, but ive never brought myself to trying one for brunch.
The staff here is great even when they are slammed on the weekend, I have only had one occasion when they told us they had lost our order, and gave us free drinks. The cocktails are a little on the pricey side, as is the dinner, but overall worth it for the portions you get. It is usually pretty crowded on the weekend, so you have to get there early, but they have a whole lot of seating room, especially in the summertime when the patio is open.
I have become a regular at this place because I live in the neighborhood after union picnic told us 40 times that "we arent open yet" well after their posted opening time. My girlfriend and I go here at least once every two weeks, if not every weekend. In fact, I ate there this morning, and loved it. I just wish they delivered so I could order that biscuits and gravy when I'm hungover Sunday morning.
- Pros: Great food, good portions, good staff, decent prices, big selection, good music, awesome patio
- Cons: Dinner is a little pricey, cocktails are too expensive, no delivery, dont have brunch every hour of every day ;)
Drinking Dinner Diner

I'm not too familiar with the Williamsburg area, but we ventured out to this restaurant about 2 weeks ago with a couple of friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. As soon as we approached the block, we saw about 2 dozen motorcylcles and thought that we were signing ourselves up for some kind of raunchy adventure in a old school, diner. However, we were quite delighted once we arrived, found our party, and checked out the menu in this somewhat trendy and totally inviting haunt.
While the entrees looked delish, I settled upon the Pesto Marinated Grilled Chicken. Good choice because it ended up being the best grilled chicken salad that I have had in years. I've despised chicken for quite a while now, but this salad reminded me that chicken, and its rightful accompaniments, could actually be tasty and satisfying. Wow, were the grilled portabellas and the balsamic vinagrette perfect!
We did run into a miss in the entrees because our friend who ordered the Hanger Steak mentioned that it was quite tough and difficult to "saw" (yes saw - not cut ) through. Uh oh... Aside from that, our party indicated that the veggie burger and the grilled sirloin burger both were orderable but not memorable (a.k.a. "fantastic").
I honestly cannot speak for the rest of the entrees, but I CAN speak for the great time that we had at the restaurant and the fact that...were it more convenient to our house, we'd make it there more often.
- Pros: In Williamsburg (if you're in Williamsburg), Great Menu, Affordable
- Cons: All the way in Williamsburg
