Great drafts, great food, poor clientelle, poor service
by prosayik
As another has said, this place has the crowd of a sports bar despite the dark and warm pub-like atmosphere. I have gone there several times with a book on a lazy day off and get through about 100 pages before I realize no service is on the way. (So, if you're homeless or need a place to space out where you won't get noticed this is the place). For the price though, the food is fantastic.
- Pros: Food, Beer, Atmosphere, Prices
- Cons: Service, Clientele

great beer. but the joint is full of chubby middle-aged men in khaki pants usually wearing a goatee and a red sox hat.
WORST BARTENDER
by ndalyrose
The service at this place is horrific. Everytime I've been there the bartender has been a complete jerk. Our group finally left to go somewhere else we got so fed up with his slow service and put upon attitude. Drinks are weak and small. Jukebox is so low you can barely hear it. Don't waste your time on this place.
- Pros: There is alcohol.
- Cons: You have to suffer to, get it.
Drink and dine at this upscale Billyburg sports bar.

In Short
Mug's serves up imported beers and pub-grub plates to an after-work neighborhood crowd. Between the tin ceiling and tile floors, the densely decorated tavern lines its dark wood walls with vintage beer steins and coasters intertwined with string lights. Tap brews include Southampton Double White Ale and other locals, and bites like Williams-burgers are dished out at the bar as well as the date-accommodating back room.
The Best!!!

Who would have thought I'd become a regular at a bar (excuse me, alehouse)??? Who would have thought I'd learn to love beer??? This is my spot. It's near my home in Greenpoint. The patrons are friendly and rarely fresh. Sure, those rowdy teachers hang out there on Fridays (LOL), but the crowd dissipates after 7 pm. The bartenders are so friendly. Everyone I take there loves it. Oh yeah, the beer is great too -- much more than I could ever drink. Great place to go if you're a non-hostile Red Socks fan. Pretty good brunch on Sundays too (get the Stuffed French Toast).
- Pros: Beer selection, Cheap (good) eats, Nice regulars
Wanna go to Mugs?
by frankcolamaria
Why go from South Queens to North Brooklyn? To drink Beer! (I do!) Mugs is a joint where you can travel the world... with beer! With 30 taps of beer, some made only blocks away and others across the Atlantic, you are bound to find a good brew! Girls love the ciders, Guys life the ales, and I love the Brooklyn Weiss. Freindly staff, and a local tavern atmosphere at the right price. 30 taps! Thats 1 beer for every day of the month. Can't beat it!
- Pros: great beer, great burgers, great prices
- Cons: , no smoking
Split thy Skull 4

Met up with some new acquaintances here for this annual event. Liked the atmosphere, the friendliness of the patrons and the neighborhood. Drinks were OK and the selection fine, but being a regular of the Blind Tiger, the prices were a tad higher. You get what you pay for though - selection, entertainment and cheap good food all in one place. Definitely would go back.
- Pros: Decent selection, Good cheap food, Friendly patrons
- Cons: $$$ beer, Some beer too cold
A Diamond in the Rough

Mug's used to be a last-stop on the way home for my friends and I when we lived in Greenpoint. The reason? Unbelievable beer selection. The tap beer picks are good, but the bottled beers are where it's really at. Where else can you find verticals of Anchor Christmas Ale going back to the late '90s?
