Brooklyn >Sally's West Indian Restaurant
NEVER AGAIN ! Terrible food and even worst service....
Generally, I wouldn’t write reviews for restaurants because sometimes when expectations are not met, there are many reasons as to why. However, I do feel compelled to do so as –
1). A warning to other patrons. 2). A critical heads-up to the management of this establishment.
This past Mother’s Day I decided to patronize this restaurant with my wife, two children, sister in-law and cousin in-law, and although it was a bit crowded, it didn’t bother us too much. After all it was Mother’s Day. We were seated relatively quickly, but we noticed that the table was a bit dirty and thought that in an attempt to turn around the tables swiftly; this one was missed as a result. We waited for approximately 20 minutes, then after calling out to an employee, water was served. However, the day quickly depreciated from there. The water glasses were dirty, and the water itself was dirty with “stuff” floating in it. My wife then notified the waitress of this issue and a floor manager offered to assist with washing the glasses and refill them with water.
About 25 minutes later, we were served salad that was “old and soggy”, but to their credit the bread seemed to be freshly baked. I chose not to eat the salad, but other members of my party tried it and were quickly repelled by the texture and taste, as it was much worse than it appeared. My wife was served her fish shortly thereafter, so was my cousin in-law; however without the rice that she ordered. My son waited for 20 additional minutes before he was served a dish that he did not order. Meanwhile, my cousin in-law is “still” waiting for her rice and peas; me, my son, sister in-law waiting to be served.
We demanded to speak to a manager and were told that the waitress was a new employee. I explained that the service was unacceptable and that we were CT residents patronizing their restaurant. The main manager never even acknowledge our disappointment, he looked over a few times, but didn’t come over to find out what the issues were. We then had to wait an additional 25 minutes, before I demanded my check and that was yet another long wait and was incorrectly calculated.
Two years ago, we vowed never again to patronize this restaurant because of the "old jerk chicken" , but though that 2 years later their processes would change; we were so WRONG. The quality of the food is awful and the service continues to degrade even further.
Luckily, we knew of FOOTPRINTS, and though we waited a bit. They were professional, courteous and keep us informed of our wait status until we were seated. Thank goodness for FOOTPRINTS or this day could have ended much worse. Sally’s management should visit FOOTPRINTS or Gabrielle’s (City Island) to note what “Class” is and how patrons should be treated.
good food better a few yrs ago, horrible!service!. i love there food been eating there for yrs but the service is rude horrible! i wonder if there's even a manager bc it seems the employees do wat they want .ordering over the phone is next to impossible n catering for a lunch is not worth it.sally would b sadly disappointed.
Great Food, Terrible Service. When my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant even though it was empty; it took a while before someone came and to greet us. The "host" came over and without ever say a word and seated us. The waiter comes over a few minutes later and mumbles something, i suppose asking us what our order was and mumbled everthing else he said. He never said your welcome or thankyou. After the food was brought out. He came to check on us once. Didnt return until he brought out the bill. The food was great but the service was very bad. The waiter recieved a small tip soley on the strength of the quality of the food. Resturant could be sooo much better if the service improved.
Never go here.
Where do I start about the horrendous service at this local Brooklyn estabilishment. I recently visited Sally's for a retirement party for my girlfriend's dad. We made reservations for a party of 20 for 7pm but weren't seated until 8pm. The staff moved us to another table in the other dining hall to accomodate us however, they never cleaned up the table behind us from the last group. We sat there the entire time staring into the leftover and uneaten plates of the previous visitors througout our lackluster meal.
The waiter took our order at 8:30pm but food didn't arrive until one hour later. After eating our salads, the table was never cleared of salad bowls and we ended up placing them on the untidy, uncleared table behind us. The children's meals finally appeared at 9:30pm followed my 3 adult meals. All the while the waiter never refilled our glasses with water and 90% of our tparty sat wating with unused utensils in front of them. Ten o'clock arrives and now only 70% of us have eaten. The guest of honor; my girlfirend's dad sat there with no food until 10:15pm.
Unsatisfied I asked to speak to the manager and ask that we be duly compensated for the terrible service but she insisted that service was speedy and efficient. She told me that she went to Red Lobster last week and had to wait 45 minutes to get seated so I shouldn't be offended by her estabilishment's long wait and bad service. I looked at her like she was crazy and insisted that she compensate us for the anemic service and long wait period. The manager started making excuses about how we took a long time to order and how we should be greatful we were even seated in their restaurant (huh? we made reservations).
My overall experience at Sally's was not Irie at all. Never go here. Don't think about going to any of their locations because you'll get the same inhospitable service. I don't know how they stay in business. Avoid this place at all cost.
