Tips for Antonio's Pizzeria

Great Take-Out.
Antonio's is everything that a traditional New York pizzeria should be. We've been getting our pizzas delivered from them for years. The pies always arrive hot. The crust is crisp and flavorful, with quality cheese, and a wide assortment of toppings is available. Their family-style pastas are also quite good, and you can get great meatballs, sausage, etc. with them. There are also the usual heroes, calzones, etc., along with salads and antipasti. This is not some pretentiously upscale "artisanal" pizza of the kind that has become so trendy. It's just great old-school Italian-American pizza like you'd get on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx or Mulberry Street in Little Italy. I'm glad they're right here in my neighborhood.

Peerless Pizza.
Weirdly, this unprepossessing little place right by the D/Q stop on Seventh Avenue has some of the best pizza in the city. It's not much to look at, but some pizza genius must lurk within, and he's got a superb line in calzones, too. I went in here on a whim, originally, but after I became a convert, I discovered other Slopers knew about this pizza temple, too--though I've never heard anyone mention it outside Brooklyn. But hey, Brooklyn knows pizza.
