BEST VALUE ANYWHERE FOR BEEF SHORT RIBS AND BABY BACK RIBS.
A bunch of guys and gals got together on Saturday night for cocktails and spinnin music. Our D.J. was
a real cool dude and played some awesome brazilian and dance tunes that got us sweating to the
beat. We worked up a real appetite and decided to order pizza and heroes. Only thing was my friends
are a bunch of tightwads and ordered just enough to soak up the booze. We heard about this BBQ
joint down in the Hook and gave it a try. We ordered two full orders of Beef Short Ribs and three full
slabs of baby backs. Lots of fixins came with it. Mac & Cheese, Corn on the Cob, Collards and Mashed
Taters came pipin hot. Cornbread, Biscuits were right up my alley. The BBQ sauce was out of sight
and went great with the Coors light. We sent out for another case and enjoyed the night until 2 in the
mornin. Went home, got it together with Scarlet. One day I.m gonna head over to Jake's BBQ and
meet the boss. I hear he's really slick! and a great chef. MUSIC, BOOZE, RIBS AND GALS. Man oh
man can't wait till next week Saturday.
Horrible Delivery Service. We ordered for delivery on a Saturday night. The delivery took over an hour to get to us, our order was cold, and our order was incorrect -- all for ribs that were at best average. I would never order from this place again.
BRINGS BACK GREAT MEMORIES OF REAL HOME -TOWN COOKING!.
My wife Kate and I grew up in Kansas City, MO and we moved to a litte village in Brooklyn called
Carroll Gardens. It's a great neighberhood with newly renovated brownstones and with it the latest
market value condos and co-ops in town. When we first moved in we would pass by a restaurant
called JAKE'S BAR-B-Q but we never tried it because our parents said that there is no original
Kansas City style BAR-B-Q if it's not made in our home state. One day, our friends from work invited
us out and it just so happens that they took us to JAKE'S on Columbia St. I found it incredible that
this place in Brooklyn could prepare BAR-B-Q specialties just one block from my backyard.
My buddy Hal and his wife Nancy did the ordering-Baby Back Ribs, Short Ribs of Beef, Pulled Pork
and Pulled Chicken. BBQ baked beans, Collards, Red Potato Salad and Beef Chili all arrived like a
steady flow of traffic to our table. This food is excellent! My uncle Jimmy back home used to prepare
Sunday BBQ for our big family and we ate, drank and played all day. Lots of tall tales of BBQ
cooking, girlfriends and the like made us proud to grow up in BBQ country. I'm saying now-
"Uncle Jimmy, you've met your match! Come on down and swap some good stories with his Dad,
Jake Sr. Half-way through the meal we packed up the goods to save for tomorrow's dinner or a
late night fridge raid. The waitress gave us some free cornbread for our leftover BBQ. No more room
for dessert, the house special KEY LIME PIE. becaused we're stuffed. JAKE Jr.is running the show now
but he misses his Dad tending the smokehouse. Maybe my uncle Jimmy and Jake Jr. will bump into
one another way up there in BBQ heaven and send down some new recipes. Gotta go now and put
my BBQ stuff into the fridge. I love this place!
really good.
We recently moved to Prospect Heights in Brooklyn from Manhattan and our family
is accustomed to dining in the some of the finest restaurants in the world. With lots more
room in our new brownstone digs we?re enjoying the small town charm of this area. Since
my wife and I are both chefs in the city we are so busy and then too tired to cook. I heard
about this BBQ place that delivers all the way from Carroll Gardens to our place near
Park Slope and we decided to give it a try. We ordered Buffalo tenders and Catfish
Nuggets for our appetizers. For our main courses we had the Baby Back Ribs and the Brisket Melt with Swiss Cheese. The meal came with sweet corn bread and biscuits and
Four side orders. The mashed potatoes were great, the macaroni and cheese was loaded
With cheedar, the steamed spinach was fresh but the collard greens needed more spice.
Tangy BBQ sauce came in two nice size cups. Man I gotta tell ya. This food is kickin
Delicious! The food arrived hot and the big delivery guy was very friendly. The whole
meal for the two of us and our ten year old son cost about $50 and that?s real cheap
compared to the Big City! I checked out Jake?s BBQ while driving by on Columbia
St. on the way in to work. It looks like a real neat place to visit. Can?t wait to try out
the BBQ pizzas. With all the hype around about top notch barbeque eateries in
Manhattan, JAKES BBQ easily takes the cake. It?s the best kept secret in town!
Chefs KB & FT
Best Food, worst service in the Universe. Jake's people who answer the phone are either rude or incompetent. The order that is placed is NEVER right. I am waiting right now for an order I regret placing. This is my third order and the food is great (no matter what they happen to send) but don't order for delivery ever on Fridays, Saturdays, or any other day you would like to be treated nicely by the people taking the order. Maybe they feed the phone people angry pills and the rest stupid pills. I don't get it. This IS my last order.
