GHETTOY attitude bar owners & bartenders
by isyisy
This place should be shut down for what they do to customers. I've seen polices breaking up the fights and other things......
- Cons: attitudes of bartenders & owners
Fight Fight Fight
by Supesfan11215
This place is a wild mixture of mind numbing boredom or freaking bar room brawls. There was a glass smashing, rolling out the front door fight last night. It continued on the side walk with the bar staff beating down a patron, said patron coming back half an hr later and threatening to smash down the glass front door. Needless to say there was much clutching of pearls going on all night.
The police arrived a few times and the wild night seemed to settle down. This was apparently the 2nd fight in as many days. It was almost like being at Cattyshack. Me-ow!
- Pros: There's always a different vibe
- Cons: Sometimes the vibe is Fight Club!
Fun At Times

This place can be fun. Yes, it's cliquey but what gay bar isn't?
The only problem is like the rest of the hood, it can be too bland.
Very samey samey at times.
But you can meet some interesting people after a few drinks.
Also a good place to viciously rip people apart for a few hours.
- Pros: Local. Great for stumbling home from
- Cons: Jukebox has NO Madonna!!!
Eh, its okay

Cliquey. bad choices in cd jukebox. Fair priced drinks. Bartenders are okay though.Used to go here more often with my boyfriend in 2003 2004, but we found better places in Manhattan. My advice, keep it moving!
- Pros: location is cool
- Cons: some mild attitude on weekends
VERY TACKY, AVOID!!
by nicmac
Avoid this bar, because bartenders are rude and inconsiderate. Not to mention the tacky decorations in the back! Go to Bar Reis down the block.
- Cons: Rude bartenders, tacky decorations
most intoxicated and rude bartenders

Unless coked up, agressive, unattractive bartenders is your thing, the Excelsior is terrible! The worst experience I've ever had. Will never go back. Unbelievably rude.
- Cons: Horrific service, waitstaff clearly not sober
Love It!!!

Love it here. Love the bartenders, the owners, the customers, the jukebox. Love it! Great fun! Cute Brooklyn neighborhood!
- Pros: All
- Cons: Parking, but who drives?
This Park Slope find does double duty as a gay bar and neighborhood hangout.

In Short
Excelsior's crimson walls reflect cheer onto clients' rosy complexions, creating a warm, welcoming vibe. The stylish decor falls somewhere between art deco and pure '70s, with yellow gumdrop lights overhanging a wide mahogany bar. Brooklyn still doesn't move as fast as Manhattan, so this scene isn't quite as cruisy. In fact, Excelsior feels in many ways like a casual dating service for outerborough gay men.

Laid-back gem

I first visited Excelsior about a week after moving to Brooklyn from Chicago. What a joy! Low-pressure, friendly and attractive atmosphere. Bartenders without attitude. The West Village has its attractions, but I know where to go to relax.
- Pros: Friendly clientel, Friendly staff, low-pressure fun