Great Food, Great Price, Nice Atmosphere. I went with 3 friends for dinner. There was a busy coward of hungry people on a Saturday night but we were seated quickly. Everywhere I looked I saw large plates of ribs and people taking leftovers home, and I thought this food must be to good to be thrown away. We ordered chili, babyback ribs and chicken which were recommended by the pretty waitress. The BBQ babyback ribs had this great tasty and tangy sauce on it, the chili was hot and hearty, and the chicken was well seasoned and moist. The portions were big for the money and you get 2 sides with the meal..I wish I had known that they cater before my last party - I could have saved a fortune. The food was so much that we packed up the leftovers to make room for dessert. We split the chocolate cake and cheesecake which were both rich and sweet, and to top it off we got free honey roasted pecans after the meal. The pecans were the best I ever had!!! I would definitely come back for more.
BEST RIBS AROUND-FORGET THE ROMANCE.
I LIVE IN PARK SLOPE AND SINCE IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY, MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO GO
OUT FOR A NICE BBQ DINNER. WE HEARD ABOUT JAKE'S THROUGH OUR OFFICE AT METROTECH
AND WANTED TO BE OUR OWN JUDGE. WE DECIDED ON THE RIBS. I ORDERED A HALF-RACK OF
THE BABY BACK PORK RIBS AND MY HUBBY HAD THE BEEF SHORT RIBS. OUR WAITRESS WAS
NEW ON THE JOB AND IT TOOK A FEW TRIES TO GET THE ORDER RIGHT. FOR DRINKS, I ORDERED
WHITE WINE AND BIG BOY WANTED A DARK BEER TO GO WITH THE BEEF RIBS. I WAS KIND OF
DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LIQUOR LICENSE SO WE SHOT NEXT DOOR TO ALMA'S
AND GRABBED A FEW BOTTLES. FOR SIDES, WE ORDERED MAC & CHEESE, SPINACH, CHILI AND
BAKED BEANS. I WAS ON MY 2ND BOTTLE WHEN THE FOOD FINALLY ARRIVED PIPIN HOT. THE
AROMA WAS INCREDIBLE. THE TIPS OF THE RIBS WERE NICELY CHARRED AND THE MEAT WAS
VERY TENDER. BOBALU SCOFFED DOWN FIVE BEEF RIBS AND COULD'NT HANDLE ANOTHER
MORSEL. HIS MOUTH WAS COVERED IN BBQ SAUCE HE LOOKED PRETTY SATISFIED AND STUFFED.
WE SAVED ONE RIB FOR OUR LAB AT HOME AND TOOK HOME THE BONES. ALL THE SIDES WERE
DEMOLISHED AND JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY BIRTHDAY CAKE. THE WAITRESS BOUGHT A
CANDLE AND WISHED ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHICH MADE ME FEEL REAL SPECIAL THAT NIGHT.
SHE BROUGHT OVER THESE DARK AND SWEET PECANS COMPLIMENARY OF THE HOUSE AND
THEY WERE REALLY GOOD. JAKE'S BBQ HAS GREAT FOOD BUT'S IT NOT A ROMANTIC SPOT AT ALL.
IT SEEMS THEY HAVE QUITE AN OUTGOING BUSINESS AND IT GETS KIND OF NOISY. I DIDN'T MIND
NOR DID HUBBY. HE'S A COP AND SEES A LOT. ON THE WAY OUT HE SAID IT'S A PRETTY GOOD JOINT WHICH SURPRISED ME BECAUSE HE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THE JOB. WE WERE ANXIOUS
TO GET BACK TO THE SLOPE AND REALLY CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY! MY ONLY THOUGHT NOW WAS
CAN THE SMALL BLUE PILL REALLY WORK WITH ALL OF JAKE'S RIBS IN OUR BELLIES? WHEN
ALL WAS SAID AND DONE WE BOTH SMILED AND HOPED TO GO BACK TO JAKE'S AND DO IT ALL OVER
AGAIN. SWEET SUSIE.
Order delivery - atmosphere is unappetizing.
First off, one gets heaps of food for the price, so if you like mediocre BBQ and plenty of it, this is your place. But, you'd be best ordering delivery, as the atmosphere is less palatable.
There were condiments and place settings piled up on a table in the middle of the restaurant. There was a woman eating watermelon and manning the phone at a table near the cash register counter, which made the table in public look like a makeshift office. Across from her, in a table across the restaurant, were two delivery guys counting $20's, as they sat near their delivery bags.
The kitchen is in view, and I knew we were in for a treat when a majority of the food went in an out a series of about three microwaves. Microwaves are not a good sign if you are looking for the freshest food.
The food was lukewarm. I struggled with the pork ribs a bit, and they certainly were not ?falling off the bone?.
The restroom was that of a ?developing nation.? It was dilapidated and dirty. Not that I needed to eat in there, but visiting a clean bathroom to wash BBQ sauce of one?s hands is inevitably part of the overall BBQ dining experience.
Again, we brought plenty of food home with us. We?ll just have to be creative in incorporating the leftovers into something more exciting that the food as it was served.
Editorial Review. Kansas City-style BBQ hits the Big Apple with baby back ribs, burgers and fresh baked cornbread.
Great delivery or takeout. We order delivery form here quite often. Hands down, the best ribs in the area. Love the sides too. And reasonably priced for what you get. Our only complaint is that there's always something wrong with our order. Nothing major -- mabe a missing side... or no ketchup... things like that. If it would tighten up on the details, this place would be perfect.
